Fun fact: in the book, *Frankenstein*, the Creature actually names himself Adam. Curiously, Victor Mordenheim attempted to raise his creation as a son, and is thus a LESS unpleasant individual than Viktor Frankenstein, who abandoned his.

Not quite: Mordenheim didn't love his wife that much (despite attaching her to the ICU that prolongs her agony and prevents her from dying), he creating Adam was more of a way to show off his talent. All he wants is to be a genius and be recognized as such. Frankenstein was just an idiot who mixed science and alchemy and was too scared and immature to deal with the consequences (He made his creature while he was a student).

@@dagaspadini All true. Though to discount Frankenstein as merely such is to dicount how fascinatingly narcissistic he really is. Either way, in my mind, Mordenheim made an attempt to take responsibily, feeble though it was. Frankenstein never did. In my book, thak makes Mordenheim a less unpleasant individual.

6:20 The irony in that picture is, most versions of Mr. Freeze have succeeded in reviving poor Nora, often at the cost of his own life. Unlike Mordenheim, he has SOME scruples.

It's fun especially being a horror fan and having the different domains so you get all the types of classic horror films, but u definitely need a good dm and group to really pull off the horror feel, first time I played it of course it was in October, played by candlelight, and had classic horror film soundtracks playing faintly in the background, fire roaring in the fireplace it was a blast with a few jump scares

Mordenheim and his Monster and Azalin the Lich were always my favorite Dark Lords. All the Dark Lords had fitting curses, but the tragic spin on the Frankenstein tale and the bitter irony of a lich that can't learn new magic always struck a chord with me. Could you do a feature on the meddling lich Azalin?

I’ve always wanted to do a full Ravenloft campaign where the party is in a new domain every few levels, and in all my research Lamordia has been my favourite. I may just be a sucker for a Frankenstein story though. Happy to hear that it’s being reimagined, seems super interesting!

Fun to watch! Please describe the local populace. Lamordia has a Northern Germany vibe, the part that reaches into the icy Baltic Sea. The major town(s) are seaside hubs and they are poor. And it borders 3 other domains: Falkovinia, ruled by a ruthless warlord who runs endless war campaigns in his Slavic-like realm; Dementlieu, whose darklord employs mind control and rules over a French Renaissance-like domain; and of course the immense and diverse realm of Darkon, with the incredibly powerful lich Azlin as its lord (Azlin's the sort of powerful entity that communes between other D&D settings like the Forgotten Realms or Dark Sun despite his imprisonment, and is an epic foe that can easily slay high-level adventurers). All darklords are evil. Some are prominent and some are hidden and if adventurers get too full of themselves, they have a good chance of attracting their attention.

interestingly, in the new Ravenloft 5e book, this story has been changed. Viktra Mordenheim is the new dark lord of the domain, the monster she created in trying to keep her love alive the bieng that constantly torments her. It isn't explicitly stated, but i like to think that she's Victor's daughter, and she used part of Adam to create her monster. a sort of "The more things change, the more they stay the same" take on the shift in power and evolution of Lamordia

I usually just ignore the Viktra retcon and use the old lore, BUT advance the timeline and use almost everything else from the 5e book since the new tech and plot hooks work great and don't really contrardict old lore. I have no idea why WotC decided to retcon Victor Mordenheim and Adam, they have a ton of lore and books stretchibg from the 1980s and all the way up until the release of the 5e book and all of it (for the most part) stayed consistant.

Hey... Thank you for showcasing Ravenloft. I played it in 2e. Awesome setting. Hard to pull off. Especially with horror movies like Saw, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. As far as the demiplane of dread, I feel that the publishers could have added more lands to the core. The way I understood it, lands appeared separated by the mists. When Barovia was first brought into Ravenloft, it was alone. As other domains came to the core, they would appear at the edge of Barovia and the people would find the land. It was a strange setting.

Hey I like your videos but U surprised me and I needed to look twice because U used a Map I once made a long while ago that I posted on Reddit (1.52). Somehow I feel proud it as it was my first and only map I made and that somehow made me happy. I changed it a bit a while ago but I am happy I found it in your video as the intend of it was to be shared with others. So it made me very happy/proud it found some use. @@Jorphdan It really made my day also for it to be confused with an official map feels nice. I hope more ppl will enjoy it and find use for it even if Ravenloft will look different. Also have newer version with the Lakes cleaned up a bit and a slight color change (to make it less bright) I might post it on reddit soon if you are interested. @@benjrc3611 I’ve read a huge list of Forgotten Realms novels. My favourite is Black Wolf, I can’t remember the author but it’s a good book. Ed Greenwood’s novels are pretty good too. Another one that’s great is called “The City of Spenders”.

If you are really gonna do domain videos I really really recommend finding the Gazetteers from 3rd edition, cause they really go into depth about all the Core domains. Also it looks like the whole Core concept is going to be wiped away by the new version of the setting, which in my mind is sad and that each domain will be it's literal own island of terror. So you might just want to wait for the new setting to come out.

oh man!! We tried it once with my patrons, they all finished the book except me lol. I was just too busy. I need to learn to consume audio books while I work. Round 2 can happen! I'll maybe start with some short stories :)

@@Jorphdan I consume audio books daily almost. Got to where with my newborn and keeping up my relationship that audio was the easiest way to do what I loved. Still working through everything audible has as far as Forgotten Realms but ive only got a few books left. I always speed it up to about 1.35×. I've gone back and listened to them several times.

There's so much I love about this domain: Victor Mordenheim being a mix between Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Freeze, the population being terrorized by grotesque experimentations gone awry, and let's not forget that it's dread lord is FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER itself! I can already see a campaign inspired by Bride of Frankenstein, where Adam urges Mordenheim to create him a child-bearing wife. Throughout the entire campaign, the adventurers see the town women scared to leave their houses at night, and lock their doors quickly before the sun sets. Mordenheim himself tries to create such a creature, but these brides either fight against Adam, run away from Adam, or simply cannot bear children and are discarded. At the end, Adam becomes impatient and might try to kidnap one of the PCs (if one of them is female) or take Mordenheim's comatose wife as his own. There's a climactic battle where the PCs battle against the dreadlord in a church (because Adam needs an officiant to make it official), and just as they deal the final blow, the church collapses (or something) Mordenheim might thank the PCs if they recover her body, he might mourn if they couldn't. What's important is that Mordenheim is alive, albeit very weak (because of the pain), and that also means that Adam must have survived as well

I'm a bit confused... Are they adjusting the entirety of the lore and Shadowfell to change everything to have the Domains of Dread to be associated with Ravenloft instead? As far as I understand it and as it stands now in 5e, Domains of Dread are just demiplanes in the Shadowfell, serving more as prisons to trap their inhabitants in place as sustenance for the Dark Powers. They are all their own thing and quite separate from one another. One of those demiplanes in the Valley of Barovia, containing the Castle of Ravenloft and it's mists. So is this new book undoing all of that and linking them all together and making them just "Ravenloft" settings now?

I referenced the old AD&D book, so I was going off of that lore. I think "the Core" is gone in 4e; but we won't know what 5e brings until the new book comes out! Still the domains are fun to explore and give a glimpse into the design changes for Ravenloft throughout the years.

If i would update lamordia. I would base it off the actual book rather then the motion picture. Not alot of people are familiar with the book so they wont catch on its frankensteins monster so fast. Mordenhiem would be obsessed with immortality and creating the perfect being from science. Adam would be his tormentor, doing evil things to punish an evil man. Have the players team up with mordenhiem, learning what horrible things he did to create his perfect being Adam..attempting to make the sympathetic with mordenhiem first and then reveal Adam is evil and a monster but Mordenhiem is just as bad if not worse and he deserves his torment.

Warning: Don't play this adventure with min/max players. They will rip every monster apart, including the dark lord Adam. Instead just play the Necropolis adventure, let then have fun with undead powers, min/maxer will love that.

DM'ing in Lamordia, I modified a little people's point of view about religion a little: Lamordia's aristocracy, so well studied as they (think they) are, thinks religion is a waste of time and mocks the common folk because of their religiosity (mainly Church o Ezra).

Yeah, I'm confused by this as well. Domains of Dread are a part of the Shadowfell. One of which is the Valley of Barovia, containing the Castle Ravenloft. It sounds to me like this is not a Ravenloft book, but a Shadowfell book, focusing on the Domains of Dread and how to make a horror themed campaign around these ideas. And they are using the name Ravenloft to conflate it all together and sell more books.

So I hate to say it but, I don't like the sponsor or at least the cursive they use to advertise themselves. I remember learning cursive back in grade school and that skill has waned enough for me to squint at the sponsors name trying to figure out what it says, rather than being engaged and wanting to try their product. no time sorry! Working overtime at my muggle job. Toddler needs attention and I enjoy being a dad. Lots of reading to do before I can write a script. The end of the day it might have to be my face (which makes editing quicker) or no video.
