I love lamp wick bindings. I was introduced to them by Garret Conover. He details this in his book. Great video and explanation by you! Have fun in the snow!
Another great vid, Dan. I have leather "harness" style bindings with metal buckles on my traditional shoes, but great knowledge to put in the toolbox in case one ever goes kaput on the trail. Thanks fir sharing!!
Good info on the snowshoe rig Dan. I love your videos and your good simple useful frugal information you always provide. Keep up the great work and stay warm tracking out in the snow!
And yet another great tip. Never thought about bindings like that, I have had several commercial binding blow outs in the past and had to make due with drag rope. It worked but, not very well. Thanks Dan……Ed
You will be happy with a pair of Mukluks. Which company are you looking at, Steger? Lamp wick is likely better than nylon webbing, both work. You will get used to the bindings and the ease of in and out. I do find sometimes this type of binding doesn't hold as fast as a leather or modern binding, though.
Lure of the North look like very nice boots. I've been using a pair from Steger Mukluks. It doesn't look like the L of the N have rubber soles, Steger does. I know I frequently hit wet areas, from spots in the drive way to slushy salt soaked parking lots at the grocery store or even just around the camp fire where the snow has melted. Traditionally the mukluk was used in very cold areas and there was less chance of encountering slush. Rubber soles are important, and open their use up to more than just the back country on cold days. www.mukluks.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiAy4bTBRAvEiwAFtatHGu_FKDPfqkq41Vb4YLJwHjmw7fJw1WSVcG76LjKMRU7h0HLycjiXRoCe4kQAvD_BwE
Very cool idea. Was just looking online for replacement bindings and yikes!! This is such an smart way to improvise. How are they holding up since this video was uploaded a while ago?
