Lovely bead as always Robin. Its so nice to see someone using my fave colour - green! I cant believe you have the same anxieties the rest of us have when you consistantly produce such nice work. This technique was used a lot by Sarah Hornik and your beads are every bit as good as hers, so you have nothing to worry about. A decent glass artist ( I am talking about you Robin😉) has good instincts as to how the bead will turn out - even if its not visible in the flame. The "gouges" as you call them ( a bit harsh lol!), are perfectly normal. Flame polishing soon gets rid of the valleys though. Personally, I am a bit of a freak and like my beads really smooth, any sign of chill marks or anything I have done to make the design below the surface and i just have to polish it out. I rarely use tools other than marvers or Pushy, Pokey, Proddy Tools for that reason. I have a shelf of presses, hardly used and gathering lots of dust. Once a blue moon i use a crunch, but thats about it. Robin, I have a challenge for you should you wish to take it?.... Make a similar bead to the point before raking. Then, instead of raking, use heat control and gravity to get the same look.... Just a comment to other beadmakers reading this: Everyone struggles with stringer control - until it falls into place. A bead like this gives you the opportunity to play with stringer, as it doesnt matter if its not perfect. I'm not brilliant with stringer control, though i manage - but that doesnt really matter to me as my beads are quite organic generally. I learned stringer control using a base bead and stringer of the same colour. When i made a mess i just melted the stringer flat and started again - then turned the bead into something pretty at the end!

Hello Beady! 🌹✨✨ Thanks so much for your message and comments! 🤗 I am big on flame polishing as well…love that smooth surface! And it came in very handy for these beads. I have about 15 bead presses and only use 2 of them….the rest are collecting dust 😂. I like your challenge and will try to give it a go this weekend! And I’m so glad you mentioned stringer control…practicing with the same color as the base bead is a brilliant idea. ✨🌹🌹 🌟Thanks again so much for sharing with us all, Beadysam! Cheers to you- Robin 🌈🙏🏽✨✨✨

Fun bead. Have you tried pulling a long, like 1", fine point on a clear rod and using that as your pick. Took a class and the instructor showed that method. Wish I could remember her name. Maybe Kim Fields. Anyway, it's such a fine tip so doesn't grab as much glass. Really good for delicate pulls. Stay cool.

Hi Robin, I’m back from the US and boro-world, would love to say I made great things at the torch but that’s a while off! Corning was amazing, though I’m feeling a little guilty saying I’m looking forward to getting back to beads and soft glass! Can’t wait to catch up on your wonderful videos for some ideas and inspiration 😊

Hi Dan! 🤗🌹 I’m so happy to hear that you’re back safe and had a great time! Yes…boro is sooo different from soft glass…it’s like starting all over again for me! 😂 Corning is such an amazing resource for all glass arts and I enjoyed their collection…and the store has a ton of beautiful items. I hope you were able to check it all out. ✨🌹Great to hear from you!! Cheers- Robin 🌈👋🏽✨

I’m so proud of you Robin for using the pick to rake because I know how much you hate doing that technique. But look how beautiful it came out my darling. You can still make a stunning bead even with a technique you hate doing. How are you anyway? How are you coping with the heat and the same with Patrick also say hello to him for me please. I hope you’re coping ok. I myself I’m struggling quite a bit health wise I’m near enough house bound due to my health it’s that bad and at times I’m struggling to sit for long periods but I fight through it when I have to and I will have to when I start recording videos for my socials which hopefully will be soon. I hope yours and Patrick’s health is good. Stay safe my friend and take care of yourself and stay hydrated in this heat ❤️ 🌹

Hi Kelly! 🌹✨ Thanks so much! I’m glad I finally decided to get my pick-practicing in! 😅 It is super hot here and it’s been so humid….ugg! I’m constantly looking for air conditioning to hide in. On the other hand, Patrick has been outside every day for the last couple of months working on the house, backyard studio area and garden….he is soooo tan! Just a few more months for the cooler weather to come back. I can’t wait! 🌟 Gosh…I am so sorry to hear that you are hurting…😞 do you have an assistant to help with anything? I hope you are able to at least get around a little bit without too much pain. I am excited to hear that you will be recording some videos soon! Sending good vibes your way my friend- Robin🌈🌹🌹🌹

@@scottwoodresearch I’m so extremely happy to that you got your pick out and practiced with it as your amazing with it as shown in your design of you bead. You should use your pick more often. Also congrats on the donation you got from the lovely person below this comment. Can I ask how you set it up on your page for people to donate to you? It also does not surprise me your looking for air con everywhere lol the heat is crazy all over the USA from what I’ve heard people say that in some places it is hitting the 120’s. Sadly in my health department I do not have much help, my friend will pop to the shop for me if she is going herself or coming past it but otherwise I do everything myself. I have my wheelchair but my ram is very heavy to get out and put up. Also I hate using my wheelchair through pride because of my age (I’m 38). I hope Patrick is enjoying getting his tan while doing the hard work of working on the house, garden and backyard studio. I’m hoping to record very soon when I can work out how to use one of the free recording programs that will stream to YT, Kick, FB & insta some of the recordings will be live streaming some will be pre-recorded videos and some will be shorts but it’s all jut going to take time. I’m going to order some faux white granite mats to film on top of with my beading mat on top of them but all this is just for my jewellery making for now asm I still do not have my LW equipment back yet as I have not raised the funds, I did put up a go fund me but so far it is not going novwhere. At the moment I’m waiting till my business is up and I need a business owner whom knows me to vouch for me for my ID for my legal documents or another professional so just sorting that out for now and i’m just waiting for someone to get back to me as long as my ex gave me the right email address about the looking at the documents and filling out an email for my ID. Stay hydrated hun and can you please tell Patrick said hi please but also I said for him to do the same and for him to also stay hydrated as well in this heat especially working outside. Say safe and well and look after yourself my friend ❤️ 🌹

Lovely patterns, Robin. The only problem I have with the tungsten pick is finding it. I've bought three so far and have lost them all in the shed. I expect I will find them when I remodel the torch corner. I'm sure there is a treasure trove of small tools hiding behind my work bench, unless the mice are taking them.
@scottwoodresearch
@scottwoodresearch Месяц назад
Hi Jirup! 😅🌹 I can just imagine the little mice taking your tools for themselves to use! 😂🙏🏽 I hope you can get back there and recover some of your tools! I have two tables pushed together for my set up and I’m constantly loosing glass rods where they meet. 😂 Hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Cheers my friend- Robin🌈✨🌹🌹

Good Morning Robin, I know you use a Hellcat, are you running it off of tank oxygen or do you use an oxy con? If so which one or ones do you use. I know you are always saying you have shaky hands, even yet I'm still pretty impressed with your dot and stringer placement dealing with your hands. As always thanks for all your videos

Hi Woodland! 🌹✨ I have 2 big-ass oxygen tanks that Patrick and I haul up the stairs to get filled once a month. It’s a pain but I prefer using tanks over the concentrators. I can regulate the pressure more and give it a boost if needed. A long time ago I had a Lynx that I ran off a concentrator but I wanted a bigger flame to work on larger pieces. 🌟 Thanks for asking! Hope you are having a wonderful week my friend!! 🤗✨ Cheers- Robin 🌈🙏🏽🌹🌹🌹
