This is a great review! I am using the gold nib on an Al Star. The gold nib is under appreciated and writes as well as nibs that cost significantly more. If you love Lamy, get yourself a gold nib. It’s a dream.
Great video thank you! I've been using Lamy FP's since I was in 2nd grade and I'm 60 now! I think (purely personal) the gold nib is a great writer, but honestly with the advance in metallurgy these days it really does make that much of a difference! Of course ecstatically it looks and feels great but as far as writing it does not make that much of a difference as you said, a little bouncier and I'm a leftie as well. On the other hand, I've used Pelican, Pilot, Sailor, Platinum Parker, and a few other brands and always, always come back to my holy grail Lamy. Now that the company is bought a Japanese firm we have to see if the legacy continues. Thank you for all you do! Cheers
Thank you for review and remarks on writing experience. I took me while to come to the same conclusion. Have two Z55 nibs for my Lamy dialog 3 - EF and OB. I am light handed guy and love the character of OB nib. OB nib, shading ink and good Tomoe River paper give me a lot of pleasure.
starts writing at 9:50 he does a great job explaining the nibs in the first couple minutes but just for anyone that wants to skip to the writing portions.
Exactly the kind of reviews I was looking for. Thanks for helping me let go of the desire of getting a Lamy EF 14k gold nib! Will save the money for getting a Japanese pens with gold nib for that nice EF nib I'm searching for.
Thanks for your review, I love the Lamy gold nibs. I'd love you see you review the imporium as it doesn't get much attention. It's a pen i've always had my eye on.
I bought a Scala on sale in glossy piano black which no one would buy because it shows fingerprints. The nib alone worth about $140 AUD alone. If you have a good pen yes it is worth it.
huh that lamy safari looks so cute, what color is it? I don't like safari because of their bad cap seal but that color is cute! also their caps get ink on the handle sometimes :|
Great review as always, I like that you take the time to focus on nibs (I also recall your review of the LH Z50 from a while back). I your book, I would qualify as a heavy-handed writer. In that light, do you have any thoughts to spare when comparing the Z50 with the PVD coated Z53?
Thank you very much! In your question, are you referring to the nib that comes on the Aion? I honestly can not remember, as I have reviewed the Aion quite a while ago, and I do not own it any longer. But you can watch my review of the Aion - I believe that I talk about this in the review.
1. Interesting. My CP1 with a steel B nib is extremely wet. Now I'm curious about the gold, it must be wetter than wet. 2. Have you tried the current LAMY gold nib, maybe called the Z56? It can be easily distinguished by the lack of a breather hole. Some reviewers find it inferior to the earlier Z55.
I believe the Imporium in the review comes with the Z57 - which is the black version of the Z56. If so, the reviewer did not appear to notice any difference 😀
As Gijsbert has supposed, the Imporium that I was showing appears to have the Z56 installed. Which I did not notice as I was looking across 3 or 4 different nibs. But mabye that is telling in itself. That I have not noticed any difference that would stand out enough for me to register it ;) .
