I heard Lana said in an interview she's not a good actress but based on this commercial, like all the cool little expressions she does and the way she is in her music videos and Tropico, it actually seems like she'd be really great in a movie...maybe some short artsy/art-noir films or something, maybe with a vintage/surreal theme like this :o)
That would never happen unless... (1) She first gets possessed by a demon. (2) She has lesbian sex at least once with a complete stranger in the movie (3) She has strange psychotic/hallucinitory experiences which reawakens her past feelings of guilt and is somehow the catalyst for her demise. (4) And of course David Lynch must direct it.
No she embodies the 60's. Not to mention covering a song that is indeed from the 60's [she's covering Bobby Vinton's version from 1963], she has her hair in a 60's beehive often, has the same makeup, references it in music, embodies it in her music videos... And she looks like a young Priscilla Presley.
***** Yeah, I noticed a lot of David Lynch(director of Blue Velvet) traits in this, too. Especially from stuff like Twin Peaks(Which is a show he did in the early 90's).
Theres a lot of symbolism in this, I think. Not like, bad symbolism. Symbolism about fame. The woman sitting at the typewriter symbolizes how the press is listening to every word that she says. The girls sitting on the couch are people to replace her if she messes up. The bedroom scene shows how she is neglecting the people that love her for her work. The hypnotism shows how the industry tries to make her how they want her to be. Just what I got out of it. ^-^ Favorite of all of her videos.
once I was listening to this song in the car with my grandfather and he said out loud, "Wow, this brings me back to my homecoming dance. I danced to this song with a girl named Betty Sue, wow... "
jacob I'm praying for a coven part 2 with her on it & she has some type of ice power & telekinesis & she could be a girl who love's lana del rey like misty loved stevie nicks & she could also play herself on the show to , that'll be everything
+onLYbyMoon stfu you douche bag youre just jealous you dont have a beautiful majestic voice. dont even deny it since how did you pop up in the comments of HER music video. yea thats what i thought... BYE BOO
i love how lana looks quite national anthem-esque in this video, she's dolled up with the pale colours and her hair is all "real big, beauty-queen style", in her own words :D
She wore blue velvet Bluer than velvet was the night Softer than satin was the light From the stars She wore blue velvet Bluer than velvet were her eyes Warmer than may her tender sighs Love was ours Ours a love I held tightly Feeling the rapture grow Like a flame burning brightly But when she left, gone was the glow of She wore blue velvet But in my heart there'll always be Precious and warm a memory, through the years And I still can see blue velvet through my tears
Hello youngsters. This is completely lifted from the 'in dreams' scene from David Lynch's Blue Velvet.... the very theme of which she is performing here.
This is actually inspired by David lynches film blue velvet ironically, if you’ve ever seen any of lynches films i.e blue velvet, lost highway, mulholland drive and twin peaks series you’ll see the references ❤️
Beautiful rendition, what a voice!! And the video is truly awesome for Lynch fans like myself..what a tribute to David Lynch! She packed it with Lynchesque imagery, from Twin Peaks and Blue Velvet and a few of her own ;-)
This is really a work of art in my opinion, I always love the spooky "Twin Peaks" vibe to some of her music, and the imagery in this one is fantastic, like the bubble burst when the man realizes she wasn't really singing.
I really want Lana to sing something for the Twin Peaks revival next year. I think that she and David Lynch would get along swimmingly, also this video is an obvious tribute to him.
It is. She’s admitted that the music video was inspired by his (David Lynch) films “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive”. There’s also some elements of Twin Peaks given the ominous sound engineering and lighting and use of sketchy figures.
7 years later follow up and just want to say as a David Lynch and Lana Del Rey stan, David was mad disrespectful for not inviting Lana to be one of the end credit acts for The Return.
Listening to Bobby Vinton's version led me to Lana's cover! My goodness she is AWESOME! I had never heard of her and this song definitely led me to her other videos! Her voice is AMAZING!!!!! God bless you tube for great finds like this!
"Oh Deus, como gostaria de ter produzido e dirigido Lana Del Rey cantando Blue Velvet nesse admirável e impagável clipe." Obrigado por toda essa maravilhosa interpretação minha linda e amada diva..Lana Del Rey. Ponto final. Falei.
She wore blue velvet...we all know this... but this one is a special. Amazing video. This is absolutely unique vid. Every element is great here. Thanks for this. Excellent. Great job.
I was obsessed with this commercial as a young, college art student when it first came out in 2012. So much has changed since then! This commercial is still just as iconic now as it was then, though. 🔥👍🏾💯
Damn! I love Lana and I think this is one of the most beautiful videos I’ve ever seen, the esthetic, the production, the song, everything is perfect, even if it’s too short
It’s like walking down the memory lane. Imagining myself to be old and grey when I’ve lost some of my loved ones, when I’m recalling my younger days coz nothing lasts forever. Everything happened in a blink of an eye.
H&M refused to give me the Lana Del Rey posters they had all over the store when this collection was out. I would have gladly waited until they no longer needed them but nope, they told me they had to rip them and throw them away. Such a waste of beautiful Lana Del Rey photos. So mad! 😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔💔
Naw that's just an excuse.. employees take them home. I went to Sunglass Hut when Gaga did her Versace campaign during Artpop, and I wanted the giant poster they had on display. The guy told me "we have to throw that one away, but you can have this smaller version one" 💀😭
Yeah, I get it, the sailor is handsome but... I just couldn't help saying that the young bearded man watching her is so much beautiful for me, Guess i'm weird, but whatever, he is handsomely tender... *-*
Your covers exposes others to Classics, just like Summer Wine by Nanca Sinatra, Doin Time By Sublime & The Other Woman by Nina Simone. Please don't stop & Bobby Vintont would be proud of this cover 🥰
Hey, don't you think it would be awesome if Lana appeared in new season of Twin Peaks? She could sing at the Roadhouse, and I bet she would really fit in!
Blue velvet is always my favourite movie.when i was a kid, i watch the movie over and over again. where is david lynch now? does he have any new movie?
Okay, maybe it's just me, but the original song Blue Velvet is in the David Lynch movie Blue Velvet, witch has a scene where one of the characters sings "In Dreams" and this video kind of reminds me of that scene, becouse someone turns off the music there too, and the singer (he isn't really singing, he is holding a lamp and pretends it's a microphone, while the radio is playing Roy Orbisons song) and Lana are both seem to have a frame of walls around them, here becouse the small stage is made that way, and in the movie, becouse the guy who pretends to be singing is standing right between two rooms (there isn't a door, just this big door-shaped hole-something in the wall). And also the audience in this video seems like they are some kind of a reference to the movie. Maybe I am wrong, is there anyone who thinks I'm not? Sorry for my English.
Spot on! The microphone is the same one that Dorothy uses in her stage scene too! And there's a bird (maybe on a robin!) on the record that is playing in Lana's video. And there's a guy watching intently as she sings and wipes his brow, just like Frank watches Dorothy!
Wow, I didn't see the bird, you have a great eye! :) And what about the other two scenes? The sailor sitting on the bed and the guy who's trying to hypnotize Lana. Do you think they have something to do with the movie or anything else? I don't see any references in them but someone who makes a H&M (!!!) commercial in such a clever way will not put random scenes in it without any meaning or function, I suppose.
