This song and video is a contrast between normality and being wild. Like she says in the song, "My Moon's in Leo, my Cancer is Sun", Cancer is a water sign and it's usually more contained and we see that side of her in the video during the day but Leo is rulled by fire and is more of a free spirit and we see that side of her during the nightime. Other examples of this contrast all throughout the song are "It's beautiful how this deep normality settles down over me" and in the next stanza saying "I'm in the wind, I'm in the water/nobody's son, nobody's daughter"
Every frame of this music video is like a wallpaper material. Peak Lana witchy aesthetics. For me the song is definitely a grower. It is ethereal and calming but still eerie. React to White Dress next, people claim it as her career defining song.
The song is about everyday life, not persuing anymore that old Hollywood lifestyle (in the same album she has a song where she says she wants to escape LA). The video is inspired by a book by Clarissa Pinkola Estès, called "Women who run with the wolves" where she explores the archetype of the wild woman. The video is all about duality and contrast. I'd suggest Tropico next!!!
It's about the woman that we are in our daily basis but also that wild or freak side that we have on the inside that we don't usually show to everybody and she is telling that always came to the surface like in the night, associated with the moon because of the wolf
As people below say - it’s about duality. I always view the title as referring to two elements of the US - Chemtrails - the conspiracy element representing the low brow - and Country club - the rich high brow part of society.
I love diving deep into the lyrics and both: finding out what the author had in mind and how I read it, how does it apply to my life. About my interpretation: I think it's about the inner conflict the protagonist has, from one side she strives for family and safe love, from the other side she's afraid of loosing her wildness and freedom, she's trying to find normality as something that'll bring her fulfillment, she sees this as the only way to this peaceful lovelife so she's lying to herself that normal activities can be enough for her, but she deep down knows it's not, that's why we have those declarations(abt still being wild and not being bored or unhappy), she doesn't want to convince us, she wants to convince herself. Also, Lana, before releasing this album, was showing a book "Women who run with the wolves", so I think we could find some possible interpretations in there. This inner dilemma from the song also reminds me of the phrase from her new album, from Blue Bannisters "You can't be a muse and be happy, too You can't blacken the pages with Russian poetry and be happy". /this interpretation path is strongly suggested by the video, in which you can see these two natures, there are also many visible references to the aforementioned book. I'll also throw in a few sentences about "my moon's in Leo, my Cancer is Sun"- Your Sun Sign describes the centre of your personality, what motivates and drives you, and who you are learning to become. The sun in Cancer is very much identified with the family, taking care of home life, it is also associated with the figure of the mother. Your Moon Sign describes your instinctive or emotional energies, your innate reactions. Whilst your Sun Sign describes qualities you are learning to develop and become, the Moon in Leo describes who you already are. On an instinctive level, you are likely to feel strong emotions. There is often a passionate intensity that needs to be expressed. You will always feel more energized when your natural spontaneity and exuberance can be expressed. I'm still thinking about how to properly interpret "chemtrails", and this is one of my ideas: the proponents of "chemtrails" became more active during the pandemic, spreading their ideas about what we're actually poisoned with🙃. Lana released this single in January 2021, which is in a middle of pandemia. I see Chemtrails simply as a symbol of danger, a specter of anxiety, something that even these wealthy country club members have no control over. I think Lana sees a certain inappropriateness that she's a member of this country club, where it's relatively safe, people swimming in diamonds in chlorinated water "playing it cool", and outside the club it's a danger that her eponymous "Chemtrails" remind us of. Maybe this club environment is where she ran away with her lover ("I'm on the run with you, my sweet love") looking for safety, wanting to rest from the worries of the world, but being among these spheres feels not quite right, I feel like she's putting on a mask (pretending to be as other members of the country club, but also in the video she puts on a mask 😅) and, as I wrote earlier, she wants to convince everyone, especially herself, that there's nothing wrong with it. I can’t resist the association that white picket (fences) chemtrails is a symbol of a fence, bars, prison. That she's still "wild" at heart, but running away and looking for a sense of security, she's locked in this weird, isolated, idealized place that is the Country Club, but these "Chemtrails" and her inner nature don't let her enjoy it and she doesn't feel like she belongs there.
one of her most beautiful and well produced music video! the director is called BRTHR, the same director of the music videos: Rare by Selena Gomez, Party Monster by The Weeknd, Shinigami Eyes by Grimes, etc.
Ngl I’ve listened to this track literally hundreds of times and I now realize I’m just as confused as you are as to what this video is about, lmao. Amazing video as always, dude!! Would you do White Dress or Venice Bitch sometime?
It's kind of about the duality of life. She can be wild she can be free and she can do all that within the confines of a normal life because being wild and Free isn't something weird or different it's something that fits perfectly into a normal life. She's not unhinged she's not bored she's not unhappy she's just normal. Also the whole album had a lot of reflection on her sister and her female friends so that might be in part where the wolf imagery comes from. Wolves generally moving packs
Love ur Lana clips! U add an interesting addition to all the other ones out there. I didn’t know Lana worked as a model for H&M-but a funny story here. I was going to ask u to react to The Strangest Game by Miynt. I believe this is Fleurie’s band; she is featured in NF Mansion. Anyways when I was looking through the comments on The Strangest Game everyone was at an H&M store at locations all over-hearing it all at the same time asking who is this…this is so cool! Lol…please. Thanks
