I think I have listened to the Born To Die album more than any other album in my life. It's a whole different experience to listen to her albums straight through as opposed to listening to songs out of order online, it is for me anyway. Every one of her albums is an experience so if you haven't listened to any of them straight through and have been jumping around, I recommend you give it a try. You can see how much she grows from album to album. She is truly an amazing artist.

I've always taken it to be that the helicopter represents the press hounding/misrepresenting her and it was intentional that the gun came out of the guitar case - the guitar case represents her music, and she is 'shooting' down the criticism/misrepresentation/eg with the 'gun' which is her music symbolised by the guitar case

This was the first Lana’s song I ever listened to seven yrs ago when I was like eight bc one my teachers suddenly started explaining my class the lore ab why Lana’s artistic name is Lana del Rey and then she played this videoclip, it was the new song at the time; so my first memory of Lana is her making a paparazzi helicopter explode. Now I’m fifteen and a while ago I started listening to her music and I’m in love with it; today I remembered this song and I’m thinking ab how I hope my teacher is doing well bc she was so pretty with copper long hair and an angelical voice when she decided that she didn’t give a fuck and played this song ab Lana getting high on the beach and killing paparazzis to eight y/o kids, in retrospective she was a pretty iconic woman, thank you Miss Evelyn

The first three minutes of the video are meant to be interpreted as this: Lana is walking around her house, acting unbothered by the Paparazzi helicopter that is circling her estate. At 2:18 she even goes as far as to entice the paparazzi by standing in the window and allowing her garments to blow around elegantly. This is Lana trying to lure the paparazzi in close enough to her home so that, in the final minute of the video, she has them in range so she can aim her machine gun at them and deal with the problem. In the grander scheme of things, this shows that Lana lives a very regular life. She doesn't do anything particularly interesting while at home. She just wants to relax, hence wanting to "get high by the beach" and not worry about the outside world. Unfortunately, even while keeping a low public profile, her privacy is constantly being invaded by invasive paparazzi and crazy fans. So Lana is giving us a glimpse here of what her life is really like: simple. That's what she wants. Simplicity. But sometimes, you must go to extreme measures to get what you want and Lana pokes fun at the "lack of privacy" situation by blowing up the paparazzi helicopter, almost hinting to the world not to fuck with her. She's secretly crazy. If ya'll view this video again with this interpretation in mind, it all might make more sense! Peace out.

this videoclip is just so well made. it has lanas low-cost homemade videotape aesthetic and vibe but then there is a freaking helicopter just behind lanas window. If that particular shot of her standing and then slowly dancing in front of a helicopter, wind blowing her hair and dress, was freezed, it would TOTALLY look like Edward Hoppers painting. This kind of American Dream cliché (but not in a bad way) is so fascinating to me. It really is something so unique about Lana that I can't stop be fascinated by.
