This song is heartbreakingly beautiful. Her vocals and the airy spaces in the production convey the devastation so well. It is jazzy but not hip-hop jazzy, it's more of sad jazz. Her vocals are also excellent. Can't go wrong with any honeymoon track. So good. This whole album is about the Honeymoon phase of the relationship being over and the realization that unfortunately, they are two completely different people who want different things in life. It is also about finding peace in solitude and finding yourself in that. It's all about Lana realizing that no man will complete her stand and that if they're not okay will her peculiar kind of love, then they are not the right person for her. After she broke up with her Italian boyfriend Francesco Carrozzini she wrote this album hence the Italian references. She was visiting Italy quite often at the time.
About de song it's a homage to David Bowie,Terrence was his brother who died, and when his brother died he was kinda lost,it was a lot to him. So in this song she sings in the p.o.v of David Bowie, about how he was feeling when his brother died.
there's something disney sounding about the verses. someone said "Bowie had a brother named Terrence who suffered from schizophrenia. He was permanently institutionalized, although he went on to live many years he very much lost him while he was still alive. Lana's former fiancee Barry also suffers from schizophrenia. A schizophrenic experiencing deep disassociation may refer to themselves in the 2nd or 3rd person, for example by saying 'Terrence loves you' instead of I love you." the major tom line feels like confirmation
Like how, how you don't get jazzy vibes from it? What's jazz for you? It's totally jazzy. And I'm getting lost on this song every f time. Such a masterpiece
ive always thought the song was written from the perspective of david bowie after he lost his brother terry to suicide. terry had a lot of problems within in life and he and david were supposedly very very close. it obv has influence from her own life as well making it more relatable but at its core I think its her writing from david post the loss of terry
