I wonder what Kathleen’s life was like 74 years ago as she read her new book? Did she have a cozy reading corner? How many more hands held that book before you? I could spend more time pondering the history of the book than reading the book itself! Thank you for the lovely walks there while the heat here is keeping me indoors

I enjoyed a wonderful church service this morning …. Chatted with several delightful friends…. Lunch…. Mowed grass…. And picked ten pounds of fresh figs, which will be processed tomorrow. While eating a quiet dinner on my back porch, I’m vicariously ‘vacationing’ in England with Ali and family. Can feel myself relax as I take in all the beautiful scenes, especially the stone buildings and narrow streets. Once again, MANY Thanks. Your vlogs are gifts to your viewers.

What a wonderful surprise! I've been missing the travels around Lancashire. I too love finding a second hand bookstore on my travels. In the US our pints are 16 oz, and your pints are called an imperial pint and is 20 oz. So Can does get less beer when he orders a pint in America. I know nothing about metric measurements although all our packaging now displays it we still are a pound, ounces, pint, quart, and gallon country!

book store look like Jane Addams bookstore in Champaign IL, having a pang as drove by it on a mission. Regret not stopping now. Love all the stone work and crenellations. Having major bath envy that you have such luxury even on trips. Showers are the norm in US

Door envy made me chuckle 💛 M & H Savage is my guess. I always thought a pint in Australia was 600mls (how bags of milk came) so I had to google it. In Australia, a pint of beer is generally 570ml, whereas in the UK it's 568ml. In the US, a pint is 16 fluid ounces, or 473ml. so apparently 500mls for the beer & 70mls of froth, milk was definitely 600mls Lol

When we lived in San Diego CA, there were so many bookshops just like the one you showed. Floor-to-ceiling books with barely enough room to turn around and a few cozy chairs here and there, plus they were two and sometimes three stories high.📚

Ah Ali, loved this, you are my Happy Place !!😁 Gosh that book shop is wonderful but there were so many books I think I would be overwhelmed where to look 🙃. I chuckled a lot during this, but especially when you went on your walk , grappling with branches and brambles and wearing jeans “because I’m a fool! “ 🤣 Suze. 😽

Love seeing the sights with you and all the treasures you've come across. I have that same book, mine is published in the US in 1938. It has a french inscription from a sister to her brother dated 1954. Feels odd to have a book published way before my parents were born. I've had this book in my possession for 30 odd years. I won't part with it even tho I haven't read it, yet!! By the way, my great-grandparents were from Oldham, Lancashire. I think it's now part of Manchester, correct me if I'm wrong.

Forgot to mention - Rebecca I have read 3 times since my Mom introduced it to me, many years ago! I also read a sequel to it, I don't think by the same author! And Wind in the Willows, my favorite!

Was the inscription M & L Savage? I think Rebecca was one of the first grown up books I read when I was younger. I reread it and Jane Eyre every few years. The bookshop was amazing!!!

One minute you are stood getting a cuppa at Newbury race course and next thing you are in Kirby Lonsdale, it is a lovely bit off the world, did Dan go into the brewery as noticed you walked pass on the way to the sweetie shop, they do have good beer in the north and love a Booths visit. I make my partner a beer advent each year so he is always excited when I say I am off to yarndale or Harrogate shows

There is something so special about a bookstore visit while on vacation/holiday! It looked like so much fun in that marvelous bookstore. Fabulous - we lived in the Isle of Man for many years and the book shop was a regular stop on the way to the ferry. Kirby Lonsdale is also a favourite place of ours. So pleased you have all enjoyed your jolly. X

So glad you liked Morecambe! We spend a little time there when we arrive early to get the ferry at Heysham to get us back home to the Isle of Man! We usually get a meal and a walk on the magnificent beach! Ashamed to say we have never found that bookshop - but that will change next visit! Eric’s statue is lit up late at night! That book shop looked fabulous, I could loose myself for hours mooching in there. Lovely scenery such a lovely place to visit, morcambe looks lovely as does the village. This vlog just proves that reading “books” is not going by the way. My grown up children still read but do listen to the audio versions too. The reading from their childhood is ingrained. It’s a very different vacation from your Scottish one where I first spotted you. You all seem to be having a good time. 🇨🇦

What a lovely vlog to come home to after we went away for the weekend! I share your frustration with that road on your walk. I went out a couple of months ago with the aim of walking to the next town over and there was one humpbacked bridge over the railway tracks that I just COULD NOT get over - constant trucks and high walls either side of it that I'd have been grated up against. So literally a mile away from my target I had to give up and walk home. Grrrr!

Loving your holiday. What an amazing bookshop - I'm with you with Rebecca and Daphne du Maurier books. I think the inscription is M & L Savage, how lovely to let your mind wander and think who Kathleen was to them, maybe neighbours or her employers 🤔 So good to meet you today in Newbury. Glad you enjoyed your stay in Lancashire. We’ve stayed in Kirkby Lonsdale twice this summer and like you just happened across Salt Pie Lane & the pretty view around the corner. The Sun Inn is the place to go if you visit KL again…great food & accommodation.
