Hungarian descent here from the northeast…more specifically Bethlehem, PA where Grandfather worked in the steel mill..cool to hear that other areas eat Kolache…for us it’s a holiday sweet treat but would love to try a savory version!

Been going to South Saskatchewan for almost 40 yrs from N. Il. Never had meals like this or great blues. Some of the best duck, goose and crane hunting ever. Also have seen whopping crane several times.
These guy are from my home town. I hunted bayou black and Gibson, La area since I was a kid. Buddies of mine still has leases down there! Great video, great food, great people, and BETTER Times!
I love this. I'm from the Fens in the UK, where my ancestors lived a similar, albeit harder, existence: Wildfowling, hunting, trapping birds and eels, peat and gault digging. Those things are gone, or all but gone now. A bygone age. I miss it, even though I was never alive to witness it.
I live in Maine There is a strong Acadian presence in that the Quebec culture is a predominant influence on the success and positive part of Maine’s culture One of my influences and mentors of fishing and hunting is a Guimod and taught me a lot He also helped me appreciate the culture of the Franco American culture I’d hang out with you guys any time and be proud to be there Hell I would buy the beer lol
I grew up a Greenwing, my father heavily in DU and a guide we hunted every season hard, I’m 28 now and still goin strong here in North Florida where we hunt the gulf, but in my youth around 11 we went for a few days to stay on a house boat with a friend when we got a great deal on a guided package he put up for the silent auction at the Florida state DU convention banquet dinner night. Those few days were really special killing bull canvasback, a drake mallard, some other species as well. We shot some nutria rats as well, just such a cool place. I have fond memories of the place when thousands of ducks could be seen flying, there were multiple house boats on the mouth of this river where it met the coast, I can’t remember the name, someone else might know exactly where I’m talking about. But the one I was on could hold several men and then there was at least several of them. Duck camp is a magical place, and the coast has the most. Personally I’m fine here though, we have plenty of ducks close at home and we got our own style here in North Florida and I’ll keep the waterfowlin tradition alive in the Big Bend baby, nature coast keepin it natural.
Love this series. Im from Bayou Cane. Its an outskirt of Houma. Grew up with my grandparents in the marsh and at the camp. The best memories in life. Hope this series continues.
Ive been thinking for years “man i wish meateater did at least one episode about south louisiana” and now theres a whole series based literally 5 minutes away from my house. This is awesome!
Thank you Steve for bringing your RU-vid channel full circle for me. My momma is full on Cajun. She passed during Katrina. Her final days were on a humble Cajun home on the bayou. Crawfish étouffée, turtle Fricassee, chicken and boudin gumbo. In the mid ‘70’s I remember paddling thru bayou Teche with my daddy and grandpa. Snakes dropping into the Pirogue from the trees. Catching crawfish and cat fish in the crawfish traps. My grandfather nailing the catfish to a tree and using pliers to skin them. Oh yea, the mosquitos; 4 would hold me down and 1 would suck my blood 🤣. I miss my Cajun my heritage. Btw, in New Iberia I have a cousin T-Boy! Laissez les bons temps rouler! Edit: I knew you was my Spirit Animal when you put that bottle of Makers Mark in ur cart 🥰. Btw, I got in-laws and outlaws that work at the Tabasco plant there on Avery Island that always hook this brother up when I’m in town 😃👍🏻.
The things that stick out to me most about hunting memories and nostalgia are the people, location, and camp... And what a cool ass camp these guys got! Amazing 👍
Been a fan of the Meat Eater for a lil while now...up until now Das Boat has been my favorite side project but this..THIS right here hits to my soul! All ya boys sound like my uncles from Shreveport and Galveston...this is special! Keep it up bruh!
I love it how his boys are giving him shit. Especially at the end where they were cracking on his ability to talk about a recipe and the camera just keeps rolling.
I love how local and hospitable this feels. I haven't visited Louisiana yet, but I feel like I've already been welcomed to the table and served amazing meal at someone's family home.
This video captures the experience of a long standing family/friends hunt incredibly well. Starting with preparations for camp, rubbing each other for missteps, and continuing into late night camp moments. It was incredibly real and "mostly" unedited, although, I know at least one sombitch got their ass peeled out of bed begrudgingly in the AM. Great job to all parties involved, very well done. Cheers boys.
I’m old enough to remember these episodes 5 months ago on Mossy Oak, anyone else? Would love to see this as a repeat show. Glad to see it getting come much better traction here! 🦆 💥 🥘
This intro gave me goosebumps, the cinematography and editing are fantastic. Great job. Think I have watched the intro now a hundred times and counting.
Native Americans (Choctaws and Chickasees) were also a huge influence on Cajun-Creole cuisine. They showed settlers how to use local native peppers that are prevalent in the cuisine.
The meat eater crew could make a documentary on curtains and oven cleaner and I’d watch it. What ever they touch turns to gold.Oh and his parents seem so cool. Nice people all round.
Did I see Okra, brussel sprouts, and white beans? I am NOT a fan of any of those things, and this still looked delicious... nice job JP and MeatEater crew!
Man oh man that video was awesome..... as a duck hunter that loves to cook and listen to tunes at the camp with my buddies....love it...made me laugh a few times as well
