Here’s is the second video release of my 2000 Land Rover discovery series II, now lifted 2” using terrafirma front coil springs, terrafirma shocks on all corners, and rear air spring spacers with new air springs. The transfer case has been modified to include an electronic centre diff lock for trickier scenarios.

Such a beast. A deadly combination of old school with solid axles and new school with a really responsive traction control.

If you combine it with Tru Trac differentials it's even crazier

What's cool about Land Rovers is shown here. Still on the 18 inch Hurricane wheels with some modest A/T tires and pretty much just as it came off the showroom floor leaving the mall parking lot and going up the hill.

Amazing what a discovery can tackle with little effort 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Quality video! Very impressive how it tackled those climbs with those tyres, after switching from grabbers to insa turbo tyres on my D2 the difference was immense, would love to see more!

I will be sure to upload more videos soon. We are at the tail end of the dry season where fires are a major risk. Many of the backcountry areas are gated. Once we get some rain, I’ll be sure to upload some good content

Yeah definitely great for those tires. I have 16 inch wheels on my desk go with 33 inch mud tires usually are down 20 lb and they go up that kind of stuff a little bit easier. Can't wait to get a rear Locker

Pretty nice to see a Disco off roading on some challenging obstacles (and with no annoying music). Keep it up.

Finally! A video with a good old V8 and not a Diesel! I had a 3 door Disco 1, with the 3.5 EFi and a manual gearbox. Highly capable right out the box, with a good set of tyres at adequate pressure. This video was awesome, by the way!
@greebo7857
@greebo7857 2 года назад
V8 sounds great, but here in Oz petrol is $8 per gallon. My TD5 goes every bit as well as a V8 and uses half the fuel. And diesel is "only" $7
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 2 года назад
@@greebo7857 Well well well, lucky you! I just did the math, and a gallon of petrol here in Belgium costs $11.03. Ouch... TD5's are absolutely fine as well, agreed. I briefly had a Defender 90 with that power plant, and was very happy with it.

the wonders of traction control, cdl or not the traction control makes the vehicle
@VanIsleDisco

One of the main reasons I purchased it. Traction control is one of my favourite features. A blend of old school rugged construction and modern off road technologies.

Crazy how CDL is making it normal standard 4wd. Never could've imagined the Awd with TC could be as good or better than 4x4 without TC. I own a Disco2 on 33s, lifted and no sway bars and there are time where CDL (4x4) is very needed

Great driver skills I was really impressed that were some really steep climbs with added humps to get over that was epic and Discovery 2s a great bit of kit ...as for CDL and when to use it have a look at Trailer fitter's Toolbox Videos, Why do land rover transmission units fail-ask the expert It's an interview with Ashcroft's if you spin up the wheels with say just one of the front wheels really letting go apparently it can soon break the CDL , I've taken my D2 up the odd steep climb but nothing that technical thanks for sharing 👍🏻
@mikeb53
@mikeb53 2 года назад
When you say CDL you mean you mean just center diff. I watched that video, and its excellent, Ashcrofts know their stuff when it comes to the old transmissions and drivetrains. Good share! If I am climbing, wading, moving through mud, or moving over crossaxle situation, my center diff is locked and stays locked till I have to start making tight turns.
@ronaldrrootiii6040
@ronaldrrootiii6040 5 месяцев назад
@@mikeb53yeah that makes sense since CDL is just all-wheel drive turning into four-wheel drive. So might as well be in 4-wheel drive

Traction control works so remarkably well in these. Heck, even some modern TC systems on 4wd’s built today dont work this well.
@VanIsleDisco
@VanIsleDisco Год назад
Admittedly, the traction control system is one of the main reasons I wanted a disco in the first place. It works very well, especially with the centre diff lock
@ronaldrrootiii6040
@ronaldrrootiii6040 5 месяцев назад
Yeah I love mine and I agree I think it's because it applies to break harder and doesn't wait so long. I don't know what other ones do if there's no point in hardly playing the break or I'm waiting so long before I see with other manufacturers like even Subaru LOL everyone brags about it but they do tests on it and it will sit forever when it does press the brakes it does slightly power over

Thank you! It was a lot of fun to put together. Lots of adventures. I am not sure the size of those tires exactly, but I believe they were either 30 or 31” tires. I later upgraded to 33” mud terrains

Hello Aidan, what actuator did you install? P38?
@bohicajohnson7203

If you are off the black stuff, engage the CDL. Save the centre diff from being destroyed. What pressure in the tyres?
@VanIsleDisco
@VanIsleDisco 3 года назад
Running with the CDL disengaged should not be harmful?. Especially if the TC is modulating torque. I find there is less chance of shock loading the axles. In the last climb, the CDL was engaged. At one point you can see the truck bouncing as both the front and rear axles fight for traction on the loose surface. That situation puts plenty of strain on the CV's. I generally only engage the CDL under extreme circumstances such as in the video. I find that the TC system operates very nicely for the majority of off road driving and feels much more forgiving to the powertrain. When TC has to work very hard I engage the lock. I chose not to air down. The tires are 30 psi in the front and about 32 in the rear. When I get bigger tires and 16'" wheels, I will air down then. The small 30" tires on an 18" rim do not provide a great sidewall. Cheers!
@bdgrvikefan
@bdgrvikefan 2 года назад
Airing down makes a big difference. My D2 has 32s on 16” wheels and I only run them at about 19-20 psi, and the grip is crazy good. Like you, I only engage the CDL on extreme stuff. Easy for me as i put it on a linear actuator and only push a button to engage/disengage. Fun to see Discovery’s in their natural environment. Great video!
@VanIsleDisco
@VanIsleDisco 2 года назад
@@bdgrvikefan next time I am up there, I will air down the tires and give it a try for sure. I too built a bracket and utilized a switched linear actuator for my CDL. Very convenient. Cheers.

@@VanIsleDisco Bohica is absolutely correct. you will smash your thrust bearing in the LT230. it was Landrovers biggest warranty issue. Ashcroft mentioned it in a video. Ill be honest I'm lazy and only engage it when I'm slipping too. basically, your transferring the load somewhere in the truck, 32's do stress the CV if you're throwing it up in the air. but watching your driving in this video. its fairing gentle in comparison to some heavy foot drivers. BTW, fantastic video
@ronaldrrootiii6040
@ronaldrrootiii6040 Год назад
@@bdgrvikefan yeah same here I run the 16-inch wheels with 33 inch mud terrain air down to 20 psi and I swear it just floats over things. I sometimes have to look for the most ridiculous dangerous stuff for it to even slip. And at that point I'm straight to needing a rear Locker almost hahaha anyway I love that tire wheel and PSI combo and run it every single weekend. Sometimes I'm on the highway going 65 mph down at 20 psi still if I don't have my compressor and I'm going to the gas station 5 miles away or something it's hilarious they sound so loud

@Reaper4367
@Reaper4367 2 года назад
hello. All the D2's had CDL installed. Though for some reason the models 2001-2003 never had the linkages installed. Buy a CLD linkage and install it. Done.

@ronaldrrootiii6040 5 месяцев назад
In America all of them have the transfer case CDL except for 2003. Except only 2004 came with the linkage lever already installed. So 99,2000,2001,2002 Have CDL Tcase but not linkage. 2003 no CDL nipple even on the Tcase 2004 has CDL and the linkage/lever already.

your spotter needs to look beneath your car. Hearing the diff smashing against the rock is not healthy. Top effort though. My old D1 needs a lokker for that lol.
