In the fall of 1975, talk of building the Lower Churchill hydro project was in full swing. Before the dam was to go up, three trappers - Mark Blake, John Blake, and Horace Goudie - decided to make the 321-kilometre canoe trip from Churchill Falls to Goose Bay, just for old times' sake.

Had to look at this show again and loved every minute of it. These men were some of the hardest working men on earth.

I just love seeing these adventures of years gone by...not all the hoopla about gear, just getting out there and doing it !

I met Horace Goudie's brother Joe when I was posted to Goose Bay before I retired. Joe is a wonderful man and an expert canoe builder. He was getting up in age and offered me his trapline. In fact I called him today to see what he was up to and he was building a canoe for himself finally after all these years. Joe is 83 years old and can still outwork me any day of the week and 3 times on Sunday....

Man I gotta question for anyone when was this show made?? Just curious because when I was younger I worked at old town canoe down here in Maine and I never remember seeing metal on the rails we used to use plastic or wood but I don't remember any metal on the canoes i love these shows the men and women who trapped and fish along Newfoundland Labrador are a great people !! Thanks to cbc nl for sharing this with us on here 😁

I live in southern Maine and a lobsterman and it’s pretty neat to see them using old town canoes!

Does anyone know what the tapered planks leaned against the cabin were? A form of snow shoes maybe?

The environment that was destroyed by this damn project makes the Alberta oil sands look like a drop in the bucket in comparison . I guess it's ok though because it was beneficial to Quebec
