When I saw him with the Steve Gadd band in February of 2020, he had two boards. A wet/dry type setup. You can find pictures from Vertex Effects. The first board looked like this; Overdrive/Dirt section Way Huge Green Rhino (unsure of the model) Maxon SD-9 Chorus section: Way Huge Blue Hippo Univibe: Drybell Vibe Machine (it was a red version 1) Tremolo: Suhr Jack Rabbit And a Boss FV-50L volume pedal Then on the second board, there was a Strymon Bluesky and a Strymon Timeline along with an expression pedal and I think there was a buffer.
Definitely a departure from the big racks that he used in the studios in the 80s and early 90s. Simple set-up and it sounds great! But I would hate to do all the tap dancing that could be involved with going back to a pedalboard.
Great Mike! I have a question though: Why does he put the wha after the distortions? If I do so in my pedalboard, the modified true-bypass crybaby sounds like crap ... it becomes very coarse and the volume rises significantly. In my case, much better before the distortions, the sound and the volume are more homogeneous.
Mattia Sansavini wha after distortion makes wha range more dynamic but when you do this with cheap wha pedal it sounds cheap and crap. John, Guitarist in RHCP also set his wha pedal like that too with his original Ibanez wh-10
Jeff Strittmatter Like I said, the pedal doesn't know the difference between a power supply and a battery; they're both DC. If there's a difference in the voltage--a new battery delivers 9.6V, for ex--there might--MIGHT--be a slight difference. Other than that, no.
no Mike doesn't get the tri sound here.. just a fast Leslie sound from the Arion.. during this time Mike only used the Tri Chorus sound in the studio.. but not here.
But it sounds so similar... I am not a guitarist that's why I'm asking. How does he achieve this 80s chorus sound nowadays? I think he only uses the leslie effect from the Arion.
He no longer uses the 80s Tri Stereo Chorus sound since he has sold his rack that he used during that time.. he also no longer uses the Arion.. he uses a Way Huge Blue Hippo chorus.. but you can find out about the Tri Stereo chorus he did use here.. facebook.com/DynoMyPiano/
I am french, playing drums since 1963, and I discovered Landau through Joni Mitchell's "Turbulent Indigo, in 1994, almost 25 years ago! ever heard of Scott Henderson, Allen Hinds, Greg Howe, etc... ???? Listen to "Dog cheese", here on youtube, 1984: Landau,Colaiuta, Klein, Tavaglione: great music
Ive got you beat. I worked for a small guitar maker in Van Nuys. This guy Mike would come in and we made him at least a guitar a year. He was always real cool and always would talk to us. Everyone would freak when they would hear this but to me he was just this guy Mike.
