This is how I managed to get a job in Australia's amazing Pearling industry, from how I applied, where to apply, the main two companies in WA, the adventures of working at Sea and working in a Laboratory spawning Pearl Oysters.
I landed a job with a company called Clipper Pearls located in Broome Western Australia, this job was working as a Hatchery technician assistant. Based in a remote location the function of the Hatchery was to Spawn Oysters, grow them on until large enough to go out to the farm at Sea. Located in a beautiful bay every day I was lucky enough to look out at the sea that was only a stone’s throw away, Dolphins, Crocodiles, Manta ray, Humpback Whales, Snakes, Frogs and many more! This place was truly a paradise and my DREAM JOB!
In between seasons, I got the opportunity to go and work out at sea on the Ship, this was to go and collect new mature Oysters for the next Spawning, and to help the crew with day-to-day tasks, and this was a work rota of 10 days on the Ship and 2-3 day off.
After seeing through two Spawning seasons and working with the company for 8 months I continued my travels in search for the next adventure.
