I helped start BRCMA in 1999. Been volunteer, staff and participate through it all over those years. Just returned after 3 weeks. It’s come a long way since a hole in the fence and half a dozen GA pilots. We had a lot of fun in those early years! Still rewarding in many ways. Loved seeing the 24 out there. But man, that place destroys everything…vehicles, gear, ego, relationships, career, etc
Awasome landing and turn. Great skill and credits to Pilatus but especially to the pilot. I got surprised that "gate" crew waiting upon opening the doors wasn't wearing speedo's and Sumerian masks and burning torches.
It's amazing how burning man becomes the 19th largest airport in 325 miles for a few weeks. It's amazing how the ground crews and ATC can take nothing and turn it into an airport in a matter of a day or two.
I heard that people flew in to camps already set up for them but I had no idea it was so sophisticated with a tower (not up in the air) but communication. And ground crew. WOW!
I figured that GA/Charter/Private aircraft was the antithesis of Burning Man. I didn’t see a hoard of hippies encircle you with pitchforks and torches, instead I saw a makeshift FBO.
Well, Burning Man has transformed over the years, from being a "hippie convention", to being a "rich stoner convention". Either way, I still refer to them as Burning Morons, because I express myself freely everyday, and it doesn't cost me a dime. 🙂
I volunteered at the BRC Airport one year. I’m a burner, 13 consecutive years. Can’t get tickets for the past 6 years. I think your Burning Man description just might need updates. Hippies lol we’re burners.
Wow, I've never seen a runway exit taken at such a high speed. That runway only became visible when the plane was seconds away from the threshold. The PC-24 is indeed the Jeep of the skies, capable of flying in and out of dirt runways with confidence. Fantastic footage sir, as always. Looking forward to more.
Cool footage. We operate Hawker 800XP/850XP's, Falcon 2000's, Challenger 300, and Falcon 900's, and have been working in aviation since 1989. I am also participate as a "Ranger" at regional Burning Man events in the Midwest. I never thought of jet landing there or have seen any footage of aircraft landing there from the pilots perspective. Thank you for sharing this experience. Pretty darn awesome, and the PC-24 is a pretty impressive aircraft for charter work.
Thanks for the ride! That PC-24 is a real beauty. Never thought I would see a situation where it was viable to fly such a pretty bird...onto a dry lakebed! Then again, I thought it nuts to drive a Prevost coach into such conditions. Hey, this is part of the silliness that is only possible in America! Love it, man! Hell, not only possible, but you guys were working a turnaround for more customers. Absolutely fantastic.
Wow, very cool. That's a sweet looking bird. The stitched leather dash did not go unnoticed. Must be awesome to fly it. There's just something about the array of readouts, light and buttons and the radio chatter that appeals to me
Thank you! I ran out several times to try and take a video. Our trailer is in your final shots with the StarPort in the background and "oval" trailer with "ribbon decals" Right next to us, hidden by out trailer, were the ATC crew. We are grateful to have ATC here this year! My husband and I were here as our retirement year after working decades at BRCMA, he is/was the Safety Officer. Thank you for a great video!
Thanks for the ride along Tommy! What an impressive airplane! I was within a stones throw of the Pilatus factory in Switzerland last week on vacation but the factory tours were already booked up for the rest of this year.😔 Maybe next time!
Hey Tommy!! Wow that was nice. Beautiful flying and definitely looking forward to the next one. Very very nice. Please keep coming out with more vlogs!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the video, scenic views and the fact that you can land that jet on the Playa. My soul still wonders about jets in BRC, but regardless, Pretty epic time you are having. Blessings!
I've never been to Burning Man, but my impression of Burning Man is that arriving in a private jet is contrary to the whole spirit of Burning Man. Not to hate on private jets. I used to design them for a living.
I'd agree, but my first/only experience was back in '97, and I suspect things have changed considerably since then. Back then they didn't widely publish where it was, one had to figure it out. haha P.s. who did you design for? 👍
One of the Burning Man principles is Radical Inclusion, meaning everyone is welcome. What you do when you get there though, does matter. People are expected to be able to take care of themselves, clean up after themselves, and to participate. Unprepared whiny entitled spectators are annoying, regardless of how they arrive.
@@mocassin92 why chime in with absolute bs and lies? News flash d!pshit, if they left all the trash that you purport to, the BLM wouldn't renew their lease each year. The BLM was highly suspect of the organization the first couple years, but quickly realized they mean it when they say "leave no trace".
I made the drive from Reno back and fourth to the Black Rock Desert playa 4 days in a row in mid August this year working on a dust devil documentary. Really cool to see the journey from the air! You've got a new subscriber here. Edit: There's a dust devil off your right shoulder at 19:48! Sorry, I've spent so much time out there scanning the horizon for them that I can't help myself! 😄
That's the way to do it-getting out this year was bad! Left my camp at 9am Monday, didn't get home in Tahoe till early Tuesday morning. 12 hours just to get to pavement and Gerlach, the nearest town.
Amazing aircraft, nice flight - well done 👊 Somehow though, all that iron at Burning Man seems anathema to the founding principles of the event, but hey - times change!
Who would have thought a bunch of rich hippy wannabes would be hypocrites. It disgust me how wealthy people claim to be environmentally conscious. Your wealth says imperialism, domination, and compliance in systems of mass suffering and subjugation. No matter how much acid they trip on they will never be loving and caring humans. I hate how most won't admit they're spoiled brats, never worked for anything, and sell to others that they got what they have due to merit and intelligence.
👍👍👍 that was a nice trip to Burning Man 2022. Always a big charter event. I was very impressed at how smooth the PC24 takes on the dusty flats. My biggest worry would be the dust from another craft landing in front of me. Not good for the paint or engines. Great job you two, and thanks for taking us along. Peace.
The PC-24 is an awesome jet. Nice landing guys, that RWY looked a bit soft from all the use. Is that line in the upper quarter of each windscreen part of the deicing system for the windscreen?
Lol, here I thought all these years Burning Man only had land access, huh silly me! That's Murica of course they're gonna land there with whatever they can land there! :)
Yep, they should ban generators A/C units, refueling and supply trucks, e bikes, etc..how you supposed to feel that burn? Glampin asses 🤣 Coachella take over the good ol days are drifting away
You meantioned landing on dirt strips, dry lake beds in prep for Burning Man. If I was an owner operator I would think landing in areas like that often must mean increased maintenance and cost. If it were my bird I would have at a minimun put engine covers on while parked. Thanks for the ride, like landing on the moon.
Hey Tommy!!! GREAT VIDEO!!..I have a nephew that looks just like you...his name is JJ ..he is about about 23 and he would like to do something like taking a trip like that.......Me Too..:0)...
I've been to Black Rock dozens of times (never for BM) and I can't imagine taking a jet out on the playa. The dust intrusion has to be severe! Not to mention it has to be hard on the engines. Wow. I saw a Cessna 172 flip over trying to land there. The playa was too fluffy where he was trying to land and it dug in and flipped. Pilot was OK, but the rental plane had some scuff marks. There was no fancy tower or cut runway though. Wonder if Bruno's Country Club is still there.
