This seems mad. Was the approach over Chania / Souda Bay? Never flown across the island like that - whether I am flying into Heraklion or Chania we just head for the airport from the sea and do a short final pattern in. Usually from the east but I have not reached the end of the video yet...
It's a standard approach into Heraklion from the east, the aircraft usually fly close to Santorini, then do a turn to starboard and follow the coast in from around the Malia and Stalis area.
