Yet the touchdown was as gentle as an asteroid impact. He prioritised AOA and speed but all that was a waste with such a hard landing. He touched down with 700 Ft/m which led to a nosewheel slam into the tarmac. Up to that point though, that's a very nice guide.

@paulwalker2988 Месяц назад
@@BANANP Oh I saw many of them. None of them buried their nose gear into the ground .3 of a second after touchdown. But setting real life aside, this here is a tutorial and.... landing like this can catch an unexperienced pilot off guard. It can lead to bouncing or veering of off the runway. The biggest problem with this plane is not aiming it for the runway but keeping it under control once it touches down. In that aspect, following the guidance of this vid to the T. will lead many new pilots to find themself inverted in the ditch.

@@paulwalker2988 also keep in mind that the track replay system is not 100% reliable. The ‘uncut’ landing seems much smoother than some of the extrnal replays, they are all the same landing but played out slightly differently each time.

The descent rate calculation for a 3 degree glideslope is 5% of your groundspeed on approach, mentally I use ( GS x 10 ) / 2. You can shorten this mentally to just "add a zero, divide by two". So 160 knots groundspeed = 800fpm

I would have a request or an advice for that kind of video tutorial about a check-list: the switch between the panels and gages to check are made almost like swiping pictures, but I find it hard to visualize what’s the visual pattern, or at least the continuity of the visual pattern. It could help to globally keep the overview of the cockpit, and have a smooth pattern, zooming on instruments needed to be checked. But… just my opinion (or a user request, or a flight instructor advice :-D )
@ReflectedSimulations
@ReflectedSimulations 29 дней назад
That's good advice, I always sweep left to right or right to left, but the Phantom checklist doesn't necessarily follow that order, especially not after engine start.
@Keldor314
@Keldor314 Месяц назад
Be mindful where you cut the drag chute - that thing is a bit of a FOD hazard. Ideally, you want to turn your aircraft so that you drop the chute off the side of the taxiway or runway, and give it a bit of a puff with the engines as you cut it to blow it further away. Just make sure you're not aligned in such a way that you blow it back onto the runway.

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it. I don’t like telling people what to bind and how, it’s personal, and it depends on your HOTAS. I like to bind stuff to keys and buttons that are in a similar position relative to my body as in the cockpit. Easier to remember.

Found it: 'Phantom Guide' from the USAF Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB from 1988. It specifies the initial must be flown offset, and you initiate your break abeam the touchdown point. @Abledoggie42

@@ReflectedSimulations That’s an EDW specific procedure. Fly over the runway, offsetting opposite the break puts your wingmen in even a worse position for their break. Also, coordinated rudder and aileron when rolling in the landing configuration.

cool vid, love the F4. noticed you said a couple of interesting items. never roll with the rudder, always add the aileron into a turn and rudder to control yaw (Flying 101)speed or aoa broken if not on the speed that's shown on the chart, however, note 1 states its for CG 31% mac and note 2 on that chart does say +_6 knots so I wouldn't jump the conclusions to quick. also irl numbers will be close but never on tgt.

Then I watched Notso's landing video and realized that I wasn't aerobraking anywhere near enough. Once that clicked in, it was glorious!!! My landings were sweet. IRL, landing in a crosswind was my biggest challenge as a student pilot (due to the cross control technique required) and my intimidation upon dipping wing low while approaching the runway, lol. Years later when I began working on my tailwheel endorsement, "Wheel Landings" were quite challenging, due to a similar intimidation. This time, it was the need to push the stick forward as soon as the mains contacted the runway (to plant the gear firmly)! Push the stick forward? Are you kidding me! 😳😂 Haha, once it clicked, it was a beautiful thing.

Don’t forget differential braking to stay on the centerline. Reflected mentioned it and it’s in the real flight manual. Nose wheel steering is basically only good for taxiing.

Once you get the hang of it it’s quite easy!

It’s not bad. This is a great tutorial, but basically with flaps and gear down, fly the indexer (doughnut) and don’t get slow. Better to be on the fast (bottom) side of the indexer than slow. If long, go around. Have a button mapped for the drag chute, because it’s hard to click the handle while staying on the centerline. Keep practicing.

This is interesting plane to fly. On take Off you trim down and on landing you trim up. 😂

You trim up for landing in all planes.

@@Essah15 I know but trimming down in takeoff is strange but is feature of f4. But very interesting plane anyways. These little details make these older planes More interesting than Modern fbw planes 😀

Spitfire, Mustang, 109, you trim all of them down for takeoff - although very different airframes.

I've never Flown airplane except in simulator so I dont really know about trimming but in sims during takeoff I trim slightly up. But if trimming down is correct I need to correct my takeoff procedure. I'M from Finland and Finnish air force had british jet trainer Gnat (hot shots Movie) that had tendency to pitch up heavily during takeoff. It needed down trim or it went vertical and might stall.

@@banditkfk1463 Trim down in the Mudhen pretty aggressively as well, if you takeoff with the correct TO trim setting! Heck, I have to trim down a little in the GA planes I fly IRL, once I'm airborne.
