En 1997 yo trabajaba en la Fuerza Aérea que está en Toncontín y recuerdo que aterrizó un avión militar Hércules C-130, se salió de la pista, obviamente todos perecieron..

For decades SAHSA, TAN and TACA were the only airlines flying large aircraft to Toncontin (B727, BAC-111, Vickers Viscount, Electra L-188, DC-6), when the landing was really was much more difficult because of the high terrain and obstacles on very short final right next to the approach end to runway 02. Because of this other airlines would not fly to Tegucigalpa. Eventually during the late 90's I believe the runway was extended and the high ground close to the runway leveled-off or flattened. After that the landings were a lot easier for the pilots. The Honduran pilots who flew for SAHSA and TAN airlines during that time were the best and the real experts. Por decadas solo SAHSA, TAN y TACA eran las unicas lineas aereas que volaban aviones grandes a Tontontin (B727, BAC-111, Vickers Viscount, Electra L-188, DC-6) cuando en realidad era mucho mas dificil el atterizaje por el terreno alto en final corto a la pista 02. Por eso otras lineas aereas no volaban a Tegucigalpa. Eventualmente creo que en los 90's la pista fue extendida y el terreno alto cercano a la pista fue 'aplanado'. Despues de esto los atterizajes se hicieron mas facil para los pilotos. Los pilotos de Honduras que volaron con SAHSA y TAN durante esa epoca eran los mejores y verdaderos expertos.

Bueno se está construyendo otro aeropuerto con 3,400m de largo en Comayagüa (Palmerola), pero estará a más de una hora de la capital. En sí sera un mejor aeropuerto y éste (El Toncontín) se usará nada mas para vuelos nacionales.
el problema en Honduras por si no lo sabes es que Honduras tiene demasiado valles y montañes. Es el pais mas montañoso en Centro America por eso de dificulta crear aeropuertos en otros sitios. 85% del territorio hondureño esta compuesto de parques nacionales y areas protegidas. Para el año 2021 va ignagurar otro nuevo aeropuerto en la ciudad colonial de Comayagua. No tiene nada que ver por lo que tu dijiste

Si no lo hace en ese tiempo se caen al precipicio. Un desastre este aeropuerto. Inadmisible que exista y lo peor es que haya aerolineas que lo utilicen. Busquen un video donde se aterriza de noche. Es viajar en la cámara del terror. Patético.

Excelent, great spot to "spot". The last one, was it the Embraer 190 from Taca? My siblings live across the runway from you and I took a few videos from their terrace a few years back.
Also to note due to the raised ground and hill where this video is been filmed, the piano keys are set further down the runway meaning the aircraft land later!

This reminds me of the scene in the old Warren Beatty movie "Shampoo" where the aging mogul Lester Karpf (Jack Warden) sees a couple getting on in the dark on the kitchen floor and exclaims, "That's real effing!" The refrigeration door swings open and he sees that female of the duo is his young finace Jackie (Julie Christie), but that's another story. I see this, and I think, "That's real flying!" The takeoffs don't look so hard - they're just kind of a delayed touch-and-go. St. Maarten might be more fun to watch though.
