The FBI need to definitely investigate every rental company and private renter's in the state of Florida. Not only has rent doubled but they'll rent you the unit at $1,700.00 in January 2024 and in April 2024 increase the rent a extra $150.00 no upgrades and yes even on a 12 month lease. HOA fees increased. Yet they no longer cover water or lawn care services. Tenants and homeowners are now billed for those services. I agree with Jami on not stopping with rental companies but investigate the houses market as well.

Here in California the landlord asking that you make 3x's the rent to qualify for an apartment. If a person could afford an apartment for $3,000 per month tenants need to make at least $9,000 per month.

Dallas Texas is having the same problem. I know people who rent has increased $100-$150 each year since Covid. No upgrade improvement, and won’t fix issues. Hopefully they investigate many companies. And salaries are not giving raises or cost of living compensations.

I live in North Carolina every year. The rent in my complex goes up $100 the elderly with a set income have to move out because they can’t afford it. The apartments is old mold floors are sinking in. I hope investigators come to all these company complex. It’s sad.

What I don’t understand is different rates on the same floor for drastically different rates. I get it there’s differences in square footage in spaces and amenities available. However that should not amount to me paying $2595 and my neighbor to the right paying $3250 and the neighbor to the left paying $4050 for the same layout with just a few square footage difference. Also this nonsense of application fees and demanding first and last months rent plus security deposit. Not everyone is fortunate to have $15k sitting in a bank account to meet those demands. The flip side to this; the sales and marketing folks can’t even afford those outlandish prices and fees these apartment buildings are charging. This whole housing market is fixed and meant to keep lower and middle income families right where they’re at. There’s no opportunity for saving and growth when one is paying upwards of 40-60% of their income for a roof over their heads.

Jamie, please dig into them and then let’s have a protest in front of the WH and ATL’ capital. Also do it for auto and home insurance because something similar has to be going on for them to allow them to increase the rates so frequently. Most people don’t use their policies especially homeowners but we are paying astronomical rates. These high rates in ga bc we are on the coastal line is some bs. We are not near the water. We rarely get damage like that. They have created some design to make us inclusive for financial gain. It needs to be fought and changed!

I've talked to enough Uber Drivers/Landlords to form an option on which the Landlords are in or in agreement with the happenings. These people always tell me to buy a property and have the tenants pay for it. I don't mind that as the rents need to be enough to cover the cost, but they are trying to make the tenants pay for the building and fund their lifestyle. I also agree that rents should reflect the amenities the landlords provide. Paying 2k for a $600 1960's apartment where the only thing updated is the used refrigerator is ridiculous.

It's about time! I remember looking for an apartment way back in 2015 and being told that rental rates were only good for 24 hrs because of "market pricing." It sounded like a scam and I see I was correct 😒

Girl in 2016 I paid $515 for a 2 bed 2 full bath apartment. I left went on the road to drive trucks, came off in 2022 and now pay $1260 for the same. I'm mad as hell I should've bought a house.

I had this experience, recently, and did the math on the price manipulation. Basically, if I wanted to save $ by renting in mid month at the beginning of lease, they up the $ to recoup the 2 week expense that I sought to avoid. In the end, I leased it bc it was one of a kind in floor plan. Price fixing violates anti-trust laws and DOJ should investigate

I'm currently on the hunt for an apartment and I live in GA. Cortland apartments have popped up in several of my searches, but haven't toured any yet. Also, these people do put a lot of pressure on renters to apply immediately or the price increases or they risk losing the unit.

They change the names because of those reviews. I wrote a bad review for an apartment complex which snowballed into having apartments condemned. They changed their name a few months after I left.

Where my niece live her apt management hired mexicans for the front office ,got rid of the white and black staff.and hired mexican maintenance workers.her apt is horrible, dishwasher has never worked ,its a very old apt complex.everything in her apt had been painted over , the tub looks horrible and the cabinets in her kitchen are ole as heck and the wood is warped and painted over😢.😢😢
