Thank You Preservation Foundation for Highlighting Belford Shoumate, our most significant residential Art Deco architect found in the book Art Deco of the Palm Beaches by Sharon Koskoff.
The former owner was good friend, I am familiar with this house. It is a marvel in extremism of Art Deco. I hope the new owners kept many of the characteristic features in the bathrooms and kitchen, but they probably did not - pity. Thank you, Sharon Koskoff, for your passion and insight!
Thank you for offering such informative and imaginative programs on the preservation efforts and history of Palm Beach. I have thoroughly enjoyed each of them, from Art Deco period back to Mediterranean. And the architectural awards programs you hold and put on utube are so enjoyed. The information and formats are always exceptional. I live in Cocoa Florida but love visiting PB and each time I visit I try to locate some of the sites presented in your programs. I can’t thank you enough for for these thoughtful and historic introductions. High fives to your great staff effort!!
I did not know that Shoumate had an association for a time with Carolos Schoeppl. I happen to live in a house based on plans by Schoeppl, built in 1952. It is in the College Park section of Lake Worth Beach. There is a twin to my house, which is truer to the original Schoeppl plan, in the Northwood Shores area of West Palm Beach. Furthermore, you also mention Edgar Wortman. He was a prolific mid-20th century Lake Worth architect. He was a City Commissioner for a time and most famously designed the Lake Worth Beach Casino Building in the International Style that existed during the last half of the 20th century.
