Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri | Communication Skills Analysis 

I feel like what says so much about their dynamic is when Lando forgets words or where they race next and stuff. Over time in those moments hes started to look to Oscar to fill in the blanks and Oscar seems to wait for him to ask for help. He doesnt interrupt him, but when Landos stuck and looks to him, he helps him out. Their different personalities seem to balance each other. Lando seems calmer and more grounded, where Oscar seems to have come out of his shell more. Looking at older videos of Oscar, that personality is coming through with Lando more and more. And my favorite part is how they dont let anyone push a narrative that they dont like each other or that they are fighting and enemies and such. They joke about it, make it clear that they wanna beat each other on track, but that they do that without any bad blood between them. Their dynamic on and off track is truly what makes them the best teammate pairing in F1 at the moment.

For some reason I vibe more with Oscar. He's low-key hilarious and his radio messages are always top tier.

this was very interesting! great stuff. I think the differences between these two communication styles is also what makes Lando and Oscar (as a duo) popular in the fan community - it never seems like they’re competing for attention or trying to outdo each other in any way, because they’re so different. In this video especially, I liked how Oscar’s explanations were very cohesive and informative and Lando’s were more intuitive and human (? it’s difficult to find a proper word for what I want to say because English is not my first language but I hope you understand what I’m getting at). The contrast made the video feel complete - as in both informative and entertaining

My favorite team on the grid! I love how they push each other with a healthy level of competition. Oscar just joined F1 last year, and Lando is his senior of sorts. He keeps him on his toes and their different personalities complement each other quite well. Will be interesting to see them race once Oscar has some more experience under his belt, seeing as he's already holding his own against the top dogs. I would love to see Lando win a championship soon too. McLaren in general has a very realistic attitude and work hard to keep morale high. Lando has been fiercely loyal to the team, and I think that confidence speaks volumes.

its interesting that you point out how trustworthy / patient / teacher-like oscar comes across - i think it's probably because he has 3 younger sisters. i find that eldest siblings, especially ones with lots of younger siblings, tend to have this super patient and teacherly vibe to them, because they're used to explaining stuff and guiding their siblings

You should do George Russell Lando and Alex albon they've had multiple videos together. They're really fun to watch considering their friendship

I'd look at some of Oscar's old Prema racing videos if you want to see a bit more of him. I feel like he's not as at ease with the publicity of F1 as he was then. He jokes a lot more for example.

What stroke me in Pistri is his communications (in race) with his engineer. The vast majority of pilots are screaming, hard-breathinh, etc. Dude is just talking, very calm, very relaxed (but focused). Specially being him "the rookie".

6:31 Lando relates what he’s saying to something I’ve experienced, but I get the stats and numbers from Oscar. I wish I’d had this pair teaching me high school French. 😢😅 would have nailed it.

Landoscar is by far my favourite duo on the grid and I love your vids :] If you want to see their relationship better I’d look at either a mclaren unboxed video or some more recent challenges they did. They did a Pictionary challenge recently and i think it was the most emotion I’ve ever seen Oscar display lol

I feel like Lando, being more experienced than Oscar in f1 considering it's his sixth season, has taken the responsibility as the leader of McLaren. He started young (19) and always had older teammates like Carlos who guided him. Now that he's the oldest and more experienced one, he's seen as the leader of McLaren in a way. And I think Oscar sees that and is learning things from him. This year I have noticed them being more comfortable with each other and many people compared them with 2019 Carlos and Lando. I know you've reacted to Carlos and Lando before so you may know what I'm talking about😂

I'd be fascinated to see you to an episode of Team Torque from Williams with the Williams drivers Logan and Alex. As someone who's followed Oscar for a long time, this was a pretty accurate read. He's very smart, and very introverted, but his calm collection and his patience have been his trademark through the years.

I think you’re absolutely right that they both have quite differing communication styles (which makes them all the more interesting as a pair) - with Oscar seeming to thoroughly and methodically think before he speaks, and Lando thinking while he speaks and therefore coming off as more conversational. Both are really chill dudes though. I know you’ve already reacted to Charles and Carlos, together, as well as each separately, but I’d love if you could do another C2 video reaction soon. They’re notably considered one of if not the best pair on the grid (in terms of both their relationship and how well matched they are skill-wise) because they get on so well on and off track, quite clearly respect and praise each other, but also play and tease and fight and compete like siblings over every little thing. Could you do an analysis of Kevin Magnussen? (F1) He has the reputation of a bad boy, hot-headed idiot on track which is the complete opposite of his character outside of a racecar. Or an analysis of Kevin and his teammate Nico Hülkenberg. These two couldn't stand each other years ago and are now friends since they became teammates and fathers.

Yesterday’s British GP highlighted a big difference between Oscar’s and Lando’s communication skills while driving. Communication styles outside the cockpit don’t win you championships, but communications between the driver and the pit wall win you races and championships. Lando lost the race because of indecisiveness and poor comms with his pit wall. In the race, Oscar made the best of a bad situation through analytical and decisiveness in his communication with the pit wall.

I guess i can be a body language/communications expert, didn't take me long to figure out that Oscar was more introverted and precise while Lando is more extroverted and carefree. Was kinda expecting "Oscar used his eyebrows in a way that suggested he's secretly in love with Lando"

You need to react to their vids together from McLaren themselves! They have done multiple different challenges and you get a far better idea on their friendship and them as individuals, than you would with these “staged/cookie cutter” videos. With the McLaren videos, it very much feels like the camera got turned on and that’s it. No script or anything. Far more realistic!
