Come along with us as we return to a local landowners property here in Franklin County, Tennessee where he has dug open a spring cave with a track hoe for us to explore! We visited this property back in May and had explored some known caves and even starting digging on a good blowing lead. One of the caves that we were not able to get into that day was a spring cave. It was pushing out a lot of water the day we were there and had since dried up. Given the opportunity, the landowner used a track hoe to dig it out for us so we could easily get into it to explore.
When we arrived on site, it didn't take us long to get in. Less than 30 minutes, a few (large) rocks later, and we were off to scooping some virgin cave booty. We normally do not scoop this much cave but given the weather forecast for the coming week (rain every day) and the location of the cave, we made the decision to see as much as the cave as we possibly could while we could. Unfortunately, there was rain in the forecast so we were not able to see everything but we will be back to push and explore it more and even start a survey! Jason estimates we saw about 2,000 feet of cave during our scoop-a-thon! More to come...

THIS is a find!!! new to the community, but this type of find gives me so much hope that I can still go push some virgin passage. This cave is definitely really cool. some of it reminds me of the water crawling you have to do in sinking cove. i’ve only done the water crawls at sinking cove, but watching this i was almost teleported back into the cave! i really hope you show more of this cave, i can’t help but to think you guys might’ve truly found something. you’re easily looking at hundreds of feet worth of passage and who knows, hopefully something vertical is hanging about. keep us updated, this is going to be cool!

Oh most definitely will show more and what we find. For now, we need to wait til it dries up a bit more and absolutely no rain in the forecast! There is also still lots of cave being discovered, especially here in Tennessee. We have almost 12,000 known caves here.

I grew up exploring wild caves like this one with MVOR. I was probably 4 or 5 years old when I started. My younger brother was dubbed the youngest in the group at 2 weeks old. Our mom carried him in a papoose. Good times, and we were appreciative of the property owners who had surveyed and allowed others to enjoy these awesome places!

@tag_caver for such a wild and rowdy group, they have always shown a responsible respect for nature. Cavers are a different breed. Just as I was about to cross the middle age hump, I had a construction accident, and I am now paraplegic. Nowadays, channels like yours are my only realistic option of scratching that itch lol.

We know plenty about geology and the caves in our area. It is quite fascinating. Our limestone is a sedimentary rock and was formed when this was all an ocean. The caves were later carved out by water coming off the top of the sandstone and finding its way down into the limestone.
