Happy to see you point out that infrared is just another interpretation, like B&W. Some still want to be purists for an art form that by its very nature is an interpretation of the world around us.

Indeed Glen, the use of polarisers and neutral density filters always change the way we see things in quite a dramatic way.

Great news Steve! I've been to Peckforton Mere before and it's a fabulous place to walk to from your local canal. I walked with my Mum and sister Fiona from narrowboat Soulbury, via Sandstone Trail, then Peckforton Hills and then straight down to the mere itself. Most importantly, your landscape photography was the best and I liked the pictures you took. Anyway, Well done!

Great episode Steve... you had a little bit of everything chucked in there. As always your images take centre stage but I felt today's trip into the countryside was at times a little like watching old Jack Hargreaves talking about the things he loves - nature.. as you do with your photography. I will be honest some of that early morning light n misty atmosphere was begging some colour film to be thrown at it - there was some b roll around 1.13 mins that I wanted to say "shoot some colour"..lol alas not today . Still what you showed was still highly worth watching.

Great video Steve, nice location. I live not too far from here (Helsby) and need to start exploring more local spots this time of year whilst the sunrises are stupid o'clock.
@SteveONions
@SteveONions 6 лет назад
It’s surprising how many decent local spots there are but as you say Paul it’s better near to home this time of year when getting to the more dramatic locations means a 2am start (still fun though 🙂).
@Paul9
@Paul9 6 лет назад
Yeah 2am starts a struggle for me, I've been having to wildcamp if I want a sunrise at the moment which is lovely but a pain taking all your gear plus camping stuff. Have you ever photographed Eastham Country Park on the Wirral? I'm in love with the old trees there, seems like a location you would enjoy.
@SteveONions
@SteveONions 6 лет назад
I need to explore the Wirral a bit more rather than sticking to the obvious new Brighton and Heswall moorings. One for winter methinks.

Hi Steve. I was trying to work out where you were until I saw you walking up the path from your previous video near Peckforton castle. Love your comedy timing with the herd at the beginning of the vlog by the way! Hilarious! Thanks for showing how beautiful Cheshire is, Steve. I'm back in Chester visiting family later this week, so I'm going to have a yomp up Stanner Nab for sunrise or sunset. Being a photographer from way back in 35mm film days, I really enjoy the technical aspects of your videos. Makes for fascinating watching, so huge thanks for sharing.

That was a lovely video as usual. I like the look of Infrared photo you took. However, I didn't get something you've said. You've said, f.35 can make it look soft. Isn't that rule higher your f number sharper your pictures. I've also experienced something similar in 35mm. What is the limit, f.11 or f.16 can be soft (with tripod) in 35mm film photography?
@SteveONions
@SteveONions 5 лет назад
The higher f number increases your depth of field but beyond a certain point diffraction will soften the image. For large format f/22 is considered fine but I can see it come in at f/32 and smaller, particularly with the wideangle lens. For 35mm it is more tricky as the lack of outright image quality somewhat lessens the diffraction effect. For example, if you use the same lenses on a full frame DSLR as a 35mm camera you can see diffraction easier on the DSLR. I would say you are OK to use f/16 most of the time on 35mm film but at f/22 you will likely see a softening of you have a good enough scanner.

I’ll be doing a vlog from your back garden next Paul 😀. It is fortunate that there is a parking space opposite the Peckforton castle gatehouse which makes it a short walk across the field to the woods. I wish there was a decent view of Beeston castle but I’ve yet to find one.

What are the trespassing laws where you are ? Here in Texas, hopping over a gate or fence to hike out and shoot a photo can land you in trouble with the land owner and potential charges for trespassing.
@SteveONions
@SteveONions 6 лет назад
Hi. It depends where you are but providing you only want to take a quick photo most land owners don’t seem to mind. I would never walk across private land intentionally but in the UK trespassing is not usually a criminal offence unless damage is done.
