Superb Robin. Essential viewing for all Affinity users made so much easier by being jargon free. Thank you for the time and trouble you have taken to cover such a wide range of techniques.

Thanks for this video Robin....I appreciate that you made this video ( I think ) because of some of your viewers past requests. While we all admire your breadth of knowledge on several image editing tools, many of us are inclined to stay with one or two products. I was encouraged to initially buy Affinity Photo because of some of your videos and also bought your tutorials. I look forward to any future discoveries in this program you may find.

Yes, I have a large mix of subscribers and people are often switching between software packages. I'm going to add a poll to my channel to gather some data on the main RAW converters and editors. It will help me get a better balance of packages to concentrate on.

Thanks for the video Robin. You showed quite a few techniques here. I didn't realise about the colourspace setting. It hasn't been too much of an issue as I rarely develop RAW images with Affinity but good to know. I use C1. I am a little confused with your use of the brush to dial in adjustments. If you use opacity you are limiting the adjustment to that opacity setting with a single brush stroke. Wherever you brush it will have that amount of adjustment. If you wish to vary the adjustment in different parts I would use the flow. I typically use 5% and can build the adjustment up from there. For instance, some parts of the rock would get 30% and others 70%. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video.

Yes, you are correct with using flow rather than opacity although I don’t think it looks too much difference at low settings. That said, I was using a graphics pen set up where pressure and angle affect the results.

Thanks for sharing this complete workflow and showing an application of AP beyond retouching portraits :-). However… I really find AP quite weak in the highlights/shadows department and often end up with a very flat image. I’d be interested to see the same image processed using DxO PhotoLab for example.

The image would be better in PhotoLab. Personally I prefer using a dedicated RAW converter to AP. But, I know some people only want to use AP and I wanted to show that it’s possible to achieve good results that way.

Very well done Robin. I haven't used Affinity for a while and though I worked through your books on the subject This was a great reminder of the capabilities of Affinity. I also enjoyed seeing you work an image through your workflow. I agree with Jeremy that it would be interesting to see this same photo processed with DXO Photolab 5.

glad you liked it. To be honest, I don’t think it would look much different in PhotoLab but I suspect the quality would be better and I would find it easier to process. I might have to do a video comparing the results from three or four packages.

That would be very interesting. It could be helpful for those who are shopping for editing software too.

Very nice Robin! For your next challenge I would like to propose that you repeat this exercise with the same raw photo, except that you first do the raw processing in Capture One; and, then import the raw processed tif into AP. Continue by repeating the non-destructive editing in AP. This would help to answer the question of whether AP's raw editor is up to the industry standard, or not. Don't get me wrong, I love AP. I just have serious doubts about the capability of its raw editing persona. Thanks so much for your consideration.
