Beautiful shot of that waterfall - love the subtle vignette around it. As usual, your video is well done with excellent information on the camera set up and lens used.
Thank you so much Cathryn, I felt the vignette just enhanced the waterfall a little, after all that was the main focus of the image. Glad you find the information int he video helpful! :)
Andrew, I am always amazed when I see the final image. Looking at you setting up the shot is one thing, but then you just go BLAM! and there it is, a beautiful processed image with depth and emotion from edge to edge. This video is as inspiring as all your others. Thank you. The drone shots, even though they appear to be of lower resolution, give a very good sense of the lay of the land. Love it. Cheers.
Haha, I love your response, I think it's fantastic that you react like that! I noticed the drone footage wasn't as clear as I'd like it to be. The drone's sensor struggles in low light, so it doesn't appear as sharp. I've tweaked the settings so hopefully it'll be better in the future. Cheers mate! 👍🏻
Andrew Marr Man, you're so fortunate as a landscape photographer to live at such place. Meanwhile, I'm stuck here in central Europe watching these wonderful videos instead of doing shooting like you.
G'Day; a top photograph of Quinninup Falls. The drone footage was also good. Your story also impressed the importance of doing the hard yards to get a great photograph. Thanks for the experience. Mike in Oz
Stunning work on the video Andrew, and the pics of this pretty falls are epic! A bit miserable for you with the weather, but that is working outside for you, never can know exactly what it will do...
One thing that would be useful to us all is controlling the weather... I wear a bushman's hat when wet so I have my hands free and stay dry, just treat with boot polish and you are good to go..
Things i learned from this video: I need to steal some shower caps from the next hotel I'm staying at! Beautiful image and nice video Andrew, I really enjoy how you explain everything leading up to the shot in such detail. Maybe you could say some more things about composition?
Haha, that's where I get all my shower caps from. I can guarantee you'll now walk into hotel rooms thinking differently! :) I'll endeavour to include more about composition in future videos, thanks for the feedback mate! 👍🏻
I've taken quite a few waterfall shots recently and I think I am going to start using a faster shutter speed in the future. I've been pretty guilty of trying for very long exposures for smoothing the water but I think, looking at your shot here, that I've been overdoing it. I think I've been setting up the shutter for so long that the smooth effect is turning more into just a blurred effect. I like the detail you retained at the 1/4 second speed that you used on this shot while still achieving the smoothing effect. I need to pay more attention to the distance the water in my shots moves in 1/2 second, 1 second, 2 seconds, etc. and adjust my shutter speeds accordingly. These 5+ second shots I have been taking recently are probably far too lengthy of an exposure in most cases.
Nice location. I think I tend to go for too long a shutter speed. Pleased for you you've got the squarespace gig, unfortunately I already have a site through them otherwise I'd jump on it, they do make it very easy!
Wonderful video by all means but for a hobbyist and amateur a view of your camera settings or how your chosen settings interact would be of great help to emulate your success. Kindly consider showing us how to's of when inputting your chosen Shutter speed, Aperture (F-stop) etc. Thank you.
I've taken your feedback on board Deon, thanks for sharing. I'll see what I can do in the future. In the meantime, you may be interested in some of my other videos where I do show the settings on the camera (or at least on the back display), hopefully that'll help!
Great video, I was wondering if you ever have encounters with snakes as Ilive in Scotland and here the amount of poisonous snakes in Australia and how venomous they are and you walking through the bush I thought you might encounter them quite often. But great video and detailed thank you.
Thanks Ian, I'm jealous of where you live mate, Scotland is a beautiful part of the world. Snakes are a fact of life around here and I treat them all as venomous. I try not to worry about them too much but I do wear good hiking boots and walk loudly! :) Thanks very much for your comment! 👍
Good to see you back out on your own turf. Lovely shot of the waterfall and will keep your tips in mind when I am out and about. Have a few locations from Glencoe coming soon. Atb
A lovely location Andrew and excellent images. I have to ask, do you ever encounter venomous snakes on these outings? Thanks again for an entertaining video, just right as it is hissing down with rain here ATM.
Thanks very much Trevor, glad you enjoyed these images. Yes, snakes are common around these areas, however they tend to like to keep to themselves. Things are just warming up here as we move through spring and into summer so they are out in force. I don't tend to worry about them too much (or I'd never get out), but sensible shoes and walking loudly is the best defence.
Sitting here, not paying too much attention to what I was doing, and I clicked on your video. Not really thinking about it, but assuming that you were still in Iceland... You can imagine the shock when the kangaroos went bouncing across the screen! When did Iceland start importing kangaroos?? Duh!
Loved both images you got Andrew. The light break compliments it very well. Looks like a neat location. Also cool to see the SQ sponsorship. Right on sir. Cheers.
Cheers Diego and I appreciate your support, the sponsorship will certainly help with the channel. It's a location I plan on going back to as I think there are other opportunities for landscape images yet to be discovered! :)
At the beginning l thought it wouldn't be a nice image and I was completely wrong and I was wondering how beautiful the image you captured at end. Gorgeous Andrew........that is your skill.
Haha, the Western Australian landscape can take a bit of getting used to. Sometimes the beauty of obvious and other times it takes a little effort to find that composition you're after.
Always inspired when I watch your videos, Andrew! Beautiful shot as always. Sincerely thank you for always posting simple to understand and informative videos. Cheers!
Wow what amazing waterfalls love the layers of it. Great drone footage and stunning images, well worth putting up with a bit of bad weather for. Looking forward to your next video👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for that Tim, I've been meaning to get these waterfalls for some time! The weather wasn't bad, we need the rain otherwise there's no water to run through the waterfall. It'll dry up in a few weeks, I think I might have caught the best of it this year! :)
Another excellent vlog Andy and a cracking location too! Do you find it difficult to find inspiration having seen such amazing waterfalls in Iceland? You managed some beautiful images and the tip about shutter speed length is really handy thanks.👌 I hope you’re keeping well mate, take care and stay safe.🍀👌
Cheers Andy, I think there was a little transition time needed to get back into the groove of Australian landscapes (it certainly a little more challenging) as there aren't the big vistas, large waterfalls, Autumn colours, etc... However there's a unique beauty to be found if you're prepared to spend the time exploring! 👍
Thanks for that Julian, this area has a beautiful coastline that provide dramatic landscapes similar in a way to those you can get in your part of the world! :)
Very nice pictures you caught, the movement in the water is perfect! I also look forward to your videos now that summer is on your side of the globe. Here in Sweden we soon have winter, with cold and darkness ... but I look forward to snap some winter pictures :) Btw you dare fly your drone even though it's raining? Anyway thank you for sharing with us!
Thanks for that Bill, yeah I couldn't resist getting the drone out for a quick fly over the valley, it was so beautiful and I want to share that win the video. I dried the off the moment it brought it down. I must admit, I'm not really looking forward to summer here, I struggle with the heat and harsh light, it doesn't make for great landscape photography conditions. However, that's the beauty of RU-vid an it's viewers, it encourages me to get out and shoot what I can and provide the opportunity to share those experiences with you guys in the northern hemisphere sitting out winter...I think I'd much prefer to shoot where you are! :)
Great video, Adam, and a beautiful image despite the weather. Thank you for all your tips. One question, I think you mentioned that with the larger waterfalls in Iceland you used slower shutter speeds to blur the water. I am not quite sure why slower speeds are required for larger falls. Maybe you can explain? Many thanks and love your channel.
Thanks Tony, basically I explain that as it's bigger the water takes longer to fall and reach the bottom of the waterfall so I chose a slower shutter speed so the exposure takes longer. Check out the video mention - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WKObP7uIX1k.html
Great video mate, a spot I have yet to shoot when I'm in WA. How long is the walk in to the falls ? Google maps isn't terribly helpful, looks like a lot of dirt roads and 4WD tracks near it ? Will have to get down there next time I'm over. :)
Amazing Spring colors and the red bush rocks - wow! You can spend days in this one location and never feel fulfilled as a photographer. Well done mate. Lovely work and terrific drone footage which truly captures the essence of the Australian landscape.
Thanks Greg, I'm getting back into the groove of the Australian landscape and enjoying the challenges it brings along with it's unique beauty! I appreciate you comments mate! 👍
Thanks Andrew for another great in depth video. I absolutely love that you give the information about the filters and the explanation why those filters you use not the others. Looking forward to more in depth videos!
Yeah, winter started late but we've had plenty of rain in the last couple of months. Things are starting to warm up now though and summer is just around the corner, cheers Brian! 👍
Beautiful video, love the drone footage. Very useful tips! Definitely gonna keep that in mind the next time I visit a waterfall. Me and my bro just climbed a freezing waterfall for our vlog 😁
Andrew, it's nice to know you're going into Spring/Summer as we here in NY go into Fall/Winter. Your images of warm weather will be most welcome in mid-February! Beautiful location and images as always. Nice to have the drone in order to sail over the rest of the falls. I'm assuming there are no other access points beyond your view. Thank you again!
Thanks Miguel, I'm afraid you might be looking forward to it more than I am. I tend to struggle with landscapes in summer here in Australia, a combination of the heat and harsh light. I think I'd much rather the winter weather. Having said that, I'll do my best to find some summer landscapes for you to keep you warm. Your right there was no access that I could find beyond that point. One of the advantages of having a drone. It did look beautiful above the waterfall!
That waterfall is stunning! Back in OZ now then Andrew.. I loved your iceland Vlogs and also the Lake district, was absolute stunning! Best of luck with the youtube, watching your vlogs has made me start up my own youtube channel as I'm a landscape photographer to, I'm based in the south of England! Keep up the great work! :)
Good to see you continue Andrew, i just came back from Iceland where i was with this group of 11 Photographers. Next time i will go there alone as you did, in order to be able to think more about my images before i take them. You have inspired me to do so. Despite the fact that I took stunning images there, i am not really happy with the rush of a group. Although it was a fun time. I mentioned you to each of the photographers there, and asked them to check you out. As you mentioned to me before....i now have a lot of editing to do in order to post them on my instagram. Great image you took here in your home country, as alway's i like the saturated and vibrant look. I would minimize fly the drone in the rain though. Take Care.... Regards, Ben
great to see your latest episode Andrew. Some beautiful colour contrast in the image and you caught the mood of the sky just perfect as a backdrop of the waterfall. Thank you for the advice and for sharing your experience
I used the same song throughout the whole video, I get my music from Epidemic Sounds, this song was Until Now by August Wilhelmsson. Hope that helps! :)
Hello Andrew, that was a lovely image of the waterfall. The vignette ensured that the waterfall would sing - out! Thank you for sharing. Will you be doing any other collaborations with other vloggers in the future ???
Great image obtained in challenging conditions. Andrew the drone footage is very soft in the shadows & should be avoidable with +1 Sharpness setting to negate the in camera NR as per The Film Poets recommendation.
You have a way of converting what looks like a dreich scene into a magical one - Glencoe shots were also very good and you mentioned you hadn't much time, you excelled ! Thanks for even more inspiration and guidance it's appreciated. !
Went looking to go to these falls on the Weekend but the walk in put us off, seems a good slog to get to them from the where you can park, sweet image you captured Andrew
Another wonderfully informative vlog Andrew. To see those magnificent beaches virtually untouched, makes me wish to be back home. Reminds me of the beaches in Montana, amazing sand dunes and total solitude. Good job mate.
