Really like the images!! This channel is getting me out of midnight shooting, back into late afternoon/early evening (sun rise/set twilight hours) again. Unfortunately not near an ocean, so I have to settle for Arizona deserts. 18kgs (40 lbs for we Americans) is heavy. Just retired a couple of years ago. Pentax K1, FDA 15-30/f2.8, Voigtlander 20/f3.5, Zeiss ZK 25/2.8, K 28/f2.8 Shift, Contax/Zeiss 28/f2.8 Distagon and 85/f2.8 Sonnar (re-mounted from C/Y to K [Leitax]), FA 31/f1.8 Limited, SMC Takumar 50/f1.8, Auto Takumar 85/f1.8, DA* 60-250/f4 (rear light baffle modified for full frame), A 300/f4. An old Manfrotto 3001X tripod, Manfrotto 410 geared head, Acratech GP, Acratech Leveling base, RRS L Bracket, NN3 Pano head. I don't take everything all the time. I like to shoot Milky Way landscapes and now Pixel Shift (SuperResolution) landscapes. You are having a positive effect on me. Daylight is a lot easier to shoot than Oh dark hundred out in the desert.

HI io io. I am glad I am having a positive effect. LOL. Man you ahve some nice kit in your bag. I would LOVE to try a VOIGTLANDER lens. Your kit must nearly be as heavy as mine i reckon! 40lbs is heavy wherever in the world you are... Thanks for the comment and Regards Ewan

Wow! That’s some serious gear you’ve got! Hate to even consider lifting your bag - far less how much you’ve invested in it!! I only got back into photography last year and weight was a major consideration in deciding on what camera and lenses to buy. I ended up with a Canon 90D, 24-70 and 70-200mm lenses - and find these fairly heavy to lug around (I’m not as young as I used to be!). Fortunately, for times when I want even less weight I also got a Canon 200D with 18-55mm kit lens and that’s also a great wee camera for videos as it’s so light and easy to carry.

I find myself regularly lusting after new kit, especially the Fuji medium format mirrorless systems and then have to remember that I have spinal problems and arthritis affecting my neck, shoulders , elbows and knees. A good few years ago traded in my heavy Nikon gear for a fuji XPro 1 and 2 zooms. The weight reduction transformed my photography because i could carry my gear without too much pain that had prevented me from going out with my camera. I now shooting with a Fuji XT3, Fuji 15-55, 55-200 and 60mm macro (that's sometimes in my bag) and Samyang 12mm. I have 3, 6, 10 and 15 stop ND filters, CPL and reverse 3 stop grad and a couple of ND grads. I can comfortably print to A2 and bigger if I don't crop the prints. My bag is a hybrid type rucksack/camera bag that can also accommodate spare clothing, food and water. The bag is a little heavy but exceptionally comfortable and spreads the weight over my hips. When I find myself lusting after new heavy kit, I just stop taking my anti-inflammatory medication for a day and that soon brings me back to my senses.

Hey Tony. Sorry I havent replied to your comment sooner mate. I remember reading it and just simply forgot to answer i think. I have found the ability to see unanswered questions and comments in the youtube creator studio, and up popped your comment. Camera gear should be lighter, but often, sadly isnt, and i appear to be looking at new kit which is heavier than my current gear! Lucky i have my health! - ) Thanks for the interaction and sorry again for the delay. Regards, Ewan

Ewan, it was good to see what you use to get your beautiful images. When it is all packed up, what is the total weight you need to carry? I have just attended the Aperture photography conference in Sydney and they did a short review if the GFX100. Glenn Mckimmin is using one, he loves it. Glenn is the instigator of Aperture Conference started in 2018, he also owns a premier printing & framing business that was originally Ken Duncan’s. Glen said he was extremely impressed with the dynamic range and clarity. Looking forward to seeing your next episode. My kit starts with Canon 5DSR, Canon L series lenses; 17-40, 24-70 (the go to) 24-105 (least used) & the 70-200 f2.8 (very heavy) and aX2 extender. I use Lee 100 filter system with a variety of grad filters, x6 & 10 stop Filters, a 105 mm Lee polariser. Acratech levelling base, pano head, ball head. Manfrotto 055 carbon fibre tripod, Lowepro 450AW backpack. A lot of heavy gear but I’m willing to cary it. My back is getting old and wearing but I do it anyway 😁

Hey Phil - LOL - You have a heap of kit also!. M gear itself in the bag weighs 12.8 KGs and the remainder 5.4 kg is in the tripod set up. There is also the Vlogging gear which is another 3kgs so over 21kg in total. Im actuall lazy in one sense that i dont know what i am going to come across so end up not being brave... take EVERYTHING with me often. Not clever, buy any stretch of the imagination. I used to use Canon, and love the L glass quality and range of lenses. I have had a shot of processing the 5DSR files and i actually struggled with them a little, doe to the incredible resolution on the full frame sensor. Good for you on all your kit though! Thats awesome! All the best Ewan = )

@@EwanDunsmuirImages you use the zooms yes, the 45-85, the 80-160, I know you love them , what about the bigger zoom, 150-300 , is it any good ? in your opinion ?
@EwanDunsmuirImages
@EwanDunsmuirImages 4 года назад
@@gregoryhamilton6161 - I dont think that the build quality is as good as the 80/160, nor the 45/85. I dont think that f stop, for f stop, it is as sharp either, BUT what you are effectively doing os zooming on not just on the scene, but the detail - it doesnt actually need to be. For landscapes at f1 - f18, lets say, its more than sharp enough. Its not that sharp right off the bat, but it takes sharpening well. One option may be to stick with the 80-160 and go for the 2X convertor, which you should find for under $100. THE 150-300 however - is one cheap piece of zoom glass, and if its good enough for PENTAX... then it should be good enough for me LOL. Witht he 2X convertor - you lose the EXIF data transfer, but if thats not important for you - worth thinking about. Here is an image i took with the 150-300. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FZfAYt7J6M4.html

Wow. That was so interesting. I thought my bag was too heavy at 12 kilos! My camera is an 11 year old Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I would love to upgrade to the Mark IV but lack of finance means that is out of the question. Your choice of camera is awesome. You will never need to upgrade with that magnificent beast. Your huge framed prints look amazing. Thanks for a really interesting video.

Hi Wendy. 12 kilos IS HEAVY - I have just gone a bit daft with it all. I had the 5D Mk11 which was a the camera that broke the mould and revolutionised full frame cameras. Great piece of kit. The desire to buy new kit though is addictive... yet expensive as you say. I guess it all comes down to what your changeover price would be and what your output is (whether you print your images etc) I am however always looking at other gear too. (Hasselblad next time maybe)? Who knows. At least with your 5d4, you will be able to keep your lenses = ) Thanks for commenting and letting me know what you're using. Ewan = )

Some very nice kit Ewan - but don't think I'd wanna be lugging around best part of 20Kgs! Bit surprised that you don't have any lenses wider than 35mm. Certainly bucking current trends where landscape togs are shooting with 14mm & 16mm lenses. Perhaps the fact that you shoot panos enables you to get by without the ultra wide-angle lenses. Those UWA lenses certainly focus on the foreground though by stretching perspective.
@EwanDunsmuirImages
@EwanDunsmuirImages 5 лет назад
Thanks Victor. It keeps me fit - especially when I go on a massive 3 hour hike with it all! EEk. I looked at a 35mm 645 lens but felt, that because i print my stuff so big, I was staring to fall back into the "no detail in the far distance" trap which of course i can control with the longer lenses as you are zooming in on the detail too. I do like the format of longer lens panos - it gives me something i quite enjoy (but dont quite know what it is) . Thanks for the comment. Its always appreciated. Regards Ewan

All that I can say to this Ewan, (apart from saying it was good to see a new film) is I am burdened with exactly the same camera and weight and and I only have one person to blame for it...hmmm, I wonder who that is???? That being said, once tried, there is no going back to full frame for me, unless something radical happens! Interesting though what Wendy said in that we will never need to upgrade. I can't image ever needing to! I have the Lowepro 450AW so how you fit that lot in your bag is a mystery to me! Lowepro are an amazing company. I have had two of their bags from day one and they have replaced each one free of charge each time I have had a problem! They really do honour that lifetime guarantee! My 450AW was replaced last year and is the third bag I have had following the initial purchase!
@EwanDunsmuirImages
@EwanDunsmuirImages 5 лет назад
Thanks Simon. Who on earth could you be referring to!?... LOL (Sorry about that)! I think that nonce you swallow the initial cost of that move up to MF - its as easy to stay there as move back as new technology coming on line all the time, would probably involve a cost to move again also. But you like me Simon... you print big prints for clients so prob best to stay where you are! = ) Regards Wendy comment - id love to see the 100MPx but im not actually sure who it is for, whether i have any need for it which i seriously doubt, and at 15000 USD for the body alone... well that is the price of a decent car! Hi Andrew. havent used one but as i understand it, having spoken with people who have had and have used both, they way that the larger 40MPs render onto the CMOS sensor has a beautiful soft profile (which you would expect with the smaller PPI ratio). Hi Tony. Notwithstanding the limitations of Aluminium as a material - Its certainly Stable enough for the purposes I have and my camera and lenses are heavy. The real stability would come from the Arca Fit with your Ball head, 'jaw' and this seems to be a good fit with Arca Swiss standards. Again, the ball head i have ensures no movement, outwith the tolerances of aluminium. Hope that helps. Mengs items are available on Ebay and the likes! Kind regards, and good luck Ewan

I shoot with the same camera but my overall bag weight is really quite light as I only carry the 28-45, 55 and 90 lenses. I make do without longer focal lengths. I add weight if I want to take my K1 and 15-30 along as back up but for the most part 90% of my shots will be with the 645Z and the 28-45.
