Hey Simon - LOL. Anyone would think you were laid up in bed and were bored! Seriously though - these are some dam fine words Simon, and coming from you... Humbling!
Having visited New Zealand and Tasman Lake two years ago from the USA, your stunning images brought back beautiful memories of your wonderful country. Thank you.🙏
I don’t know what level is above a Master Craftsman, Grandmaster? Whatever it is you’ve surpassed even that. The content, your delivery and storytelling abilities are unique and unrivalled. From what you tell us it sounds as if you’ve been dealing with personal issues, I sincerely hope they have been resolved or adjusted to. Stay safe and stay passionate, I’ll be patiently waiting “‘til next time”.
HI Mike, many thanks for your kind, kind comments - much appreciated indeed! No personal issues as such, but more dealing with the consequences of personal decisions i make.. like deciding to do a Reno Project which has turned out to be bigger than Ben Hur himself! LOL Im all good though - I enjoy it! Hope you are well too! Regards, Ewan
As I sit here it's just gone 5am and the get up for a sunrise statement made me chuckle - it's bucketting down outside 😄 Great to hear that calming Scottish accent on video once more. I suppose the South Island is one big honeypoy location for photography, hence the day long jouney to Mount Cook National Park, it certainly looks it. I remember you breaking the vlogging camera. On any trip that would be a bummer but on somethig like this no wondr you felt quite low... but thank goodness for iphone filming eh... you have still managed to film snippets that has the atmosphere of the moment and add that to the stunning images captured it really was a joy to watch Ewan - when you come away with a couple of wall hangers you know its been a great shoot. The last 12 months or so has been a difficult journey wherever you are in the World and things we took for granted are now perecious moments we need to enjoy - I hope you are back out enjoying those moments with your camera more regularly & if its accompanied with a vlogging rig also all the better for us. Stay safe and I look forwad to the next one. atb Al
Nice work mate, this vlogging thing is not meant to be easy, otherwise everyone would be doing it. Despite your camera and the way you were feeling, you pushed through and received the rewards. A great lesson in that for all of us. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thank you so much for showing this ...it is always a bit like "coming home"! Your excellent video, your soft and warm voice and these lovely, wonderful pictures - it all fits and warm my heart! Never seen anything better!
HI Nathan. Always humbled to get such feedback. Really appreciate them, and its this very thing that keep us going with doing them! PS - You are welcome. Kind regards, Ewan
Gorgeous work Ewan. Nothing quite like experiencing the pure beauty of a sunrise, and being enveloped by its majesty. Glad you are posting again. I’m liking your nodal rail for pano work. Probably something I should buy, as I love a good pano.
Thanks Trev. Once you dial the lenses in and nodal points - you are away and it certainly helps. You are right though - Sunrises... Simply gobsmacking!
hi there. Thanks for t=your feedback. I use my little Canon m50 at 50fps and at 1080P. Keeps the profile flatter than trying 4K. I use a 55-250 UFS lens which is older glass and without firmware. I flatten off the profiles when i grade taking the highlights and some of the shadows out giving it a more analogue feel, which is what i do with my photography too. Hope that answers your question. Thanks again for your feedback. Regards, Ewan
HI James - long time no hear. Good to hear from you and some powerful words there coming from you! Hope you are well. Ill pop over to your channel in the next day or two to see what you have been up to lately too! You will need ot get over to NZ to do some of your landscape images here. Cheers james Ewan
So pleased to see you back Ewen. Your images are so inspiring. We are very lucky here in NZ the scenery is fantastic, but sometimes it breaks the Wow factor by huge amounts when the special light we get all comes together and rewards our early morning rises and fades our mishaps and lifes challenges.
Hi John. yeah, the camera... a little speed bump, but the day was saved by my good friend Ian Moore who loaned me a lens and an adapter! Many thanks for your kind comments too. = ) Ewan
Watching this has made my day, the light was so kind to you that day.(Beautiful images). I was there last in 2016, it was covered in cloud and raining, I only took a couple of handheld shots as the wind was so strong I could hardly stand LOL. I'm hoping to get back there in 2022, providing our Australian NZ boarders are then open again. I agree, the hardest part is getting out of bed at 04;00 when it's cold outside! Always inspiring to watch your VLOGS Ewan.
Many thanks Phil. I see Brett is over again just now and is also being treated to some nice conditions. Borders are open already - long may it stay that way! All the best. Ewan
Nobody paints a picture like the Lord God... and I must say there is a definite magnetism to your videos with your music combined with your calm narraration , you have a gift for sure
Hey Perry - many thanks indeed - these are such kind words. I pay as much time to the production in video as i do with the photographs themselves and re the music, timing, and narration - not too many people notice it, as there is a plethora of people doing videos on here. Each vid takes me about 40 hours to edit and grade, to get get to final production... hence the lack of them. Life is just too busy, but ill get back on the horse once life lets me catch up again! Best wished, and many thanks. Ewan
I'm sorry to hear about life getting in the way, but I was glad to see you pick up that camera again. Life is too short to not do for too long what our soul wants. I enjoyed every bit of the above video. I felt sad, really, when you lost your recording equipment and I felt happy when the lights flooded the lake in pure joy. Thanks for posting this video. Really.
Wht, thank you! Life is indeed too short and should live each day... like its your last! Re your quote - " lights flooded the lake in pure joy". Thats awesome! Only wish i had thought of that! Kindest regards, Ewan
Stunning images & superb choice of music just added to the great sense of wonderment that nature can display! You are absolutely right to grab the opportunities when you can despite the inevitable tensions involved. Good to see you back on the trail. Your insights are truly inspiring.
Thanks Andrew. Im so glad i went on this as the temptation was to NOT go Id have kicked myself though. The music.... well i poured over this for ages, and as always, splice and loop the music to make it all fit the tone of what im trying to achieve. Ewan
Oh Wow. I can only repeat what Alan has said already Ewan. It's an honour to watch you go about your journey. Your vlogs are spellbinding, Your quiet tone sets the scene of what is always an amazing trip through some of the most spectacular scenary on earth. I really feel like I'm stood beside you. Watching you go about your work. Composing the most amazing images. I applaud you sir. Glad the blogging camera is up and running again. Can't wait for the next video. Stay safe.
Hey Paul, hope you are well mate. May thanks for your kind words. Its good to be back and maybe shouldve left this video to the ned of the trip, as this component surely was as good as it gets. Regards Ewan
Thank you for a wonderful virtual experience. The ups and downs of life happen, and I was sorry to see you upset about the camera, as I would have also been, but you know in the big picture of life it is a chicken s**t, event and not worth a minute of angst. The vlog did so well on the i-phone that it didn't matter from a content point of view. Great to see you back and doing what you do so well.Thanks.
Hi there Andrew. Thanks goodness for smart phones indeed. I was more annoyed with myself than disappointed, and you are right. It doesnt really matter. A good friend of mine, came to the rescue with a lens to carry on with, which was awesome! Ewan
WOW WOW WOW 👏😍👌 Ewan that's absolutely beautiful well done. I'll be in I'll be on the South Island for 10 days in early October (🤞 Covid doesn't ruin it) & I'm hoping to stay at Mt Cook for 2 days your video has inspired me to get up early & try to capture the sunrise on Lake Tasman thank you. 🙂
Thanks very much Eric. Ill be in the south Island at that time too running a workshop, where ill also be at Mt Cook for a sunset and sunrise!! If you see me - be sure to say hello! Ewan
Stunning Ewan, best video I have watched in a while, now if that does not inspire people I don't know what will, simply brilliant (Puredeadbrilliant)! Thanks for sharing.
Top class as usual Ewan, stunning location and high quality images. I've said it before....best landscape photography film making on-line. Thank you for another superb film....inspiring!
Stunningaroonie! Dam how much you've been missed, mind you it does make me think why bother, just watch this on a loop. Love the light on the peak but overall I'd go for the slightly earlier one the tones and balance is awesome, the wee Sq plays a part too, very nice. With it being midsummer I don't need to go to bed for sunrise but in 5 attempts to shoot through the night every one had clouds roll in on the Firth. HeyHo, anyway I'm off to watch for the 4th time, so keep having fun lad.
LOL, thanks Andrew. Yeah, Im not sure which one i prefer - both are nice but only put the later one on Flickr, which got into 'InExplore' You carry on shooting buddy. We make our own luck i reckon! Thanks for all the views. LOL Ewan
Thank you for making these VLogs, love your work, your Voice and Footage...even if I do not understand every Word :) Your Workflow Video 3 Years ago was very helpful also. Soon I'll have watched all of your Videos so please make regular Content in the Future, I wish you Luck and Success.
Hey regen tag - thanks very much. I try and keep the dialogue slow so that i can at least be understood most of the time. Glad you enjoy these. Ill be sure and keep them coming
Ewan I stumbled across this video and love it, subscribed now… Near the ending you state “get up for a sunrise” which is what I’ve done the past two mornings after my own “absence” from photography. I’m trying to adapt to being retired, but I believe setting the alarm early will help. I really enjoy the quiet in the morning… Thank you for sharing your work.
HI Hugh - I appreciate your kind comments, and also your subscription. The subscription count, whilst not that important is a good indicator that your content lands properly. Good to have you on board! Enjoy retirement. Lucky you! LOL Ewan
Discovering the landscape beauty of a sunrise ....but dam its hard getting out of warm bed at 6am to face a -4 degree morning :) Your video you did on understand sunrise was of great help .....keep up great videos we appreciate them.
Morning Julian. Thanks mate. Location envy.... thats an ok envy to have tbh. Its such a stunning location . Hope you are all well mate. (was watching you and Chris on a vid in the fog, just last night! PS - The 12v printer IN THE CAR!? Pure dead genius! All the best J. Ewan
@@EwanDunsmuirImages Thanks mate - I've been to NZ twice, but never as a photographer. I'd be like a kid in a sweet shop! Thanks for watching my vid with Chris. I was a bit nervous about plugging in my printer to the car, but it was all good on paper. Fortunately it all worked out! lol
Lovely video already looking forward to the next one :) outstanding shots as always , can't wait to come home to NZ , its still too hard to come back might get locked in or locked out
Hey Christine. Many thanks. Ill get onto the prep for the next one soon... but they take me weeks to put together, given these complex timelines Hope you make it back soon!
New subscriber here, loved the video! That sunrise was all time! Wow what a moment to witness and cherish. Agree that Aoraki-Mount Cook National Park and especially that eastern side of it is just mind-blowingly beautiful. I dream of returning once the restrictions ease for us in Western Australia to get back across there.
Thanks Jordan. Nice that you know the location too. I was pretty lucky, and must have been Karma for me being patient with my clumsiness the day prior! Thanks very much for the subscription too. Thats always appreciated. Ewan
So good to see you back! Out of all the people doing these videos yours are the most enjoyable to watch 😊 your stuff has realy inspired my photography and help me build up my skills so I think you.
LOL, the pics were a good reflection of what i was witnessing. simply outstanding. The porridge?.... actually OK, especially when youa re ravenous and cold Regards, Ewan
Hey Thomas - Many thanks mate. My apologies - I was sure I had replied previously but seemed to have not! I appreciate you feedback and input. Kind regards, Ewan
So inspiring, I would imagine that many viewers watching this will be very happy that you picked up a camera again. The pano looking up the Tasman is stunning. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Tony, many thanks. The house project. Ill head off to paint some more once i have my coffee break to answer some comments = ) Its a slow process, but good therapy! Regards, Ewan
Hi Ewan: Wow. . . what a wonderful and powerful video! It is so great to see you images once again. This image is so engaging. We are coming back to New Zealand in 2023 and will have several days of exploring the south island. I hope that I can create my own images in the likeness that you display at all times. I can't wait to see the next video. Cheers, Keith (Canada)
Another fantastic vlog Ewan and beautiful images as always. Thanks for taking the time to showcase your trips and glad to see your perseverance paid off with a beautiful sunrise.
Now that's a good way to spend Saturday breakfast watching this. I'm unable to shoot a present, 3 damaged lumbar discs are getting in the way, but sunrise will soon be back on the agenda as my back recovers. As always superb images Ewan.
Beautiful storytelling and amazing images Ewan! I'm glad to see more films from you. I uploaded a video today too. I know right, it's been a while... It's not a landscape photo, but it has some incredible landscapes in it. 😊 Take care, Javier
Great video and images as always Ewan. I visited New Zealand in October 2018. During that trip I visited Mount Cook, Hookers Lake and the Tasman Glacier. I fell in love with the area. Unfortunately COVID had prevented a return trip. I can feel your anguish at the loss of the lens. I recently had the same thing happen. Getting filters out of my bag and I heard the crash behind me. Camera and lens totally wrecked. Not a pleasant experience. I have a question about your panorama workflow. You shoot in landscape orientation and only seem to shoot 1 row. Do you shoot multiple rows or just stick to one row? I shoot Canon APS-C and landscape gives me a very skinny image so I shoot portrait and take 6-7 images and then shoot a second and sometimes a third row to makes sure I get all the information I need. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe.
Hi JOhn. Thanks for the feedback mate. I usually only shoot one row, and I think i said in the Pano video that i did, I determine the vertical 'Y' Axis in terms of the composition capture i require, which in turn.. determines the lens focal length and coverage. I usually do this in vertical orientation, then go form left to right or VV to achieve the 'x" axis. Even printing large images, very rarely do i need more data than that and a 5 or 6 shot 'c size' pano would still give you 70mp of image at 50% overlap - so more than enough even for a 1.5m print = ) Hope that helps. Ewan
❤What a beautiful place. Sorry to hear about your camera. Funny how we will instinctively protect our camera over ourselves. I fell a few years back and broke my camera and was lost without it for several months. I kinda laugh at it now, the location was called Fall Brook Falls.
Many thanks Weibin. I do very few workshops and try to keep them limited as i enjoy the one to one or low number aspects of them as it keeps the thinking fresh. I am currently planning the itinerary for a 6 day workshop in the end of September covering Mount Cook, QT and Milford. The dates at this stage are 29th Sept - 5th Oct. Ill put details on Facebook. facebook.com/ewandunsmuirimages Kind regards, Ewan
the gods of photography paid you back in kind for tasman lake shots....because you broke your vlogging setup..I have been to tasman lake a few times being from Christchurch and Never had that sort of sky there or at hooker lake.......would be keen to see what workshops you end up setting up.
Hi Steve. Yes I sure was lucky this time, but even Epic on a dull day... so long as you can see past the end of the lens! LOL I am currently planning the itinerary for a 6 day workshop in the end of September covering Mount Cook, QT and Milford. The dates at this stage are 29th Sept - 5th Oct. Ill put details on Facebook. facebook.com/ewandunsmuirimages Kind regards, Ewan
That was the best 14 minutes and 39 seconds I have enjoyed today Ewan. Thank you. So nice to see you back online, and so nice to see those images. A stunningly beautiful place, captured and displayed in a stunning way. Hope you get the vlogging camera fixed okay and with minimal delay and cost. Thanks again for the enjoyment and inspiration.
