Landscapes in Shin-hanga
The Shin-hanga was started by a publisher Shozaburo Watanabe, who dreamed of reviving Japanese ukiyo-e prints, which had declined in modern times, and teamed up with painters, carvers, and printers. The landscapes captured by Shin-hanga artist are diverse, including snowy landscapes, waterfronts, rain,cities and mountains, all of which are beautiful and express delicate light and atmosphere.

近代以降、衰退していった日本の浮世絵版画の再興を夢見た渡邊庄三郎という一人の版元が、大正から昭和にかけ、絵師、彫師、摺師と組んで始めた“新版画”。新版画の画家たちによって写し取られた風景は、雪景色や水辺、雨、都市や山など、多岐に渡り、どれもが美しく、繊細な光や空気感が表現される。新版画の代表的な作家としては、川瀬巴水や高橋松亭、伊東深水、土屋光逸、吉田博、“最後の新版画”と称される笠松紫浪などの他に、フリッツ・カペラリ、チャールズ・バートレットなど外国人の画家も挙げられる。
