Further to the references to ones other half: while I was watching today's excellent episode, mine opened an eye from where she was napping on the sofa, and said, 'he's very calming' [as you were in the process of raiding the kitchen utensils] and promptly went back to sleep. Well of course mine's not bothered, I do all the cooking in this house and the kitchen is my domain. That's why I'm three years into planning my layout and still have nothing to show for it but a box of track!

I am the master of my kitchen and I have my own knives that my other half never ever uses. She has a set of knives that she uses on the rare occasions she does the cooking. I was making some hills for my little layout and thought I would use her carving knife, after all I have plenty of time to finish the job, wash and return the knife, the perfect crime. After the initial section my wife decided that she wanted a new chicken run and patio so my layout went onto the back burner. Fast forward a couple of months and we decide to clear out some of the junk our daughter had put in the garage. One problem, I had forgotten about the knife and as we cleared a work table, my wife spotted the offending item and I had some fast talking to do!

The hillside looks great 👍, love the attention to detail. As for suggestions for vids twofold I'm quiet interested in the wiring aspect for the point motors on the new section in particular the power supply you use and connecting everything up to I assume bus wires that go around the whole layout? Secondly I've been racking my brains at how to turn around a train locomotive, do you use a turnstile? Shunter? Or a custom section of track? And can it be automated in a dcc layout?

An outstanding presentation. Clear speaking and looking at the camera so I was able to lip-read. As an aside, I use top quality kitchen paper towels painted with 50/50 diluted PVA glue instead of Plaster cloth. Two layers over cardboard lattice formers and its amazingly strong once coated with full strength acrylic paint. I’ve even used it direct laid in layers in WS rock moulds - very easy to handle and no plaster dust. Working the texture with the end of the paint brush gives great rock face effects. I have “subscribed” and will be watching many more of your presentations. I have modelling since 1964!

Great kitchen skills Charlie, just make sure you don't get your rocks mixed up with the rock cakes by 'er in doors... LOL. At least if I come around for tea and the bums are a bit gritty I will know you've been using the shive again. Your defiantly a man of many talents. I wee tip I recently heard about is if you have anything stuck down with a hot glue gun and it is set. If you need to remove the glued item to another place or fix a wrongly placed or broken item. Then dab neat IPA around the edge of the glue and give it a few seconds to work its way under. The IPA will eventually separate the glue from the surface it is stuck down on. It is a good way to release and reuse objects without forcing them up with paint scrapers and damaging the items. Though I don't know if it works on all surface types.

Hi Charlie, That truly was a masterclass! I will be watching this again before trying anything similar myself. The rocks, and the paint on them, were very realistic. Thanks. Jim

Wow what a achievement in a few days, love the shadows and shade on the rocks this area is going. to look fantastic. Its nice to see some grass being put down without a static grass applicator. The amount I do doesn't warrant the investment. It must be quite a pressure to get out these videos, but I do enjoy them. You and your family stay safe don't be tempted out to soon Eddy xx

Again a masterclass of scenery. I really do enjoy the way you turn a handful of materials into something that looks amazing, and I'm sure it gives you immense satisfaction knowing you built it from scratch. I hope your wife is OK with you 'liberating' some of her kitchen utensils! Absolutely love the polo shirt & good choice for using a 'weathered one for the messy bit, and an 'ex-works' one to present the video. Really looking forward to the next video. Stay safe & take care.

Another great video. When your using pinkgrip etc, a good tip is to stick some kebab skewers at angles dotted around, down through the layers of celotex to lock them in place while it does it's thing. just cut them to length so the don't protrude from the surface. Colouring plaster products is great, you need to go twice as dark with the initial colour versus what you want the finish to look like, be it scupltamould or plaster of Paris. I've messed around quite a bit with this trying to make "muddy earth" that I could put wheel ruts & tyre tread marks in. Love the polo's now you have extra's to get paint n plaster on! lol I look forward to your Friday video's now, keep them coming!

I had watched this presentation previously and did so again yesterday, as it is almost time to commence some scenics on my N scale loft layout. Yet another superb production, informative and good humoured. That is one of the things that makes all your uploads so interesting. One can return to watch them again and again for tips, ideas and advice. That is also what makes your work such a valuable resource to other modellers and inspires us all to progress with our own railway projects. Thank you for that and I look forward to more of the same in 2022, but for now, Charlie, I wish yourself and your family a very Merry Christmas and a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year. All the best. Nige
