I'm pretty old now, and I can say that this has always happened in this area.New Zealand is a geologically young country and therefore more subject to erosion. It's a mountainous, wet area.

The land can only take so much after both (The Lord of the Rings) & (The Hobbit) franchises... Those landslides were probably caused by the giant earthworms!
