Directed by Florian Monot and Ludovic Chauchaix and produced by Lange and Dynastar, Eyes Wide Open is a story about evolution and continuity. Its hero is the Y: a legendary steep and daunting couloir running down the heart of La Meije, the second highest peak of the Écrins Range, erupting above the mythic town of La Grave, France.
The Y is also a shared story, one of mutual passion for the mountains and the fleeting moments they permit us. Joe Vallonne is a UIAGM mountain guide and ski alpinist, and likely the skier who’s tackled the Y more times than any other. Pierre-Louis Cret is a young man still learning about the mountains, and mountain guiding, who dreams of one day skiing the Y.
