I am a Aikido Keikonin/practitioner and a Aikidoka. And I am also a Daito Ryu practitioner… as a RU-vidr myself with my own channel I cannot say anything else than.. that you have an amazing channel. I really love your videos and love the musics you are using. Of course I have subscribed to your channel because it is nice to help each other.. especially when we are also fellow RU-vidrs. I live in Sardinia/Italy.. and I hope to meet you someday so I may train with you 🙏🙏

Thank you so much for your kind words - please shoot us a message if you should ever happen to be around Cologne. As will we in return should our ways lead us to Sardinia. :) Cheers, Ulrik

It has kinda more similarity with the Long Sword than with Saber Fencing. Hmm... 🤔

Well, yes. The Messer is not exactly a sabre. The sources we have available dedicated to Messer are in general much closer to long sword than any "typical" one-handed systems. :)

@Dei Freifechter - are there any mechanical differences between Meyer and Lekuchner?
@die.freifechter
@die.freifechter Год назад
Very interesting question, thank you for that - and sorry for the late reply. It's a bit tough to answer, because technically both Lecküchner and Meyer derivate from or have their foundation in Liechtenauer. On top of that neither Meyer nor Lecküchner include an extensive amount of basic movement patterns, footwork or mechanics. So most we have are the plates/drawings, which by themselves prove as a challenge since we simply don't know how much they are deliberately exaggerated to showcase special details on occasion. It all comes down to interpretation of texts in combination with provided depictions. That being said, the obvious differences would be that Meyer generally has a more forward-orientied stance than what we see in Lecküchner and given the fact that Lecküchner works with thrusts and presenting the point much more often (versus almost never in Meyer's dussack) we could argue line control and working from the bind / winding against the blade is more important in Lecküchner.

Thanks for your work, filming and sharing this. May you tell me the model of the messer you are using on the video, I mean at least the length of it. Beautiful art, thanks again.

Thank you! This is an alu messer made by Walter Neubauer. It's 82cm overall, 62cm in blade and 20cm hilt.

@@die.freifechter thanks for the response. It's amazing, your messer has the same stats that The Soldat, from Albion. Is that a standard for this particular style?
@die.freifechter
@die.freifechter 3 года назад
@@cristobalvergara488 I wouldn't go so far to call it standard. Historically speaking, there was a wide range of different shapes. Even the manuscripts show huge variations in depictions. That being said, most Messers tend to be a bit shorter than your "standard" side/arming sword. :) Cheers, Ulrik

@@die.freifechter Thanks again. There's a new discussion topic about the great influence of Messer and Dussack treatises in the later development of the military fencing schools and styles. Your response has been very illustrative. Kind regards.

where i can find some traduccion of leckuchner book?
@die.freifechter
@die.freifechter 2 года назад
Generally the best place to start is Wiktenauer: www.wiktenauer.com/wiki/Johannes_Leck%C3%BCchner In the "Treatise" you can find the different versions, plus some translations.
