Langtry lies where true desert begins as you head west across Texas off hwy. 90. Situated along the Mexico border it has the flavor and beauty of the wild west, and is a great place to stop on the way to Big Bend NP.

Amazing that the home of the original Torres family was not saved or restored. They were a huge part of Langtry's history.

Judge Roy Bean claimed to have named Langtry after famous British actress Lillie Langtry whom he was a fan of. The Jersey Lillie Saloon, the building with the medallion featured in one of your first scenes, was definitely named after Lillie. In the 60's British rock band, The Who, did a song called "Pictures of Lily" which was inspired by Lillie. Lillie eventually visited the town in 1904, but Bean did not get to meet her as he had passed away less than a year before her visit. I'm hoping one day I get to make a trip there myself.

⛔FYI: I believe the "bricks" used to build those houses are called: "Adobe". (a compound made out of mud and grass) ... Pretty common to those used on old Pueblos of Mexico😎

I actually have a small connection to Judge Bean. Bean briefly worked for the older brother of my G-g-g-grandfather before he became the law west of the Pecos. I’ve never visited Langtry, but now I feel I want to!

I hope to find your way out there soon. It's one of my favorite areas of Texas for some reason. I think it has the potential to be a cool little tourist town if the right folks got involved.

This town even has overnight RV parking which is good since there's not many places along the highway.

I wish they would have left it more like it was in the 70s rather than creating a tourist attraction.

Interesting, there is no wall in that area. To be honest, a wall would also destroy this entire landscape and would probably have a huge effect on the wildlife as well. Who knows what will happen. Do you have any videos of Del Río? Or not a town that is worth visiting?

Del Rio is usually a place I stop on the way to hike a canyon, but I'll look into it. It's the gateway to SW Texas
