I played a few games with it and had the parry timing down to at least 4/5 blocks including on my friend 1v1ing, it’s a little bit harder than longsword but you need to preemptively release block and start the parry early because of the large hit box being active after you release the button and also during the riposte. It’s super fun and a cool design but I don’t think it will replace longsword due to how much you slow down while blocking, miles slower than the buckler as well. Also shield bash not using the spiked gauntlet or retractable blade was disappointing :(
I would say the idea of the lantern shield is insane but in practicality it does less than the longsword in terms of damage and easy of use just because the time given to riposte off of a parry is very low, the lantern shield having 5 block resistance is too high to actually use the riposte on anything other than 2 handers. I really hope it doesn't go to live being the way it is or it's just gonna be another stat stick, as Oggieson pointed out in my thread the other day they really need to normalize the time given to riposte off of a parry, thoughts?
I was so pumped when the lateen shield was datamined, but after testing I snapped back to reality. Parry and shields are broken because of shit tier hit boxes not appearing until the end of the swing animation. There’s no consistency. Coupled with being forced not to take shield mastery. This game is cooked, and it tastes bad. Too many incoherent systems conflicting with fun.
@@Sparkykawa yeah the desync can be rough. But honestly I would take desync over these hitboxes. They at least want to fix the desync problem. It seems like hitboxes ruining melee combat is just not on their radar. The whole looking down and crouching while your swing starts up with the felling axe to hit your opponents feet under the shield because the felling axe head doesn’t actually have a hit box until the last second and phases through the shield needs to be fixed. More repost options, their desire to fix desync, more maps, arena, or more health isn’t changing that. And it’s not just the felling axe. You cant get too close to the startup for longswords or you risk the sword phasing through the middle of the shield.
@@Sparkykawa 100% agree. and to be clear I think they’re broken as in, not viable. So yeah longsword would see a huge buff, but honestly more reasons to play the truest skill expressive weapons in the game isn’t a bad thing. I’m starting to wonder what the downsides of removing weapon collision on walls would be. I can’t really think of any
