I bought the game right after viewing your great playthrough ! You put so much vitality into it, it was almost like i was watching a movie 😊. Great job @ZillaBlitz and thanks for such well done videos ! This will kill my bank account but anyway 😅
Wasn't sure I would enjoy watching someone play a wargame board game...but, you did an excellent job of ramping up the excitement in the play-by-play commentary. Well done. Looking forward to the 3rd wave.
Thanks, David! I was leaning toward playing blind, and it seems to be the people's will too, so that's what we'll do. Hoping to start shooting in a few minutes. :)
Thanks, nick! And blind it will be, for sure. I feel like even though it'll be blind that we're in decent shape because we've taken out 3 of the German machine guns, have a good bit of machine gun ammo left, and still have most of our booby traps in place.
Thanks, yes, I was 80% there already before asking, but it's good to hear the chorus of confirmations. I hope to film Episode 3 tonight, publish this weekend if all goes well.
Another great episode and watching this on mums TV while having my Sunday Breakfast so double bonus for me! Really enjoying this series and I reckon go blind. Oh I was wondering if I was actually given a gun lol or was it just those inspiring pom poms 😂 good to see I do have one.
Glad you liked it! And yeah, some soldiers have very specific roles in the game. The inspiration ability is so powerful, and only works if you're rested and fresh, so it really makes the most sense to give you pom poms and off you go! Thank you for your service! :)
I did a thing, yaaay! This is very fun to watch! I think you should do the next round blind. That will add to the drama. I know it's very likely to lose the game that way, but I would be excited for a fail, too!
Yes, I think that makes the most sense. Even though it's blind, I think we're coming through the first two waves in good shape, so it'll be interesting to see how Wave 3 plays out.
Excellent game even though I am not in a lot of the action, the way you narrate it made me imagine I am really there, I feel the excitement lol 😂 cheers 🍻
Yes, I wish there were something I could do to balance things out a bit, but some roles are lesser and more supportive than others, for sure. But glad you are enjoying it! :)
What a great game, Zilla! Five kills for me and another Purple Heart, so far. A couple more wounds and I’ll need a blood transfusion. As for the question at the end, I say play blind. Don’t analyze the deck, just react to whatever comes up.
Nice work, for sure! Medal of Honor level stuff, with the kills and the wounds! Yep, seems like the early vote is going blind as well, and that's my inclination. I think it might make for our last wave, but it'll be an interesting attempt! :)
Blind for me, really enjoying your playthrough, just ordered the game 😀 Quick question though, in your opinion, does knowing the cards per attack wave, mean that there is limited replayability, or are you having just as much fun with the insider knowledge, thanks
Thanks, Keith, and that's a really good question, one I've been thinking a lot about as I've been playing. I think the final answer to the question is a bit complicated, and may involve the next level of gameplay, which is the addition of the Tactics cards.
Thanks for another episode! I was wondering: how do you keep track of game state between sessions? Do you take a photo with your phone and then re-build the previous state, or do you keep the game set up until the next session?
It's fun to make, R P, you're welcome. :) I just leave everything set up, but I usually take a photo of everything if I know I can't play for a while, just in case something gets bumped around. At times I've had to look back at previous videos, though, when I didn't have a picture and I know something got messed up. Usually the previous episode will show enough. :)
This fantastic playthrough inspired me to buy the game. I'm playing my first game, and the rules state that no defenders can begin the second attack period in positions 2, 3, and 1 on the left flank. I see you have defenders from the previous phase remaining in those spots; do the rules apply to moving new defenders into those positions?
Hi Tray - Thanks and happy to help! The shapes + numbers is a distinction on that rule. The 2 and 3 are circled numbers, and the 1 is the pentagon, so those positions aren't on the left flank, but are behind the US lines, up by where the jeeps are. Hope this helps. :)
Yes, we missed on a good bit of our long odds shots, but the ones we would expect to make we pretty much made all of them, which was fortunate. It would have been nice for our artillery to hit, and for their mortars to miss our jeeps, but oh well, can't have all the luck. :)
Seems like the Germans are only targets and have no support other than the MG? The US seems to be able to easily shift from position to position to meet any threat. Also the US only suffers wounds which seem easy to rectify. Lastly did I mistakenly here you say "her" when you were talking about one of the US soldiers? I was unaware of any front line US female personal in WW 2. Please note I watched most of the video but may have missed something.
Hi John! - If the Germans reach the US positions, they will attack the soldiers there, and the mortars can mess us up pretty good too. Historically, the US only had 1 KIA yet pretty much everyone wounded in the battle, so the game model seems to reflect this pretty well. I feel like we did pretty well in this wave. The shuffling of Parkera, with his Inspiration rating, made a huge difference in us being able to hit things. That idea seemed to work pretty well. Also, since this was the second time through I knew where everyone is attacking, which makes a big difference. I suspect the addition of the Tactics cards to gameplay (optional rule) will bring back some of the uncertainty to the attacks once you've played through things one time. We've substituted channel viewers who watch the channel for the real US names. Two are female. :) Thanks for stopping in!
Definitely enjoying this Play-Through, and have sent the link to my son, so that he can share with my 13yo grandson, for whom I have just purchased this as his first "real wargame." The only thing I don't appreciate is all your "intel" comments of the enemy's potential everywhere and your god-like knowledge of what is coming - that's just too gamey for me and kind of spoils the narrative of gameplay. Otherwise, really well-made example of play!
37:25 you can simply increase the possibility to hit the machine gun if you would like to increase the bigger pressure on it especially when you cannot use inspiration. Just us 2 ammunition round even 3 at once (over 3 the MG can be overheated and its a risk) but to use 2xD12 or 3xD12 during one major action is always a huge chance to eliminate the MG-42. Many players are not using this advantage how the US MGs´ can shoot and it is very good explained at 17th Page of Rules-see game example especially under the explanation of rules No. 3 and also No. 4. It think that you have plenty of MG ammo which was so far conserved very good so why not to use the advantage from rules if there are any? I would do just right now. So at least 2 ammo chips for one major action would be great in this situation. Also it would be fruitful to use the above-mention action in the situation 39:58 (2 rounds=2xD10 dices and 1xD10 from inspiration by the leader, total=3xD10) & 42:26, too.
The gameplay does shift a good bit after you've played a wave the first time. I played a game before this one where I got to the end of the second wave. The next wave I have not played previously and won't be looking, so outside of a few hints from the battle description and rules, I'll know a lot less next episode. :)
