Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy 

I had the surgery done on 4/21/14 and today is 4/30/14 and I have already lost 27 pounds, its working great so far.

This has made my mind up watching this video.I cannot wait to have the sleeve done . Thanks for sharing

This procedure is so awesome and minimally invasive.I have one question though. Will the greater omentum reattach itself to the remaining part of the stomach without stitching it back on?

The minimum BMI is 35-40. That usually works out to a weight greater than 230 pounds for an average height person. Patients typically stay in the hospital overnight and go home the next day.

It's been interesting watching the vsg being done. I will be having my vsg in Jan. 2015. I've had to previous laproscopic surgeries in the past, so I know what to expect. I'm on the thinner side of the fence as far as weight goes. Sheding 50-60lbs. is nice, but my main concern is an improvement in my IDDM. To get off insulin and perhaps the meds as well, would make me VERY happy.

Were there a few loose staples just lying in the body? Did he remove those?

I haven't finished all your videos yet, but I was curious about the smoke or water? The particles I saw floating around 3:15? The cautery would cause smoke, right? Sorry if you answered in another video. I'm off to watch more. Thanks for posting.

The stomach has a very rich blood supply, so removing the greater omentum doesn't affect the viability of the stomach.

I typically perform this surgery in 35 - 40 minutes.

2 mths & counting till I have my op, I have bought a book to keep track of my life changing op..... I have watched this clip about ??? 20 time, I reckon I could do this op blind folded..... :-)

do you sew along the staple line or add clips and glue for extra protection from leaks? also do you use a drainage tube? if so why and if not why?

I was wondering the same thing ... the staple line looked like it might throw some staples out at some point too.

My mom is 360 lb and 5'6" is that a problem. This surgery is nice and neat.

in laparoscopic procedures, the abdominal cavity is inflated with c02.

my doctors WANT me to have one ( they say my weight is slowly killing me and a medical managed diet hasn't helped) needless to say I am a bit aprehensive about it.. any advice?

What was the part that was hanging down in the beginning right after inflating the stomach? was that coming from the belly button? Also, it was really cool to see that this is what was done to me. I had my sleeve done on 4/29/13 and im down 80lbs so far. 376 to 295.2lbs

Why is there so much space in the abdominal cavity?

For the five day pre op... why isnit five day and not two to three days and what do you do id a patient cant drink those shakes

Isn't it dangerous to cut the omentum ? Isn't there the possibility of stopping the blood supply to the stomach by cutting its arteries ?

They do not do any harm.

Sometimes it will re-adhear, but it is not essential.

you will prob need a refferal to a Bariatric surgeon. they do these and other weight loss surgeries.

hat if you have ALOT of abdominal adhesions and a hernia mesh? yet have many obesity caused health issues( like me).? I even have to sleep SITTING UP... CPAP was worthless and laying down I smother. yes.. it's from being obese.
