Having stayed at Lapland Hotels Sky Ounasvaara several times previously, it was a great place to call home for my few days in Rovaniemi.
This video shows the hotel on the top of the fell (hill), it is very well blended with the surrounding woods.
On the roof there is the Aurora Terrace which provides great 360 degree views of Rovaniemi, the Ounasvaara Ski Fields and local woods, whilst it is 24hr Sunshine at the moment (June/July) during the colder months, when the Aurora's are on display, they can be seen without having to drive out of town.
The lobby area features a fireplace, and plenty of comfortable seating to chill out, or catch up with friends and family. FYI, the Hot Chocolate drinks from the bar are sensational.
The room I stayed in was the basic Northern Comfort room, there is plenty of storage space, the furnishings give a warm home like feel, and whilst the window allows plenty of natural light in, the thick blinds are just as effective blocking out the Midnight Sun. During Summer all rooms have an air conditioner in place (not there during the colder months).
The bathroom features everything that is needed, and the heated floor is appreciated, especially first thing in the morning.
Breakfast which is included in most rates, is upstairs in the Sky Kitchen & View restaurant, and what is offered is fantastic... especially the made to order omelettes, and the pickled salmon should not be missed.
Dinner in the restaurant is a must as well.
