@@anon12352 from my understanding she has normally a better internet since she referred to her WiFi as "free" WiFi. But I think she is also moving because of internet so I don't really know the actual circumstances. If someone knows then please let me know.

Well, in Japan it's kinda troublesome to setup an internet cable. In La+ case, she explained it was because her landlord did not allow her to setup a LAN there. So she will move out probably within one month.

She mentioned in her stream few days after this incident(she also explained she accidentally exposed Botan's new unreleased outfit but it was due to technical problem) that her landlord didn't approve her request to setup LAN in her room, so she's going to move. Few days later when Lui went to her room to make her miso soup, their conversation mentioned her streaming was all "red" at that time (means it was very laggy). I usually use roaming service when travelling in Japan so I'm not really sure if Japan's WiFi will limit the bandwidth when reached your purchased plan. In her recent streaming like Minecraft or Utawaku, it seemed sometimes her connection was not good too. So I think she's more likely streaming at her home

It really depends on the stability of the internet and ping as well, a stable 5mbps with no fluctuation could at least provide a smooth youtube video around 720p while a fluctuating 5mbps will lag even when playing a 360p video and downloading.

My friend said that some locations are pretty bad, and although JP is known to have very fast internet, that's only for the upper end of the spectrum. A lot of locations are pretty mediocre. I think as 5G rolls out across the world, this will be a problem of the past. Supposed to be better than NBN in some cases

Laplus is on her building's Internet access (thus the "free WiFi"), which is very likely copper-wired aDSL (thus the 5/0.5 kbps down/up speed), using the phone lines to get "broadband". She's either at the end of the line to only get 5 mbps, or her building is strictly splitting the bandwidth between the tenants, so for 1 aDSL line, there's 5-6 households on it. Given her landlord refused to get FFTX to the building (either FFTB or FFTH), Laplus will have to move to a different place to finally get proper speed. The problem here is not "WiFi vs Ethernet", it's "aDSL vs FFTX". PS: the actual *WiFi technology is perfectly fine for high speed Internet,* with 802.11n you can get _actual_ 50 (2.4 GHz only) to 80 mbps (mixed 2.4/5 GHz), with 802.11ac it can get actual over 100 mbps. To stream in 1080p60 on RU-vid, you only need between 5 to 7 mbps upload, so even in 802.11n in 2.4 GHz, it would be largely enough (10 times the requirement). The only noticeable downside of WiFi over wired ethernet is *latency fluctuation.* Depending on the router, Wi-Fi card on the device and the distance between the two (signal strength), it could add from 2 to 15 ms of latency. For many MP games it is largely tolerable, but for timing-sensitive ones (rhythm, racing, fighting, shooting) or games with poor netcode, the latency *fluctuations* can worsen the game experience, as the player will have trouble adapting to the ever-changing delay between their inputs and the game's reaction. It can become a critical element when latency is already an inevitable problem, like when playing from a different region of the world as the host - like during collabs with HoloEN. With Tokyo-West Coast already at 150 ms (180 ms for East Coast), on top of the PC latency (from the inbound network packets, CPU calculation, GPU rendering, frame buffer), to the display latency (pixels response and such), being able to reliably shave 10-15 ms right off the bat is a big deal. That's why HoloEN members should definitely get both their PC and Switch dock on wired Ethernet (if they haven't already).

@@rdxzero 5G will not change much to the rural area Internet access, it's for short range low obstacle very high speed connection. Smaller towns and people living inside suburb buildings will not get a 5G signal at home. What's gonna improve their home Internet access will be fiber deployment between cities, with FFTN available to more households. We can also expect that the investment in 5G in big cities will also result in better 4G equipment being deployed in less populated areas, but that's mostly wishful thinking unless the japanese gov get the telco to do it using tax incentives.

@@rdrisms Cover corp is a rather typical company in Japan: - a bit of modern tech (Live2D), - a bit of traditionality (hierarchical management, practically exclusively Japan-oriented, official 'idol-like' entertainment) - a "good enough" mentality (initially quite innovative, then slow release of new models, very little upgrades to the tracking, no in-house innovation for new content, because as long as it works it's easier to not change anything). So while Cover improved their scouting abilities over the years, their background check is still lacking, while their support of the talents is still barebone: - no dedicated tech support = talents have to troubleshoot and fix all their issues themselves. - no hardware logistical support = talents have to acquire their beefy PC themselves, it's not Cover handling that and making sure their talents got all the hardware they need. - no systematic mental and physical health policy = talents experience breakdowns due to overwork/pressure not so rarely, managers individually negotiate breaks with the talents (who are terrified of taking breaks) so depending on the staff it can vary quite a lot, no post-break special support (marketing, special show, funded project) to entice them to take these breaks, etc. - no known housing support (a huge challenge in Japan: good luck renting anything with "streamer" as your job description), so the talents have to fend for themselves to get closer to Tokyo (for the studio works, socializing with other Holomems, etc). So it's not surprising Cover didn't check if all their talents had a speedy land Internet access, a backup mobile data plan, and a stable housing situation (having to move between the homes of parents/grandparents/aunts-uncles because of family business, college or having to attend studio sessions = not having proper broadband at all time). That's strange but that's how it rolls for many companies in Japan: capable of making a massive idol show with 3D tracking, but not ensuring their talents got the necessary bandwidth to stream reliably.
