La chanson Je suis malade est inspirée d'un vrai chagrin d'amour de Serge Lama, l'histoire d'une relation longtemps secrète. En 1969, le chanteur rencontre, à Chamonix, Michèle Potier. L'amour s'impose comme une certitude, mais ils ne sont libres ni l'un ni l'autre : lui a épousé en 1968 Daisy Brun son attachée de presse, elle est mariée et mère d'un petit garçon. Ils s'aiment en secret durant plusieurs années et se promettent de recouvrer leurs libertés, mais Michèle hésite et finalement le fuit et s'installe au Maroc pour des raisons professionnelles. Lama est désespéré, il veut mettre des mots sur sa douleur sans y parvenir, jusqu'au jour où il se confie à son amie Alice Dona : « cette histoire me fait mal, ça me rend malade ». Rentrée chez elle, au piano, Alice Dona, compose en quelques heures une mélodie [...], que très vite, elle fait écouter au chanteur. C'est une révélation et Serge Lama écrit d'un jet la quasi totalité du texte3. Il dira plus tard « Les 80% de la chanson je les ai écrits en 20 minutes, c'est presque une honte.[...] ça m'est tellement sorti du cœur que j'ai [..] tout de suite senti que cette chanson avait quelque chose que les autres n'avaient pas. ». Le grand Serge Lama... The song I'm Sick is inspired by a real heartache of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship. In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. There's a duet she made with another great singer called Maurane, who was a friend of her, called "tu es mon autre" ("you're my other") and their voices together it is very beautiful ! Sadly Maurane died a few years ago, making the song even more meaningful now as it is about friendship/sisterhood/love between the two of them.

I’ve been a fan decades ago and she is absolutely considering her 25 years of vocals in 12 languages ( there’s a video “ Lara Fabian sings in 12 languages). The best female vocalist in the world. None even come close. Does Mariah, did Whitney, Streisand, Morissette, Celine belt them with emotional power in 12 languages? Also she wrote “ Adagio” “ Broken Vow” She also acts them out with her body. She embodies the songs. By the way , “ Lara With Love” is my favorite live concert of all time. Not just Lara’s but no better concert in the history of concerts. There are at least 6 songs from this concert that are beyond amazing. All love, Al

This is one of the many songs why I have remained a fan of Lara's for twenty years and counting. There is no singer-songwriter like her. I love how she totally dives into the lyric of her songs and her past experiences to bring the lyrics to life. It is a rare quality. French, English or any other language she sings in, the emotional resonance of her performance is felt.
