What broke my young heart in 1966 was watching Lara walk by while Doctor Zhivago lay dying on the sidewalk. What a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet personified.
Fell in love with Julie Christie when I saw this movie.Met a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes like hers. We married in 1973. We were married for 34 years. Lost her to breast cancer in 2007. My heart and spirit are still broken.
time passes us by so very quickly and only after it passes do we come to realize this. I remember years ago when my company told me your retirement day is on your birthday in 2007.. I was 21 at the time. now 2007 is 13 years in the past. I'm so sorry for your loss, sir...
This will always be my favorite movie and song. I'm 74 now and still stops me in my tracks when I hear it. Takes me back to young days and this personified love.
I am an 88 year old yank that developed a crush on Lara Andropov the first time I viewed this film in 1967. This piano version of her theme is bookmarked on my computer. Julie Christi will always embody Lara! God speed girl!
Interestingly- owing to the book being banned in the USSR- a copy was smuggled out to friends of the family who had emigrated to Italy- they got it translated into Italian, and that was the first published and available for sale edition. It was only in Gorbachev's time that Boris Pasternak's granddaughter was able to pick up him Nobel Prize on his behalf, with Gorbachev's approval.
My parents gave me a music box for Christmas when I was a little girl that played this beautiful song when you opened it up. When I finally saw the movies years later as an adult, that gift became even more special to me. I still have it to this day🥲❤️
I am 73 years, I am blessed to sing to my twin grand kids, they love the tune , Thanks Mr DL, Mr O Sherif, Ms Chaplin, and most of all LARA. I felt in love with you.....
Thank you God, for blessing me with healthy ears and sensitivity to appreciate such a beautiful music. One of the most beautiful songs ever written ....
This song remains my absolute favourite 🥰 I had it played at my wedding 42 years ago...the lady who played the organ, at my wedding, practiced it specially 🥰
Doctor Zhivago must be the most memorable film of the 20th century, for the story, the cast, the acting, the amazing scenic views, and the musical soundtrack! This piece of music typifies the whole film. .
I'm American woman from Fort Worth, Texas. This is one of the greatest love stories of all time. I just watched this movie for the first time today.Beautiful.This movie shows the reality of life as primitive and rude as it is. It never gets old !!...
I saw it when it was first released. Tell you what I'm an emotional guy and the end of it absolutely blew me away. I did not expect it to end like that. Two gorgeous people helped...
Impossible to separate this movie from this music! A few years ago I met a woman named Lara on a ski lift.. I told her the only time I had ever seen that spelling was this movie. She said her mother was a big fan and named her after it. Brought a tear to my eye.
This movie is a truly A list. This was my mother's favorite movie. I believe I have watched it at least 35 or more times and it never ever gets old. Your heat aches for Dr. Zhivago and Laura. Absolutely a true master piece

I saw this movie when it came out and went home and told my Mom about it She started to cry and it wasn't until then I found she and her family came out of the Ukraine on those trains at that time. Then it was my turn to cry. That's when I realized why she was so strong and devoted to her family. I miss her terribly.
I fell in love with Julie when I lived in London in 62 /63 when I was on the tube and saw her face my life lit up she was only on posters small things but I will never ever forget thanks ❤️
You may have seen her in "Billy Liar" (1963). If not, watch this clip ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w0p9xpOHPUE.html and try to get hold of the whole movie.
When I was young I identified with Lara. Now that I’m older, a wife and a mother, I feel for Tanya. Working so hard to recieve back the love she gives.
I play this song as it my mother favorite, she had the original soundtrack which she adored! When she passed I now play it as it gives me warm fond memories ❤️❤️❤️
Everytime I heard this beautiful master piece, seeing something about Dr. Zhivago movie, my heart leaps remembering my mother who passed away 4 years ago, these were her favorite movie and musical melody, I have only memories of it but they're so sweet as she was here on Earth.
I watch this movie about once every 5 or 6 years and it (in my opinion) can only be watched in the winter months. It's a beautiful winter movie. I also play Lara's theme every New Years Eve and is part of my New Years tradition
Ditto. My mother's as well. But I have to confess. I reread the novel and saw the movie several times before I realized the love story in both wasn't about Lara but about the love Russians have for Russia.
@@johnbaker3016 Of course, Julie Christie in furs was good to look at. So many years ago now. But the picture on the book draws your eyes into her even now.
I fell in love with this movie long time ago ..Nobody from my generation then understood how this could be my favourite movie ... I thought it was so because I was just different, an old soul in a young body 🙂 and this movie made me to romatically expect the same type of love in real life... unfortunately...it never happened to me ,at least not in this way ..🙂 all the same , this movie showed me something deeper...a different kind of love ,life ,passion, loss ... for me its a masterpiece and each time I see it ,I feel the same ....in love with life .🙂
Completely agree with you. It is a masterpiece that criticized the Russian political circumstances but honoured the Russian people and their deep souls. Beautiful ! Very well done....seems almost impossible today...
This movie set my concept of what True love could be. The emotional connection at the deepest level. The soul mate concept. It became real for me all through my young adult years. We were inseparable. It was the 70s we just knew there would be end. God blessed me and I will always be grateful for those times.
Saw the film in my teens,. Still my most moving film. Tragedy, politics, cruelty and ideal love we are capable of. A few years after seeing this film my life was blessed to meet what became a friend, mentor and role -- even looked like Omar Sharif. A scientist, artist, philosopher, humanitarian, idealist. If one is open, this film reaches and moves core dimensions. Thanks for reminding beauty through frosted window pane. Even in tragedy and want, there is beauty and inspiration. Thanks for posting.
This movie, this theme music, is absolutely amazing and classic. Always loved it, always thought it was beautiful, ever since young years, being from former Soviet Union, my parents watched it many times and entire family loved it. Years later when I was doing some DJing, I played this one on numerous occasions, because this music appeals to any crowd and so beautiful.
I was about age 7 when I saw this movie. It was the first love story I had ever seen. I fell in love with Julie Christie from that very night. I dreamed about her for years. I was always rescuing her in my dreams in one way or another. Now at age 74, I dream of rescuing folks from Covid. Dastardly disease!
Please help distribute, do the math Einstein. This movie was made in1965. You said you saw the movie when you were 7 years old and you're 74 years old now. That means you saw this movie in 1953. Are you a time traveler? .
@@stevemelancon6207 I know. I was wondering as I saw the film in high school and I'm 68. I had to do the math(s). Like Lawrence of Arabia it had an overture (also David Lean, Maurice Jarre). I'm sorry this type of epic film is now history.
Time moves on... I will always love this movie. I've seen it so many times it's unreal! My homages to you, Monsieur Maurice Jarre, and to you, Mr. David Lean!
50 yrs Married this year...Remember my Wife wearing Her Russian Style Hat...Fur lined Coat ...Boots and Gloves as we headed off on our Honeymoon...we're still together but unfortunately She is in a Home now but I still get to see Her each Day...I never Tire hearing that Tune...
I won the music competition at school, playing this on violin. There were two initial rounds (which I won) followed by the final when all bonuses for difficulty etc were removed. This affected all scores but fortunately there was a Senior Prize (the biggest aggregate of points) and I won this by a wide margin. Thank you everyone at Allestree Woodlands School, and in particular Mr. Spencer, Head of music. I miss those days so much.
I was named after Lara, I have been humming this song over my entire lifetime and never knew where it was from or how it got stuck in my head. I’m guessing my mom must have hummed it to me while she was pregnant. Life is crazy.
I saw the film three times in two weeks, when it was at a local cinema, when it was first screened in the UK. First time with my girlfriend, she cried pretty much the whole way through. Then I saw it on my own twice. Only time I ever did that. I must have watched it dozens of times since. Possibly the finest film I ever saw. The acting, the direction, the music and the cinematography have never been beaten in my view.
Yes, super filming, beautiful actors, and wonderful music. Yes, me and My Darling wife had tears. Can we LOOK deeper into characters? Wifey asked me WHY he let his WIFE go away, and had affair, and let HER go away as well?? All for an idiotic love of Siberia and some borscht and potatoes?? He was idiot
I was 13 when I saw this movie. This movie and Lawrence of Arabia made the biggest impact on me. And of course I fell in love with Julie Christie too....
This is the perfect combination of director, actors and music director. Whenever I hear this, I can SEE the little joys of Dr. Zhivago in his twinkling eyes in his serene face; his efforts to have a last glimpse of his beloved; his emotional turmoil.Oh! So heart squeezing! Only Lean could do justice to the novel capturing the psyche of Boris Pasternak.
Forever the film that stirs my heart. Time can never erase this masterpiece of such love. I think it had been recycled in theatres when my mother took me to see this at 8 or 9.
One of my all time favorite films. My mother took me to see it in the theater more than 50 years ago. I fell in love with the story and the beautiful wintery landscapes portrayed. This song has always enchanted me.
My parents got married in 79 and this was one of their favourite films and this theme so familiar to me through my entire childhood. May God Rest their souls, both wonderful people, now no more.
Russia, Revolution, Love, Separation, Longing, the Russian winter, Julie Christie, Balalaika, oh the cocktail of all these ....I have not gotten over Dr Zhivago after watching this masterpiece more than 23 years ago , probably never will.
In fact, everything revolves around Julie Christie, without her, this film does not exist. Heavenly beautiful woman, the most beautiful actress of all time
I love the book, and this movie is a masterpiece! I am Russian and I can say that the essence of the Russian spirit is revealed at its best in this film.
I was about 10 when this movie came out, still young enough to go with my family (back when major studios still made movies whole families could see). Mom later took me back to see the matinee three or four times. Such a great movie, the romance part went mostly over my head although while Julie Christie was absurdly beautiful I remember thinking I would have liked Geraldine Chaplin. Mom died recently at 100. Think of her when I hear this - the beautiful happily married suburban housewife with a dweeby kid and maybe just a tiny crush on Omar Shariff.
