This a wonderfully layered, vibrant and luminous piece of art. The complexity is astounding -- as if written in code that we can nearly grasp, but the truth is just out of understanding. So much motion, movement and emotion. Bravo! Thank you for sharing the creation of this!

This is stunning! I see two robots (one on the left is very gloomy 😯), the one on right is getting on with it and very determined. Then I see a little stick figure in between who wonders who they will be when all grown up - gloomy or determined. However, I may have overthought the whole thing! Awesome painting ❤

This is a tremendous peice of work Dan, it's wonderful. You must have a large studio to store all your work, especially the bigger pieces. I'm quite envious.
@DanTirels
@DanTirels 3 года назад
I wish, I am limited for space and a recent plan to move into a larger studio has been put on hold due to COVID-19. Most artwork is eventually recycled and this canvas will most likely be painted over.

What a fantastic piece of work Dan - this video is a real treat on Xmas eve - thank you. This work is so you - it was a picture in this style that attracted me to your YT Channel in the first place. I absolutely love the finished painting. I was laughing at myself at intervals throughout the process because I was nearly shouting at you not to paint over this bit or that bit but it all comes together wonderfully in the end. Interesting effect using green screen - we could have had you doing this with a t-shirt on and a blizzard going on around you or halfway up an erupting volcano!! Look forward to seeing how that progresses if you use green screen again. On this occasion, I could have listened to the music throughout - so soothing for my jangled nerves. Jesus, this is turning into an Oscar acceptance speech! Thanks so much for all your generosity of time, effort & spirit and your gentle encouragement throughout this difficult and challenging year - you'll never know how much these wonderful videos have helped me mate. I hope you & Buzz have a good Xmas.... Cheers Martin.
@DanTirels

Thanks very much Martin, this is a new development for the demos, I do enjoy working on a larger scale but have always found them difficult to film. The green screen helps as I can change the background to suit the artwork and I will try to do more of these. The music was one of the less annoying examples from RU-vid's audio library and unfortunately it was too short. I have some professional recorded music sent to me by a talented musician and will look forward to using this on a future project. I hope you had a good Christmas and best wishes for 2020, I hope it is a better one for us all.

Great painting! About 1/3 of the way through the video when you turned the canvas upside down I swore I saw a horse and the beginnings of a jockey and when you painted the light blue layer on I cringed because the horse disappeared. However, the outcome is more extraordinary than I could have imagined at that point. Nicely done.

Oh, that was what I needed to see today!!! Beautiful. I liked it best at 33.24. I felt the 'bubbles' were overkill. But the colors and shapes, overall...you know how it feels to be out in the sunshine after days and days of inclement weather? Yessss..... So there's me, sitting in front of the computer monitor, just soaking up the sun! I could actually feel my mood improve while watching that. Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas to you and Buzz! P.S. Those eyelashes @3:03!!!! 👁‍🗨

It's a pleasure watching you work. I saw you spayed something over your charcoal when you were done. What is the name of that spray and it looks like when you paint over the charcoal it doesn't distric from what you have done. I have never worked with charcoal before but after watching you I want to. Thank you so much you inspired me to try something new.

I have so many questions to ask, but firstly, I want to say what a pleasure it is to watch you work. And, I love this piece. Can you tell me what kind of charcoal you use and do you use any kind of medium to dilute the paint or just water? (I always worry about under binding the paint) Do you use ordinary pastel/charcoal fixative on the canvas or is it another kind that you can then paint over? And, finally, what brand of brushes do you use? I end up with brush hairs in my paintings, especially when trying to blend the paint and it's the bane of my life. I wouldn't mind forking out for quality brushes if I knew they'd do the job. Your paint seems to go on so effortlessly that I'm jealous, lol! Thank you, in advance, Julian
@DanTirels
@DanTirels 3 года назад
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed this, I was very pleased with the outcome. The charcoal you see me use is vine charcoal which is available in a variety of grades, it is very soft so I tend to use a lot. Willow charcoal is a bit grittier but is fine for drawing and charcoal pencils are excellent for sketching. I never use an acrylic medium, this is just water, some people do not recommend this but It's fine by me as finished work is always varnished when finished. The fixative is really a cheap hairspray (this works to prevent the charcoal from bleeding into the paint) always finish with a final spray of acrylic varnish. Brushes can cause problems, if you are working on a large scale I can recommend using a good quality decorators brush, I use these all the time, avoid animal based brushes such as sable. This time of year is great for picking up brush sets in the art sales, I bought a box of 40 mixed brushes, all excellent quality. Hope this helps, and good luck with your artwork.
@j4jools292
@j4jools292 3 года назад
@@DanTirels Thank you for all that info. It was really kind of you. I was going to buy some Liquitex brushes, but they are not cheap. I'll take your advice and go for some quality decorators brushes. They will probably be more robust too :)

@DanTirels
@DanTirels 3 года назад
Thank you! Cheers! When the work is finished I would spray with a couple of coats of acrylic varnish but I also use a cheap hairspray to fix the charcoal as I work. This is only a last resort when fixative spray is unavailable and it's an old money saving tip from student days, some hairspray can cause discoloration so be warned about this, I find the cheaper the hairspray the better it is for fixing.

Well in an emergency (all the art shops are closed and too late to order online) A cheap hairspray is a good alternative to a more conventional fixative. A final spray with a good acrylic varnish.
