Saw this back in the 90s on MTV while living in Guatemala, I was 13 years old, now I'm 35, still in Guatemala and still digging this song. 90s hip hop will always rule
Large Pro can be defined as a Top 10 Hip Hop Producer. edit: What sets him so apart from other grand masters like Pete Rock or J Dilla is his extreme positive energy and he is also extremely skilled on the mic. I love this man.
Lol back in 96 when this drop I use to listen to flow and voice tone only but without analysing the lyrics being a big Wu Tang fan I thought this was Inspectah Decks solo joint I was so excited. Then once the video drop. I was like wtf? But the song is mad dope. I definitely did my homework on large pro and main source shortly after. Extra p one of the best producers of all time
This shit went hard body in 96 on the underground scene like true quality I have nothing bad to say about Large Pro this nigga had always put out true hip hop of the highest degree accompanied with his signature beats and original rhyme. Large Pro is like Peter Rock great Producers who can actually rhyme and write their own shit not like P doody I mean P diddy
I remember when I saw this as a jit in the 90s on those music channels that only played the music no video and I thought Large Professor was just a artist before I knew he was a producer. I remember not being able to find it and waiting again until I heard it or seen the video on MTV... The days on 3 16s on a was a great time..
yeah im 20 btw but age doesnt matter all i do is listen to music new, old hip hop rock reggae from portishead to pete rock n from j dilla to the police.... when i was 7 my cousin gave me a waterproof walkman with cypress hill tape in it since then(13 years ago)ive been not just a hip hop head but addicted to music
I can still smell & remember the vibe in 9-6 (helly hansens, Hilfiger cologne, wally boots & dark weed) when I watch this joint...long live boom bap hiphop from the 90's, the best era our music ever produced
"And I'll concoct something ill for real Come into my laboratory where you can't stand still" Remember this from a Stretch tape from like 96 and it had the Marley Marl version of LA LA. Porn Theater Ushers used this in Me and Him (check that out and thank me later)
This song is mainstream? That's surprising to me because the first time I heard of it was on a college radio station. That station was the only station playing this song. I think I remembered seeing the video though, but compared to most mainstream hip-hop videos at the time; it must've received limited play. I only saw the video once.
Curtis Pea It could have been mainstream...if given the proper push. People were anticipating The LP ever since Large Pro went on Tribe's Midnight Marauders album telling them to "buy the album when I drop it". He was getting some burn with this and "IJussWannaChill", leaving people thinking the album was finally gonna drop, and then....NOTHING. See, Silvia Rhone was running Elektra Records at the time, and if you didn't have P-Diddy-level Hit-potential, she wasn't fucking with you. Pete Rock was also going through the same thing, as she stood in the way of his InI project as well. Both albums wouldn't get officially released until early 2000.
