Fresh canals South fl. Winter snook on shiners. Green horn me finally caught a slot fish. What us optimum water temp etc ? Do they hide in deeper holes in canal on cold front days etc?

Congratulations on the slot! I like the water temperature to be at least 70 for snook. However, I have caught snook in as low as 58 degrees. Optimum is when the water temperature warms up 4 days in a row. The temperature doesn’t matter as much as the warm up. But let’s say 74-77 is preferable. Deeper is warmer for sure. Sunny is good. Near any concrete is good. Wind protection is good. All will be warmer. They may not bite, but they will find the warmest water they can for sure in the winter. Tight Lines! Jay.

Thank you for this video. I moved to the Vero Beach area about 8 years ago thinking the fishing would be like the old days where redfish and trout were everywhere, only to find that fish is hard to find here. I do see snook just about everywhere and if I'm going to catch fish, it will have to be the snook I target. I do have a question about the large paddletails or swimbaits; can you make them somewhat weedless? It seems around structure it's almost guaranteed you will snag, especially with such large baits. Thanks again for your video, it sparked life back into me.

Thanks for watching Victor. You should have few problems with snags on the Vero Beach major bridges. Now Sebastian inlet is a whole different story. There are lots of snags there. I am not sure about Ft. Pierce inlet as I haven’t fished it. In Broward county there were lots of snags on the bottom. However, I never tried to go weedless. If you do snag the bottom, 75% of the time you can go up current of the snag and pull from the opposite direction from how you were reeling it in and it should pop loose.

Hey Jay, trying to figure out what rod i need for night time snook fishing. Im in the tampa bay area. Should i go mh, h or xh and what length is best?

Depends. Are you fishing from shore or a boat? What kinds of baits are you using? Flairhawk, Swim baits, Live bait?

@SnookClub only artificial spooltech, z man, flairhawk. I have a vs150 with 30-40lb braid.

Here are a few to look at Star 8’ stellar light SG1530S802 FENWICK INSHORE ROD | MO#: ELIN70M-FS St. Croix Avid ASIS711MHF

@SnookClub thank you! That's exactly what im looking for. Is there any difference between the st.croix avid vs. legend inshore (asis711mhf with itls711mhf)? Other than the price 🤔

@SnookClub would you go St. Croix ITLS 711HMF or ITLS711MHF? The HMF feels more balanced but the MHF is reel heavy. Im more inclined to throw MHF because lure weight is between 1/2 to 2oz. I'm a little torn between 2 models.
