Before you guys go and buy your next jet ski or side by side let’s look at this. How much does a person need to make to service a 1.5 million dollar loan through CMHC with about a 10 percent down. Here is your answer about $350,000. So for all those people that are not the Prime Minister of Canada or a great hedge fund manager this is irrelevant. Most people that are even in the 1 million dollar land are not going through CMHC because the premium to pay the insurance is outrageous. So in conclusion this is absolute nothing. The Canada government has been berated by the banks because the Canadian housing market is imploding. They have to do something. This ain’t going to work. The credit cycle is now in winding and the losses are going to mount. Nice try though.

Most people sell and take the equity and buy or rent. Not many stay for 25-30 years

Don't forget that these are only insured mortgages. There will be a CMHC premium on the 30-year insured mortgage, which makes these mortgages a money pit!
