Lap steels are generally played on your lap, while dobros are commonly played by a player standing up (using a strap to hold the dobro), or on their lap. Both instruments are played with tone bars, however lap steel guitar is usually considered an electric instrument, while dobros have more acoustical properties.

Good song! Never heard it before but if this is their sound, I'll be checking out more of Larkin Poe.

Thank you for reacting to #LarkinPoe !! I also recommend the songs “Blue Ridge Mountains” and “Deep Stays Down.” 😉 And yes, Megan’s playing a 1942 Rickenbacker lap steel. A family member built her a special rig so that she can play it standing up! It’s a heavy sucker though - so Megan worked with an instrument manufacturer to make her own line of lightweight (but still kickass sounding) lap steel guitars to give her back a break!!

It's called a lap steel guitar, kind of in between a regular guitar and a regular steel guitar with the legs that you sit in front of to play. You usually see them played laid on their back in the player's lap hence the name "lap steel"

She now uses a custom built lap steel that's built for standing with a strap.

As we approach the holiday season, there is a band who you should do a few reactions to. They are called Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They are a orchestral metal, hard rocm, and neon-metal band who are best known for their hard rock renditions of famous Christmas songs, but they also have their own songs they've written that contain holiday-themed lyrics. Some of their best music (in the opinion of a longtime fan) is their non-xmas music which I definitely reccomend. They have three non-xmas albums and they are called "Beethoven's Last Night" released in 2000, "Nightcastle" released in 2009, and "Letters From The Labyrinth" released in 2015. If you consider a reaction videk or two but don't know where to start, I reccomend doing a live concert reaction. And a few good songs to consider are: "Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24" (which is their take on Carol Of The Bells) "A Mad Russian's Christmas" "Siberian Sleigh Ride" "Wizards In Winter" "What Is Christmas?" These are just a few suggestions. Another band you guys should react to at some point is a band that has strong connections to TSO and whose music has influenced parts of TSO's sound and catalog. They're called 'Savatage', and they are an 80s/90s hard rock/heavy metal band who are CRIMINALLY underrated. There are lots of good songs by them that I reccomend. A few include: "Miles Away" "Doesn’t Matter Anyway" "Blackjack Guillotine" "Wake Of Magellan" "Taunting Cobras" "Stare Into The Sun" "Handful of Rain" "Chance" "The Rumor" "Edge of Thorns" "Hall Of The Mountain King" "Tonight He Grins Again" "Morphine Child" (this is a prominent example of how they're sound influenced some of TSO's early work). "Morphine Child" appears on what is to date, Savatage's final record, entitled "Poets and Madmen". It's a very symphonc rock aounding album but also has lots of classic Savatage takes on heavy metal. Keep up the good work, y'all!
