I’ll chime in here, as a 60y/o man born and raised in the South who also discovered Larkin Poe a few months ago while surfing’ the ‘Tubes. Here’s what I kept thinkin’: Imagine you come waltzing in to your local laundromat just to pull out your wash loads and toss them in the dryer, and you’re greeted by 2 Blues-loving sisters, Rebecca and Meghan, each playing slide guitar? I’d assume that I’d died and gone to heaven. And I’d sure feel lucky and grateful.
I have been listening to the blues since 1964, saw most of the greats and have attended more festivals than I can count. Larkin Poe is one of the most unique acts I have seen. I love the way they they follow the “less is more” philosophy of the pioneers like Son House, Skip James and Tommy Johnson and make every note count. Keep up the good work!
WoooaaaH !!! ... what's this. What's happening here ??? --- As an old fan of CSN, Band Perry, Blues and Grass and attached to the pre-comments just clicked ... ouh man, all hair immediately turned up ... I'm shocked. Lord in the sky, snotty and with this powerful voice ... that's really hot. Respect, I thought I had heard everything ... this guitar, incredible. As an ancient fossil, I can only say that this is exactly what the world needs. Just don't lose it. That made my day ... feels like jumping into a frozen river filled with bubbling lava under the ice. Awesome. Just keep going !!! I like it very much, I'm going to watch this ... lol! Deep bow and greetings from Germany!
26 year Male here who loves Blues greats like Robert Johnson, Son House and Muddy Waters. So glad to see young people like these talented lasses interested in the same glorious Blues. You've gained a fan.
So you premier a video through Billboard. Kind of a big deal ya know - grammy nominated, Billboard premier - and what do you ladies do with It? You make a video with all the same feel of their homemade videos of the two of you just sitting in a room jamming...never losing that "just here for the music" sort of vibe...that "just some honest tunes for ya'" feel. Don't ever Lose that Larkin Poe ! You make us feel like we are home.
I found you guys about 10 days ago. Another way of saying it is: for 10 days Larkin Poe has dominated the competence hierarchy that is my work/home music playlist. As a hyper competent guitarist: I can say these girls make every note count and are excellent at their craft. As a citizen of America: I can say that these are the role models we need for our young women.
I grew up in Arkansas. Went to Memphis to hear the real blues all the time. My best friend is in the N Y blues hall of fame. These women nailed it, would go to see them anytime anywhere.
I love how you can practically feel the heat of Mississippi in this song. I live in Mississippi and their voice is basically Mississippi heat. It's beautiful and warm but if you're not careful it'll burn you.
Hate to break it to you, but Rebecca does not play the slide on this track - it is her husband, Tyler Bryant. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yq1lMBczHg0.html. Can Rebecca play bottleneck? Yep, she is great at the genre. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eIdg03SuvB0.html She could have done it, but didn't.
The album "Venom & Faith" is a masterpiece. I have been following these girls for over ten years. For May in Barcelona !!! Rebecca, where's the mandolin? Megan, fantastic lap steel.
Rebecca & Megan you two always put a smile on this old man! You two are today's ambassadors for the Blues - don't let us old timers down - stay STRAIGHT and TRUE!!!!! I aint no preachin' man but keep your wits about you and mind your business - I've said this before to ya'll - this world is soooo much better with you two in it - Bless up!!! Old man fan from Cleveland OH
That Grammy will start doing justice to a wonderful journey we're honored to be making with your music, your talent, your passion and your professional attitude towards everything you undertake.
Robert Johnson didn't start nothing, there was the much better LONNIE JOHNSON, GARY DAVIS and countless others before him. Just try BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON...
a huge shout out, to the great bob seger for putting these incredibly talented young ladies on tour with him. been a huge fan of larkin poe, since that seger show in columbus,oh.
Oh my. What a way to wake up in the morning. You two bring this old guy to tears when you look at each other, then put your heads together at the end of the song. The sisterly love just oozes through my computer screen.
This Sisters still to Rock the Music World! Keep keeping the good work ladies. You’re phenomenal. The Blues will keep alive with a musos like that 👍👍 Play the Blues, ever, for ever ... 👍👍😉💙💙🎶🎶🎸🎸🤘🤘🌹🌹
Outstanding, beautiful blues, incredible talent ! Love these ladies , and the fun they have as sisters is wonderful to watch. Been following and purchasing their music for a couple of years.
Discovered these girls a couple days ago consumed all their work within the same day now there's this as an aspiring slide guitarist I want people to understand how hard it is to actually do this they are not sliding around haphazardly they are actually muting all the notes they are not playing otherwise slide oftentimes will sound like dying cats. What they are doing here is absolutely masterful and 4 years into my own playing I can barely mute the excess noise created by the slide. These girls are incredible
Damn, you two find the blues right where they live - in a dam laundromat. And TWO slide guitars, played while seated on those plastic molded laundromat chairs...You two are geniuses ! Thank you, thank you.
I discovered these highly talented musicians at this moment... Before this moment I was not aware that this duo existed!! WoW!!!!! Just Wow!!! I mean, that music, that voice and those glides!! Just wow!!
OMG where to begin? I could feel the heat and humidity! Which is saying something since I live in Michigan and its winter. Artistically, I loved that Rebecca's shoes matched Megan's shirt. Also loved the choice of location (daily toil), and that the background was filled with circles, the dryers and the clock which matched the circle on the resonator guitar. Musically, absolutely wonderful, warm and real. But most of all I loved smile that flashes at 0:29 into the video.... you two are the truly a creative force worthy of the blues. THANK YOU!
@@christiecrawford1653 Megan Lovell (Lap Steel Guitar, is the older of the two) Rebecca is the Baby Sister and they have an Older Sister who was with them as The Lovell Sisters, but left music for college. Talented Family.
SO. RICHLY BLESSED , I AM. , TO BE SITTING HERE ENJOYING SUCH HEARTFELT UPLIFTING GENUINE BLUES , NEVER CAN I HEAR THIS AND SNOOZE !!! EVEN , BUDDIE MY CAT , PERKS UP AND PURRS AT THE SLIDE AND HARMONIES !!! EVERYBODY GOT THE BLUES SOMETIMES !!!
Fantastic track. Best vocals and slide playing anywhere now. Sorry Derek and Warren. These ladies are my favorite band now. Can't get enough of their music. Always want to hear more.
Totally ........in love. Blessed are their voices. They speak for all who suffered before. Never lose that jewel. You are the best thing that has happened to blues in decades. Blessed are their voices.
There isn't much better to listen to today than these young ladies. I keep thinking I'm just going to watch a few seconds and I listen to the vid 3 times in a row.
Absolutely magnificent! Quite a long time ago I thought like Mr. Buddy Guy, that the Blues was going extinct. Of course not! So these stunning young ladies come and turn on the light, shinning on the Blues music. Congrats! I look forward to seeing you in Rio, Brazil.
Love the sisters! There’s a lot of crap out there in the world that is stuffed in a fancy album cover and sold as “music” hat’s off to Larkin Poe for keeping rock, rhythm & the blues alive and well in this day and age. Merry Christmas everyone and I hope the New Year finds us all “alive & kicking”.
My faith in good honest music is restored every time I watch one of your videos. Keep the blues alive girls! Heck I'm gonna do me a load of laundry right now!
Oh glory, Rebecca and Megan what entertainers these girls are. Every performance and video has that Venom and Faith. Steeped in the blues, southern fried and road-tested...!! And I find it hard to believe but I'll wager they haven't even scratched the surface yet...
Such a great southern blues song . Looking amazing ladies love those boots Rebecca , Megan the hair looking good sister. The sounds of those guitars are music to my ears . Cloe ❤️🇨🇦🖤🖤😘😘
So much to unwrap here..LOVE that this was filmed in a Laundromat..just feels right. One of my fav. songs off this LP(which is Excellent btw!), as a Slide lover, this just hits my sweet spots ;) And those instruments used, are loved by me as well. This song has it all. Now for a minor nitpick, you ladies don't need platform shoes..as you're both tall enough, lol, but the rest of the clothing choices are on tap ;) People, you get a chance to see them live..do it! Have been blessed to do so once, and can't wait until I do again!
You folks are the real deal! Your love of the music is very compelling. Your top shelf musicianship is world class. WORLD CLASS! The video is really fun!
Rebecca is actually the talented instrumentalist that was force to sing lead, because her sister Megan wouldn't. Rebecca was a high level mandolin player as teenager. Their older sister Jessica was the frontman in their former band The Lowell sisters.
Amazing musicians, fantastic timing an incredible ability to WORK, almost as one. My favourite female fronted band in a very long time. Rebecca and Meghan, you make this old muso smile.
Love the vibe... and the laundry mat! Yep! I'm in the kitchen now and I a feelin' this! I enjoy the little interlude i the song. It felt just right and then we are back into the foot stomp and hand clap. I can just visualize a stomp dance with this!
