THE 2 greatest. They both started right out of the gate. MVP of the finals as a rookie. To this day, he is the only one that has done that. Sure, he landed on an already great team, but look what he did with it. Bird went to a team that only won 29 games the year before and won 61 games with the same team. He then went on to win the chapmionship the next year. MJ had it easy. he didn't have another goat to compete against and got the superstar treatment. The beginning of the end of physical defense. The rest are all just mercenaries really.

Hell yeah they’re the biggest reason why basketball elevated. I remember for my computer class back in 2011 my sophomore year I had to do a presentation about anything I wanted and I made it about Magic and Bird’s rivalry. Not only was it easy because I love basketball, but that rivalry was the greatest rivalry in sports. What other two people can you say had a rivalry like that competing for all the marbles multiple times; they’re the best.

Magic cried telling the story. Bird called the second he found out and asked "Are you okay?" He probably called before it even had time to sink in, but Magic had wet eyes reminiscing about it. And I'm sure Bird is the same when it comes up.

Man I’m 25 but I watch ALL THE CLASSIC HIGHLIGHTS!! Can’t beat 80s and 90s basketball…. I wish I got to experience it I see full games on RU-vid sometimes I watch but man to be seeing it live would be an amazing experience

Same sentiments except I was a Lakers and Magic fan, and I hated when Larry and the Celtics would put a hurtin’ on the home team. Bird was a beast, but I’ve grown to love and respect our chief rival, especially when I learned of Bird’s trash talking! Legend!

@@cheryljackson5659 ditto, except I didn’t mind Bird so much. You knew he was going to get his. It was Ainge and McHale that drove me crazy when they beat us. Showtime vs blue collar Boston is what sports rivalries are measured by imo.
