this is just amazing. I'm starving for a catechesis grounded in this hope and this sense of Christianicity. It seems so 'obvious' to many that the words given us by the Church are plain to understand. And with convos like this, I have a growing sense that that's not the case. These words have been interpreted in 'non-traditional' ways as the Church entered the west, far from a wisdom tradition, de-racinated in her roots as a mystery cult. Ressourcement is finally the Church returning to her heart and her sources after unavoidable detours.
What I love about you guys is that in this and the other video with Jordan Wood, you say you are going to end. But you are SO into this topic, having such a wonderful connection--that you just keep going on and on. I really enjoyed this very much. I also am glad that you both said you are Christian Universalists in another video.
This is great. I understood this through the English mediaeval mystics - Julian of Norwich in particular - Creation and Incarnation.... Then Gregory of Nyssa... the combination of which might be Maximos the Confessor 😀
I don't normally get into the comments but you seem to be a person of good will. Respectfully (via Cyril) you have completely misread Charles Taylor. He is in favor of Ressourcement and in many places in his interviews credits Henri De Lubac as an influence on his view of faith. And he does *not* think the "immanent frame* can't be broken at all. His whole point is that it can. Creative recovery of the past is his a lot of his schtick
If Jesus’ body is in all churches with believers, I don’t understand why Dr. Wood choose the Catholic traditions? Where does the Bible teach that people desire to choose the good?
The idea that those who have had the beatific vision can’t help but be drawn into it like a magnet is a very eastern religious idea. (Eastern, meaning Yogic, Vedic, Buddhist). This is in fact their starting premise. Let’s teach direct means for the beatific vision, thru poses and meditation.
Luther would have been proud you you two chaps. Hard to believe that two popular Catholic "Theologians" get so much wrong. Then again, Luther was popular and called himself a better Christian than the Catholic Church represents. You are doing the same thing, though using a different set of errors.
Your popes just imbibed the errors of German higher criticism, putting out modernist commentaries and bibles, while making sure they retained their cushy jobs selling their idolatries and bowing to other religions at the same time. Luther beat you guys and you don’t even realize it.
