Prince showed such humility here. Did his part and rolled off. The GOAT let the others shine. He is the greatest of all time. Period. What a gift he was to this world.
Very good observation..prince .never meant to overshadow..or hog the spot light.. remember he would never give an one on one ..wit anyone...not even Byran Gumble!!..class legacy not common today..
man, the guy on the stage invented slap bass. Prince is nobody in comparison to Larry. Prince himself most likely spent his entire childood obssessing over Sly and GCS. It would be like seeing oasis and paul mccartney on the same stage and say that the oasis are the goat. cmon. Prince is amazing but seriously.
Prince came on stage to jam. Jam sessions are just that. No overshadowing, no out shining, just having fun with other good musicians that he likes. He would’ve been up there longer if the guitar strap didn’t come off.
In all humility, Prince had to give it up to the father of funk and slap bass. Larry is the reason for so many generations of musicians, including Prince.

I get goosebumps watching the amazing musicians on this stage. Prince was a class act here and showed much respect for a bass innovator. Larry Graham is awesome.
My sentiments exactly ! Much respect ! Larry the man of funk ! Prince Oh well ! Goes without saying ! Plays 6 or 7 instruments on a professional level . Prince let Larry & the group get into it and walked off like Larry do your thing ‘ thank you for the invite !! Great 👍 stuff !
This was an excellent collaboration. Larry Graham is a badass on that bass and Prince is a King on that guitar. This awesomeness is overwhelming. You can tell that Prince is honored to be playing a classic on the same stage with Mr. Graham. It's written all over his facial expression. Prince was nothing short of humble and amazing!💜 Thanks for sharing this video.
As a lifelong fan of SLY + The FAMILY STONE I am almost moved to tears seeing PRINCE perform on the best song by the group's historic lineup. PRINCE -- undoubtedly stunning the audience -- plays guitar rather than steal the spotlight. Bet he loved the song as a youth. RIP beloved PRINCE of late 20th century popular music.
You’re right. Ethan is saying that Prince is performing here in one of Sly’s best songs of the group’s historic lineup. Prince was a huge fan of Sly and the Family Stone and it was this group that influenced Prince maybe more than any other. I wonder how Larry felt about Prince leaving so soon.
When Prince got on stage, everything got elevated to another level. You can feel it. And I’m here at home watching it on tv. It’s that ⭐️ power, and presence. Yeah Prince 🤴🏻
Daddyman G : you said that right! I see Larry’s wife, Tina, up there with him...playing tambourine, long white dress, dark hair, big earrings. She’s a nice lady. Glad I got to meet Larry & Tina once in DC. Wow, just realized Tina can sing! BTW...Prince is age 52 here...lookin’ good!!
yessir!! Larry inspired me in the mid 70s to pick the bass...for a lil black girl that was an oddity then lol...45 yrs later I'm still odd af😂 Larry Graham king of funk!!
@Potwheelz Aye! G' may be the Godfather, but that doesn't slight Marcus ... G' just paved to road; can't take anythg from either artist, in their own right both are Fabulous!💗
You all have said it all about 'The legend, the musician, the Sanger/not Singer, the mega talent, the one of a kind... PRINCE'... 😘😘I literally Cried, Laughed, Grinned & Screamed, simultaneously when he walked on stage when I saw him in concert!!!🥰 🤗😘🤗😘🤗🥰
Prince was many many things, and multi faceted to say the least. But never make NOOOOO mistake. That brother knew, understood and was the Funk when he chose to.
Let’s. To forget the horn section !Great stuff very tight ! Makes the funk with the rest of the group ! Larry is as funky as you get along with Prince !! And the rest total funk ! Couldn’t of picked a better song to display funk like this ‘ especially when they turn it up a a bit at the end !
As an Artist...Prince did Prince...Prince wasn't Larry. An Artist covers deeper aspects of his/her expertise. But, watch this: Sexy Dancer, Head, Pop Life, Purple Rain, A Love Bizarre, Get Off, Kiss, Controversy, Erotic City, Raspberry Beret, Sign O The Times, Partyman, Bat Dance, Hot Thang. He also did Blues: Purple House (A customized cover of Jimi's Red House). If that doesn't do something for ya funk bone, as Prince would say "Keep bustin' "... Peace...
For me. Prince was without doubt a whirlwind of musical talent. An innovator a natural force of creational brilliance. He had flair grace style panache but the cream on top was of genius wonder. He was a one off . But for all those in the world who have seen his fantastic shows or on screen guest appearances anyone could see he was a wonderful human being. May he always live forever as long as we do not forget his legacy of a wealth of music and on screen appearamces. The like we had never seen before until he appeared withing our vision . May God bless him forever and beyond.
Better late than never... go watch the movie (Purple Rain or Reign?) with Larry... when the sheet music comes out of the walls fluttering all over out of the walls.... thats Prince's genius at work! A picture inside his mind!
The funkiest man on the planet playing the tightest guitar riffs coupled with the legend who invented the slap funk bass style. All it needs is a clean and sober Sly on stage to top it off.
Amazing we were and still are blessed to have Prince and Sly bless us by sharing their gifts of pure talent, my life is so much better with the Prince genius and Sly's funk!!!!!!!
Bill FromUSA Prince played an after show at the New Daisy on Beale Street on the Jam of the Year tour. Rufus Thomas got on stage and did "Walking the Dog" with him. And on the Musicology tour Prince played "Great Balls of Fire" & "Jailhouse Rock". Larry Graham's brother (who is Drake's Dad) lives in Memphis and used to play in Jerry Lee Lewis' band.
Getting to see Prince in 1999 and having GCS open without even knowing they were on the bill will be the high point of live performances of my life. Watching Larry and Prince crush for 3 hours will not be surpassed.
I love music...when I'm into the song, I mean really getting into it, like you can feel every single note...I become the music itself. Don't know if that makes any sense to anyone...it does me. I know, when I'm in THAT moment, and then the next, and the next, there's only one moment that matters and it's now. Brilliant like diamond star my Prince! Lovenlight.
Are you kidding me? And Larry Graham? That guy steals the show wherever he goes... Nobody sounds like him on bass (and there are zillions that tried...)
I love that Prince would attend, people that he loved musically, their events. He never was one to seek out the attention. But, once found out, he would jam with them! I just wish he was around 100 more years!!
Prince was given the chance to perform with Larry back when he started now it's all love that Prince returned that love taking Larry with him on his road of success, rare moments I love it!💜💜💜
THIS IS IT! PRINCE the man who guided me through the pop infested 80's and pointed me towards FUNK! LARRY GRAHAM the man who more or less invented the "slap" bass, like THE FATBACK BAND (Johnny Flippin) he played the bass like it was a bass and snare drum. To see/hear these two giants(for me) together and play are just heaven for a rhythm addict as i am. Remember the fictional war back in the 80's between MICHAEL JACKSON and PRINCE? This my friends are why i sided with PRINCE!!!!!
This made my night! Thanks for the upload. Thank you Larry and Sly and the Family. Thank you beautiful Prince, may your spirit be one in light and peace and love.
👑THANK YOU👏👏👏👏YOU SHOWED US WHAT "MUSIC"🎸REALLY WAS & WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED 2 SOUND LIKE⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🙏REST PEACEFULLY,👑💕KNOW THAT YOU ARE RESPECTED & LOVED, MORE THAN YOU CAN EVEN IMAGINE💕⭐🙏👑🎸✌️😘
Two of the most talented Musicians to ever grace the stage. It would have been something else if Michael could have grace that stage with both of them, it would have been completed. Thank You All For Sharing Your Talent & Music With Us All!! See You Prince & Michael in the New Paradise Earth. May you both R.I.J.M.❤❤❤💯
Lots of talent and experience loaded into this jam! I have to say, I’m grateful that I got to see this on video, and sad that I’ve never seen Prince, and if I did id have definitely wanted him to be with these excellent performers, so much comfort and flow just fluidly worked right into the groove! I’m beyond jazzed!
I am lucky and old enough to have caught Prince in concert for the 1999 album tour. It was 1983 and I can still remember it vividly. Just an incredible, high energy night of some dangerously funky jams.
GREAT GOOGLY-MOOGLY! Larry Graham AND Prince....my, my, my, my!! Where's Sly? HELLO SOMEBODY! I needed this in the era of CoVid19. So glad I found this and thks for posting!
Let’s hope Serena Williams gets off from sitting on the fence and return home She is clearly still very much interested in the right path but is being distracted and giving in to the flesh. Satan is very generous to distract and disorient us More than the others Because we are resilient and awake so he tries harder and gives more and more There’s no middle path just a fence Sitting on the fence, in the middle, doing nothing, inactive; doing no wrong and no right leads to the same broad and open path The narrow path is for those who lead their life in one way only
This video is a rare jewel... 5th time I listen to it non-stop... That bass sound with its trademark growl and distortion, inimitable. Every time I am driving really late at night, whenever I starting to feel sleepy, I put on some Larry Graham... better than 20 cups of coffee.
Unbelievable music. That kind of stuff just isn’t produced anymore. I wish artists these days would be themselves and create their own image & music. I live a mile from Paisley Park, still to this day I cry every time I drive by. Prince is one of a kind, there will never be another Prince.
Yes is 2022 and I’m still commenting on this. Before Prince shows up on stage the rhythm guitar he’s playing in the background is absolutely insane. Those riffs are otherworldly. True 🐐
Wow! Just...WOW! My God this is an amazing, amazingly funky performance. Larry Graham shows why he is my all time favorite bassist. And Prince, well talk about one of the greatest musicians, artists of all time.
awesome....larry graham is the man who invented pop and snap bass..this version of the sly and the family stone classic sounds as great as it did back in the day..,prince really does it justice by sticking to the script and playing it in the pocket just like the original.....p
Being a devout Sly and the Family Stone fanatic since 1969 when the Bass player in our band turned me on to " Funk" I thought I saw Gregg Errico on stage in the dark suit in this video. He has been one of my idols ever since I heard this song the first time in '69.
+MusicLover Pearson I only seen him once at a gig at hop farm uk 20011 but was exactly as you saidthere was a good sound quality of it (full set)on you tube but web sheriff took that version off best wishes to you
Bravo!!! Thanks to the Post'er. Two of my greatest musicians. Never knew this even existed or that they performed together. Flipping around U-Tube while having drinks in the days of the Coronavirus and I find this. DAMN! Must say this is a great Reprieve. Now looking for more of my 70's Superstars-Live. Cheers!!!
