Finally Larry Johnson A.K.A.Grandmama! Damn I miss that whole Charlotte Hornets 90s squad. 1. Muggys Bogues 2. Dell Curry 3. Kendall Gill 4. Larry Johnson 5. Alonzo Mourning That was my squad!
If HIM AND MOURNING could of buried the hatchest which I think always was on MORNING shoulders after FOULING OUT against UNLV in that NCAA and LARRY WAVED BYE AT HIM I don't think MOURNING ever let that go
Larry was always a humble guy. I played on 2 All Star teams with him in HS. I played at a school called Roosevelt. He use to destroy us. Lol...He didn't just kill you scoring. He was a great passer as well. He was a man among boys....You should have seen how thick he was in the 9th grade. Lol He was dunking on folks screaming at them. We wasn't ready for that in the 9th grade. Lol Class Act!!!
He was our very first superstar. He put my hometown of Charlotte on the map. His jersey was the number 1 selling jersey in Charlotte. He's a legend and is still one of Charlotte's most beloved athletes.
I was given the task of guarding LJ in 1984. I was 150 lbs 6'4, he was a New York Knick in the 9th grade! If you've ever seen a Great Dane play with a ragdoll.........yeah, that.
yeaahhhhhhh!!!! this is where y’all separate y’all selves! always bringing the legends on! I love it! so happy all my favorite players growing up getting their shine! social media and the whole youtube movement didn’t exist for them, so i’m happy to know at least someone is trying to bridge the gap for the real ones!!
My favorite player of all time is Magic Johnson, growing up in L.A., but I moved to Vegas in 1985 and UNLV was the only game in town, and when Larry Johnson came to town, he was the second coming of Jesus, that's how big Larry Johnson was and still is, I love Larry Johnson. He looks good.
When I first became an NBA fan in 1991, Larry Johnson was one of my favorite players. His jersey was the first I ever bought (well...my parents bought it for me). I still have it to this day. I cherish that jersey for that reason it was my first.
I had previously commented that LJ would be a great guest on the show because he rarely does interviews these days. This interview is a gem. Loved LJ back when he was a Hornet and his Grandma Ma character.
Great interview with Larry Johnson, the conversation was real and Larry always kept it real. Larry here’s your 💐flowers for putting Charlotte NC on the map, giving us great basketball of all time.
Larry Johnson is one of my favorite players of all time. Always seemed so composed on the court. Till this day I never got past that Duke game. They got robbed by the zebras.
As a native North Carolinian you don't understand how big of a deal the Hornets were back in the 90's. LJ was the truth before his back issues. Hornets had the coldest Starter jacket ever and the purple jerseys they wore in the mid 90's were tough!! 252 all day every day!!!
When they talk about the impact of LJ on them, you can see how Larry is genuinely suprised and happy to know what an influence he had on a generation of people. And it’s true, I’m 31 so I was a kid when he was playing but I still remmeber Grandmama and the gold tooth and the middle part! I wanted to be jacked like LJ when I got older (which I accomplished) lol
L J is My All Time Favorite Athlete Of All & Any Sport. I Love L J, Man. That’s My Dude L J The OG 4 U N L V National Champion Going Undefeated Defending all the way until The Final 4. 1 of The Longest Win Streaks in History LJ , Augmon , Hunt, Anthony , Ackles , Byce , Rice , Scurry , 2 Charlotte Grandmama 👵🏿 2 NYK Mr 4 Point Play
That 2nd Larry Johnson year that team was undefeated going into title game. That charge call against Greg Anthony that fouled him out changed that title game. Bobby Hurley was the defender and he got some love from the ref.
@@andrecarter1590 not knocking on what you said bruh, but clothing don't make the man or woman they make the clothes. Clothing has evolved over the centuries what's considered a dress now was considered to be a tunic back then. There was and is gender neutral clothing and it's always been that way. There's nothing new under the sun. Religion has caused division between men and women and continue to widen the gap. Egyptian men wore makeup which was the ultimate masculine status and cultures did as well again the stuff we see on social media and TV is nothing new. If you're secure in your masculinity then it shouldn't bother you and you can wear whatever. It's the intent that matters at the end of the day.
Prior to injury in the ERA of BARKLEY MALONE KERSEY THORPE ETC JOHNSON had just about taken over the 4 spot because he was more skilled than the other guys
@@isachayden9987 man whenever we want to talk HOOPS i am here for it with anyone. We can about how THEY HAVE WATERED DOWN THE H.O.F Talk about an ATHLETE who plays basketball vs a BASKETBALL player who happens to be ATHLETIC as people are confused on the 2 things. I like talking the game with people who dont think a MIXTAPE is the stamp on being a real hooper lol
Salute to Q & D Miles for always speaking positive about players. If a guy was a dog in HS or NCAA that's what it is. They don't call them busts or down play what they accomplished
I agree, they got one up on All The Smoke if u ask me, a little more respect shown from these guys, not just what they say about players but by their attitude and excitement about interviewing the players
I just showed my son who was born the summer of 91 highlights of LJ. I told him I use to still up to watch unlv play cause of him. I’m lived & still live in dc so I was up late late to watch.
UNLV vs. Arkansas 1991 the hype for that game was so intense, you could feel the energy through the T.V. I still go back and watch that game, and I'm able to tap into my feelings at the time. Then the shaft against Duke in the Final Four. Watch that game also. 🤦♂️
LJ is one of the greatest PFs I've seen. If not for injuries he'd be a hall of famer. Star of the greatest college bball team of all time. Fab 5 was great, but the runnin rebels kicked things off.
Where the hell have I been? Not knowing that Darius Miles And Quentin Richardson got a podcast together? Man listen, LJ was one of my favorite players since his UNLV days. Being a Knicks fan, it hurt to give up Anthony Mason but "YO YOU HEARD WE GOT LJ??!!" was what every Knicks fan around NYC said or heard that day. He was so rock solid for the Knicks man, he never complained when his role changed and his stats dropped from over 20ppg to 14-15ppg. And we could always count on Larry stepping up his game in the playoffs. He'd average his 14-15 points during the regular season but in the playoffs he'd drop 22-23 ppg. Especially in '98 when we lost Pat for part of the playoffs. Happy to see that he's in good health and good spirits and enjoying the fruits of his hard work in retirement. God bless him and God bless you guys as well.
L.J is a true legend!!! Dominated in high school and at UNLV!!!! Made a lasting impact in the League!! We'll never forget what u did in Charlotte and NYC!!! Peace and love from Chicago!
Damn. My favorite player. I threw up the L walking across the stage at my graduation lol couple homies stood up and threw it back at me. Childhood fave
This was the first time that I watched or knew about this podcast. I am sooo happy it was with LJ! He was my favorite player in the league. Tough guy with smile. Thank you fellas! #Hornets #2 #Grandmama
